My Neutral light doesn't come on and as such I cannot let my bike idle while on the kickstand. This is even IF it is in neutral. Where do I look first?

Sorry for posting here, but new to the site and trying to figure it out. I just bought an 06 Venture that needs a new kickstand. I was trying to post it in the Classified section but couldn't figure out how to post a new ad. I couldn't find a little button that said something like "post new thread" or anything. Any help for a noob would be great...and if anyone reading this has a kickstand in good condition they are trying to get rid of, please contact me! Thanks

Hey guys, the kickstand icon on the dash of my 86VR stays on, even when I lift the kickstand,is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

Has anyone developed a parking brake for a 2nd gen. Now that I have a sidecar, I can't use my kickstand anymore.

I've noticed oil on the tip of my kickstand. Anyone else had this? I just figure it is from some breather tube that comes out there. Anything I should be concerned with?

Got back in town after 7 straight days of 14 - 15 hour days, mostly sitting in a vehicle. Couldn't wait to get on the bike to run errands. Went to my P.O.Box and there was my CarbTune...woohooo:cool10: Then I paid for the new diaphragms that I won for the 87 on Ebay. So those were the ups...riding, Carbutune and diaphragms... Now the "Down" was that when I pulled into the parking lot of one of my stops, I put the kickstand down and leaned over the bike. The problem was that when I lifted my foot up after putting down the kickstand, my foot caught the kickstand on the way up. That left the beast tilting to the left without the kickstand.... nap time. The next "Up" was that I got to try the backwards lifting technique I have seen on the video. Grabbed the handle bars and the rear side handle and lifted that puppy right up. The Down and Up happened in less than 15 seconds ! Now...back to reports and work....

I keep my bike in a WheelDock wheel chock when it is in the garage. On Friday night I was cleaning the bike and absent-mindedly put the kickstand up. On saturday I was getting ready to roll it out and remembered it had a full tank of gas, so I went to put some seafoam in. I ended up spilling it on the gas tank and was worried about what it would do to the paint. So I ended up cleaning that up, breaking my routine because I started to get into a rush. I backed it out of the garage and was startled when it kept going when I tried to put it on the kickstand. What a shock. It is tough to get back up, it surprised me when it happened and I had trouble thinking strait. Any way, I did get it up, but remember to check the kickstand.

I need a little help! My bike won't start. I just finished working on my turn signals (the cancellation unit connection was loose and dirty) started her up and was getting ready for a little drive with the working turn signals, but first stopped by work to get something (about 2 minutes away). Went in and came back out and would not start. The power comes on and accessories and but there is nothing at all when I hit the starter...nothing. I have tried the following.... Checked kill switch (many times) Trying with kickstand up and down... clutch in and out...etc. Jumped the kickstand shutoff switch check fuses What other things should I check? It is sitting in a parking lot, so easy stuff first is best. Is there an easy way to check the starter switch? Is there a way to bypass the switch to get the bike started so I can get it home to the garage? Any advice is welcome

OK..someone did this for me 2 years ago, but I forgot who it was. So I am looking for someone else that can do it. Someone with the expertise, know how and TIME to do it. Obviously, I am willing to pay (paypal) for both the service and the knowledge here. Measuring from the bolt on point (but where the solid part of the kickstand starts), the NORMAL OEM kickstand is 12" to the beginning of the foot of the kickstand. My current "modified" kickstand is 11.5". I am wanting my kickstand to be 11.0" now. There is still not enough "LEAN" to the bike...especially on uneven surfaces. Whoever did my current modified stand, did a great job. Wally

Has anyone had to adjust the length of their kickstand due to lowering their bike. Mine is going in tonight to be lowered 1 inch and I was wondering if I would have to shorten the ks to make sure the correct lean angle was maintained. Sure would hate to lay this thing over.

it's true.. i wore out the kickstand.... 07 RSV w/103k miles. it hangs down and scrapes on anything other than a very moderate left turn.. annoys heck outa the navigator............. dealership says the bushing in there is a maintenance item. ok - i can go along with that.. $9.56 for a new bushing. however - the metal on th ekickstand itself has worn so that - when stowed - it still hangs down an inch or so... New kickstand - $241 (ouch) anyway - be advised -- CHECK your bushing and replace as needed...

Here's an odd one. Bike is on the side stand. Turn the radio on, works fine. When I take the weight off the kickstand, while leaving it down, the radio cuts out. Put the bike back on the kickstand, radio works fine. I have put washers under the blue connecters thinking maybe that was it but that did not help. If I try the radio while riding it cuts in and out.

My kickstand switch is intermittent and has killed the engine going down the highway. Any experts out there with an easy fix?

Just lowered my 06 Venture front forks 1.5 inches had already installed the Barons lowering kit on the rear. Now the bike is finally level and handles like a Harley Ultra without the engine heat. I ride alot on the BlueRidge Parkway and use the scenic parking lots to park which are not level ground by no means. Does anyone know of another Yamaha kickstand only shorter that can bolt on an 06 Venture. Please don't recommend the Baron shorty stands--- they don't have the ground foot like Yamaha.

kickstand removal question
nc jack posted a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
i'm the new owner of a 1996 royal star (xvz13a). the previous owner had somehow snapped off the prong used to lower the kickstand. i've read the posts about welding the kickstand, but i've purchased a new kickstand from a salvage yard and would prefer to replace the kickstand. here's my problem: i can't remove the bolt holding the kickstand because it screws out against the alternator cover and won't come all the way out. is there a way to remove this bolt without removing the alternator cover? thanks for any advice.- 1 reply

I just picked up my venture not too long ago and am still in the process of getting my motorcycle license and have been doing some work on the bike since I got it. Got a couple of problems that I can't figure out though. The gas guage only works when the bike is near completely full or near empty but nowhere in between, anybody have any ideas why? Also the light on the computer always says the kickstand is down even when it isn't. If I actually put the kickstand down while it is in gear it will run horrible so it is obviously getting the signal so I don't know why the light doesn't go off. The guy that had it before me said they changed the actual sensor that is attached to the kickstand so I don't think it is that but I can't be sure. Once again, if anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I am new and you have made me feel very welcome and I greatly appreciate it, the tech articles have helped me alot so far, and it feels good to be part of such a tight knit group. Thanks again Brian

Will a 99 kickstand switch fit my 85?? I'm tired of playing with the one I have it just don't want to get better and there is one on Flea-Bay I could grab cheap.. I know I'm asking for trouble putting 2nd Gen parts on it. Probally slow it down quite a bit!!!

Ran into this fella on a white Royal Star..pulling this large trailer. He said his name is George and he lives in Miami Tx. I told him about this website...maybe he can join us sometime. Interesting addition, that might not be very easily seen in this picture...he added a kickstand to the RIGHT side of the bike...he said it came in handy pulling the trailer, on certain angles and parking positions. Hmmmm.... You can easliy see that his bike is leaning the opposite way they normally do when parked, as mine shows on the left side of the picture.

I have a rather strange question for the forum... has anyone every relocated their kickstand to the right hand side? The reason I ask is because I recently had an accident resulting in a broken ankle and a dislocated knee cap. It happened while I was trying to kick my leg over my saddle because I had a T-bag on my pillion and i couldn't swing my leg as usual. Anyhow, I am in for a long recovery (this year's riding season is done ) So I thought about relocating my kickstand so I could mount my bike from the right and not stress my weakened left leg. I can't see any good reason why I couldn't do this. The only real reason most bikes lean left is because most bikes had their pipes on the right (not an issue with the RSV). It might give me some issues when i'm parking in a group of bikes, but that's a minor thing. The hardest part of this I can see is modding or making a new swivel for the kickstand. I might be able to just flip it over - but I'd have to cut off and re-weld the tab that sticks out for you to operate it. And of course, I'd have to weld a reinforcing plate on that side and re-route the switch wiring. Any advice?

I thought I remembered someone saying that when they needed a shorter kickstand, they were able to use a kickstand off of a Tour Deluxe or other model of Star motorycle... I searched and cannot find the thread. Does anyone know that if you can an alternative kickstand as opposed to shortening the OEM stand? Thanks, Wally
