Our Daughter and Grandson and I are visiting our other daughter and granddaughter in Kansas City, Mo. It has been very dry and no real rain in months. There was a storm last night and it is still raining this morning. Thank goodness. It is a little too late I am afraid for the farmers. I hope the air quality improves too. We will be heading home on Saturday. On the way here, I saw a lot of bikes on trailers heading to you know where on I-70. Yama Mama:smile5:

Just got back from a cross-country trip of just under 5000 miles. Salt Lake City to Kansas City, to Columbus,OH, then down to Raleigh area. Met up with my nephew and went over and did about 1000 miles in and around the Dragon including Tennessee, northern Georgia and North Carolina. The Dragon was awesome, ran it 4 times. Ended up having to replace my back tire while there after only 10,000 miles, unfortunately the only tire they had was a Pirelli. Longest day was 906 miles with 105 degree temps across Wyoming & Kansas. Can't say enough about how beautiful the Appalachian Mountains were, totally different than the Rockies were I live.

I had the pleasure of going to Don's maint day in Ohio last year. It was quite spectacular. Seems like most of the maint days are quite far away from KC. Wanted to guage the interest level of having a main day in Kansas City. I am a novice with limited tools and even less skill. I have a 2 car garage and no where to camp (live in a neighborhood). Pretty sure my neighbors would be fine with us parking our motorcycles all over for a day. Wanted to see what the interest level would be in a one day or 2 day if you would like maint day in KC. Look forward to your thoughts.

Just returned from an 8 day ride to and through Colorado with 4 of my buddies....what a wonderful trip! On the way back to Indiana, one of the guys who rides a Stratoliner experienced a problem with his front tire and needed a new one. We were in Junction City, Kansas when the problem surface and a quick search turned up Brooks Yamaha in Manhattan Kansas as the closest Yamaha dealer. It was very late on Friday evening, so we booked a motel room for the night. Rode over to Brooks early on Saturday in order to be there when they opened at 9 a.m. When John told the parts dept what he needed, he said he didn't know if they could change the tire for him as there is only one mechanic on duty on Saturday. However, when they found out we were travelling and needed to get back on the road they worked him in quickly. It ended up that we were there for 2 hours start to finish....and they didn't "stick it to him" because he was without options. Their price was very fair for the tire and for their services. Get this....their labor charge was only $22, and that included R&R the wheel as well as mounting and balancing the tire. While the work was being done, the staff was very friendly....treated us like friends and neighbors....talked bikes and riding. When I compare this dealership to the one I experienced in Clarksville, Tennessee several weeks back, I am amazed at the difference. What a great place to do business. If you are in the area of Brooks Yamaha, pay them a visit. They seem to be a very good place to do business.

My little sister and her family stopped by our place on their trip from Sterling, Kansas to Chicago, Il and spent then night. This morning the temp was about 40 with light drizzle and her two oldest children - a senior and freshman in high school both said, "Uncle Mark, will you give us a ride on your motorcycle?" Being the good uncle I am - I got the bike out and took them for a ride. Their dad said, "This certainly will be the highlight of their trip." It was worth it to see the smile on their faces. Now I need to plan a trip to Kansas this summer when I can take them on a good long ride!!

I took it for about a 300 mile trip over the weekend. The trip out was 2-lane 65mph with short stops/traffic lights in small towns every 10-15 miles, return trip 100% interstate, set the cruise doing about 82mph indicated. Very comfortable and enjoyable ride. Got 34mpg for the trip, seems kind of low to me compared to my old ride (an ST1100 that I could get 45+mpg with 2 up, fully loaded side bags), but nowhere near as comfortabel of a ride. I had posted an earlier thread about vibration at roll-on and while the engine is smoother at higher revs, it still feel it feels mostly like there is a "miss" or "roughness" there, just at a higher RPM so not quite as noticeable. Seems to have plenty of power so am doubting that it is actually missing, but even at 80MPH indicated, you still get some vibration when pulling power or load in OD. The PO said he had synced the carbs but I probably will want to double check that. I probably should have driven another one or two before I finalized the deal on this one just to make sure I understood the characteristics of the motor and to make sure it is acting like it should. I poured some seafoam in it this evening and when it stops raining in a couple of days I'll ride her a bit. I will also start looking around on it a bit, check the spark plugs (which the PO said he changed as well), etc. Before I get in too deep on looking at it I suppose I should get someone's thought as to whether or not there really is a problem or just the nature of the beast and I shouldn't be concerned. If anyone is in the Kansas City area has one of these engines and would have a few minutes this coming weekend to take a look/listen and see if it is the just the normal operating characteristics and I need not be concerned, I would sure appreciate it. Assuming the weather is reasonable, I could probably meet someone just about anywhere in the Kansas City-Lawrence area. Thanks guys.

Just a short note here to let everyone know that all the world's serious problems have now been solved. Spent a very enjoyable evening, even though Kansas Tornado did show up (lost as usual), visiting with Don, Juggler, Tigress and the Kansas Tornado. Great dinner, some libation and a lot of refreshing conversation (even though they did spend considerable time bad mouthing my political choices ). Juggler was trying to set up a WiFi connection (way beyoind my limited technical skills), and I think he did take a few photos. Struck out again in trying to get the server to swap T'shirts with me . After 22 years, still can't figure out what it is with the waitresses here in Minnisoda.
