  1. Friends are wanting to take a bike trip from Northwestern Oklahoma to about Mammoth Cave park in Kentucky in Late October this year. Sounds like a good time to us, should be nice colors in the trees and one last chance for a trip before the cold weather really sets in. We don't get that direction much and wondered if anyone had any advice to what the Kentucky weather typically is around the last of October. Also wondered if Local folks in that area had advice on things we should see / experience while in the area. Thanks much, Creole
  2. I have just took on the quest to get the crossbow recognized here in Kentucky. I feel as if we need to include the crossbow in our archery deer season. If anyone can help with this issue, I would be very grateful. Especially members from Kentucky. So far in Kentucky we can only use the crossbow for a very short period of the archery season, unless you are disabled. I think the crossbow should be considered for full inclusion of the archery season. The crossbow uses an arrow with fletching and a broadhead, just as the vertical bow. A bolt was the term used in history when there was a steel or wooden shaft used with out any vanes or fletching. The crossbow is so much fun to shoot and allows those that do not have the time to dedicate to verticle bow hunting the time to hunt. Yes the crossbow can be used with out so much of the dedicated time that it takes to shoot a deer with the verticle bow and still show respect for the animal. I did not say easier, for if anything a crossbow is harder to hunt with when compared to a vertical bow because I can usually get a second shot off with my vertical bow. I would have to be very lucky to get a second shot with the crossbow. It is slower to load and louder at the shot. I have bowhunted with vertical bows for the past 30 years. I own two Mathews MQ-1s. I have hunted with the a crossbow once or twice in in the last 10 years. I recently purchased a Horton Summit and then sold it and bought my self a Parker Cyclone Express crosbow. I have been bitten by the crossbow bug. I really love this new way of hunting with an arrow. It is so much fun. I have been doing some research and reading a lot. Seventeen states allow crossbows for all archery deer hunters; Kentucky only allows them for a short part of the archery deer season and for those with disabilities. Crossbow use has increasingly been allowed across the nation. In the last two years, eight states, including traditional whitetail hunting states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Texas, have changed regulations to allow crossbows during the archery deer seasons. Crossbows not only help recruit young hunters but help retain older hunters, too. As our hunter population continues to age, the crossbow will continue to play a vital role in our deer program, both in our rural and urban areas. The state of Ohio has full inclusion of the crossbow during deer archery seasons since 1976. Now 45% to 50% of the state's archery hunters use crossbows. The state's deer population hasn't suffered and is at or near an all-time record. I would like to know what the Kentucky hunting members think of this proposal I am making. I have been invited to join in on a pro crossbow Kentucky Afield Radio talk show here in Kentucky. I will be promoting not only the crossbow, but all hunting methods here in our state. I respect those whom hunt with every available means, and would not want to give any anti hunting groups an opportunity to say we disagree or are separated in our goals to keep our rights to hunt. I would like to see the crossbow become full inclusive in our state of Kentucky. James Darrell Fultz Home > 606-286-2078 Cell > 606-356-7797
  3. My wife and I are headed out to Virginia from the Orlando area in a few weeks. We're hoping to see parts of Virginia, West Virgina, Penn and Kentucky before stopping in Atlanta to see the kids and grandkids. Anyone have any info on things to see along the way?
  4. Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri........ Missed the whoopla up at Don's but had a great ride with our son's and their wives/girlfriends. Man, is it hot in Kentucky!!! 110 degree heat index the whole time and had to dodge storms everyday. God was good to us....we all made it home safe!
  5. Heading to Kentucky this summer with the boys. Just want to make sure I understand the helmet law down there.....Looks like no helmet required for anyone over 21 ....unless.....you've had your license less than a year. Am I understanding that right? (Our oldest son just got his license last week)
  6. It's time for me to plan our annual road trip. Our oldest son has picked Kentucky. We will be leaving from Iowa, going interstate through Illinois, Indiana, then starting in Louisville, KY and riding the state for a week. We like to ride on quiet roads rather than 4 lanes. We've never been there so I'm asking for help on roads that are really scenic rides. Also, if there is any places that are "must see's". We will be moteling it, instead of camping this time. We tend to stay in small towns (pop 250-2,000)and stay away from large city's. It's always fun to check in to a local motel and walk to the nearest pub/diner, so if anyone has any suggestions I would sure appreciate it. Thanks for any input... Deb & Gary

  11. I mentioned a couple or so months ago that the company had changed my area around. I had lost my part of New York and they gave me Indiana instead. Then about two weeks ago, they told me that they were hiring a new guy in the Chicago area and since Indiana had once been part of that area, they were going to give it back to him. Soooo.....I canceled all my Indiana trips and decided to concentrate on Pennsylvania in March. So upon returning from PA today, I had an email telling me that they had decided to give Indiana back to me and that PA would be going back to the guy that covers Eastern PA. So....now I'm back to Indiana. That's not enough though, they also decided to take West Virginia away from me so no more West Virginia trips for me either. THEN....they gave me all of Michigan except for the Upper Peninsula. I also covered Kentucky as far west as Somerset, I now have the entire state of Kentucky. So.....I'm so confused now that I no longer know where to go. Hey...with all the news lately about folks losing jobs...I am very thankful that they are just shifting my territory around.
  12. I met up with LeadWolf, 93 Venture, and FreezyRider's group at Madison, Indiana. The gang gathers. http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/005--large-msg-122029125744.jpg I parked next to another Venture. This bike didn't belong to FreezyRiders group. We never saw the owner. http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/001--large-msg-122029120632.jpg Check out the exhaust pipes on this bike! Almost looks like a set of glasspacks.... http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/002--large-msg-122029122339.jpg http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/003--large-msg-12202912413.jpg Joe took us South into Kentucky with some great twisties and nice scenery. I've never seen tobacco plants before! Had to ask what they were! We also ran into an IronMan Triathlon. We had to ride slow to allow the bicyclists to proceed. I was stuck riding next to a young female hottie riding her bike in a blue swimsuit. Geez, that was tough! Deb, don't forget to send me the pictures! Stopped to have lunch at the Old Talbott Tavern in Bardstown. http://www.talbotts.com/ http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/017--large-msg-122029135272.jpg Gratuitous shot of my bike.. http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/015--large-msg-122029133492.jpg http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/006--large-msg-12202912722.jpg The interior was rough cut beams and stone walls. Very nice! http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/013--large-msg-122029130427.jpg Hey Kevin! http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/012--large-msg-122029131985.jpg Group shot taken by our waitress "bug". She even left a present in Joe's salad! http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/021--large-msg-122029136925.jpg I had to peal off after lunch. One of my employees was hurt in a fall so I had to go check on him. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the pictures. The bunch were heading to the Makers Mark distillery when I left! Oh yea, watch out for an unmarked black Mustang in Louisville Kentucky. Don't ask me how I know.
  13. OK folks...what is it with these strange Kentucky laws. I went to dinner earlier tonight. Was in the mood for a good steak and a cold beer. Guess what...Kentucky law does not allow them to sell beer until the polls have closed. It reminded me, I was in Kentucky on election day 4 years ago and didn't remember that until I tried again tonight. PLEASE remind me in 4 years to NOT be in Kentucky on election day. I don't drink much and certainly don't drink every day...usually not even every week. But when I am in the mood for a beer, I really want a beer.
  14. We're headed to Southern IN on Saturday with 93 Venture and his wife. We'll be staying in Corydon Saturday and Sunday night. Looking forward to riding some good roads in that area and into Kentucky. Anyone in the area wanting to ride Saturday late afternoon or Sunday let us know.
  15. Saw a couple of RSVs in Kentucky today. Anybody heading north on route 8, River Road, close to Mayport early this afternoon on a silver RSV? Saw the next one heading north on route 27 in Stanford around 4 or 5 PM. A charcoal/gray one.
  16. Say an 05 Liquid Silver pulling a trailor going through downtown Columbia on Highway 378 around Noon. Saw an 06 Black Cherry with a Harley and maybe a Honda riding together with Kentucky tags going east on I-20 aroun 1:00 pm . Looks like all headed torward Myrtle Beach.
  17. I was driving through Clay City, KY today on my way to visit a customer when I saw a black 2002 Midnight RSV parked at a store. I stopped and "stalked" the owner. Very nice gentleman and he is supposed to come by and visit us here at VentureRider. So...if you see a new member join up from Kentucky, give him a big welcome.
  18. Saturday morning around 0530 thru northern Ky into Cincinnati. I was following a RSV with Kentucky plates, anyone here???
