This may be obvious to all, but be very careful riding throug a puddle if the water is murky enough that you can't see the bottom! Last weekend we were riding back from the Fl. Keys with 2 other bikes through a monsoon-like rainstorm. We pulled into a gas station in, I think it was Long Key, for a fuel stop and I heard an engine behind me rev up really high...my wife yelled out from behind me "Karen just went down, go see if she's okay!". I carefully parked our 06 Midnight Venture and turned around to see Karen, her husband and a bystander lifting Karen's RSTD up off it's left side. Turns out Karen had ridden into a large puddle filled with water so murky she couldn't see how deep it was. Unbeknownst to her the puddle was over a foot deep and had a VERTICAL 12 inch dropoff. As soon as her front wheel went over the edge there wasn't anything she could do-of course her feet wouldn't reach the ground at that point- so she went over. Fortunately she wasn't badly hurt. Her right wrist was banged up, but after putting a brace on it she was able to complete the remaining 375 miles or so back home. And the engine and saddlebag guards must have done their job because the bike wasn't scratched. But obviously it could have been much worse. Like I said, it seems obvious, and we've probably all done it and never had a problem. But if you can't see the bottom of a muddy puddle...go around if at all possible! Oh and the gas station mgmt was totally unsympathetic. Couldn't even be bothered to go look at the puddle, much less put a cone in front of it. We watched several cars plunge both front wheels into the abyss before we left. Definitely a serious accident waiting to happen! Ride Safe! 1/2crazedbikr

June 11 weekend. Karen and I would like to host the WI MD this year at our house in Fox Lake. We have plenty of room for camping, 2 car garage with a bar, good neighbors (some may even stop by), and motels available in Beaver Dam and Waupun. The VR calendar is filling up fast, so I want to get the ball rolling. Happening on June 11, and the invitation would be good for Friday afternoon through Sunday. We can fix everything that broke on the way back from Freebird's MD the week before. Is this OK with everyone, and is anyone interested? Later, Scooter Bob and Karen Here's a link to the event in the calendar.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=240&day=2011-6-11&c=1

I hooked up an intercom on my bike so Karen and I can talk. It also has a a place to plug into a radio. I have tried a small radio and an I-phone, and I can hear them just fine, but Karen can't hear the radio at all. What would I need to do to make it where she can hear it? I bought it from Sierra electronics. I think it's IMC brand.

We hooked up with Scooter Bob and Karen today for a great ride... We hit some stops on the summer long ABATE 4 county poker run.... We had a great lunch at "Uncle Johnny's" in Colgate... Shari and Karen got some great prizes from the men's room at one of our stops.. So we got a little wet when we rode into the storm........ Time spent with great friends,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"Priceless"

Yippee!!! I got my new bike home late last night. I need to know how to post pics so that I can show everyone the new bike, and because there are two small issues with the light covers and I need to find some. I can't wait to ride it, and in fact Karen and I are going to Toronto tonight to see the Depeche Mode concert, so if the weather holds up we'll take the Venture instead of both riding our other bikes singlely. Karen says that although she prefers to ride her 800 Volusia, she'll have fun being on the back of the Venture occasionally with me. She says that she wants to try riding it herself in fact. A buddy of mine just traded his '06 Tour Deluxe in on an '09 Venture. Today was the first time we've ridden together since he got it. He wanted my wife and me to try it out, so we swapped bikes for a few miles. I loved it! For some reason it feels lighter than my RSTD. It handles great, and I love the seat and having a radio. I didn't really want to give it back. Karen liked it too. She said she could see over my head on it, and didn't have to hang her head out to the side to look forward. This is a picture of him and his wife. I told him about this site, but he's not much for computers.

Thanks to the slow manufacturing sector, they won't let us go to work tomorrow (damn the luck). Can't see any good reason not to put on a couple hundred miles. We're in Fox Lake; between Madison and Fond du lac. Looking for any suggestions for a lunch stop anywhere in the middle of the state. We're kind of new to the site, but I think what we might be after is an impromptu M&E. We'll watch the site for a while tonight and log on for sure at 9 am tomorrow to discuss any options/takers. Hope to see you riding tomorrow, Scooter Bob and Karen
