I was looking on e-bay the other night and ran across K&N's for a RSTD. The numbers were different than the RSV and like $30 bucks less. I thought basicly they were the same bike except the fairing-gas tank-speedo deal. Looking @ K&N site they show the YA 1399 for both the TD and Venture. Maybe they had the years mixed up or something? Does anyone else make a filter for the RSV thats worth running? Unipro anyone run them?

Has anyone heard of putting a few extra holes in the inside surface (3ea ¾ dia.) of the air filter housing along with a K&N? Sounds plausible as these engines like to breathe and that's what the V-Boost is all about on the VMAX.

Hi I have read several posts about the K&N air filters. I am assuming the only advantage to going to a K&N type filter is that it is reusable and thus in the long run cheaper than replacing the stock filter over the life of the bike. Is there any other advantage? Besides all the hubris and claims, does the K&N actually have an impact on HP all by itself? I find that quite hard to believe so if anyone has any actual hard, factual information they would like to share I would be happy to hear it. Thanks in advance Chris

I need to replace my air filter and am looking for advice. I find I can get a K&N filter for less than the OEM filter, or an Emgo replacement for less than that. Any bad experience from using K&N as far as flowing too much air for the stock set up? Any bad experience with the emgo? Thanks for any advice.

I pulled my K&N filters off tonight after realizing they hadn't been pulled to be cleaned in say (cough cough) 20 or 30,000 miles.. ouch.. But looking at them.. I'm wondering if it was just the right time or premature or waaaay too late, hard to tell.. As the air comes into the box, it seems only the immediate area in front of the inlet hole is dirty while the rest of the filter looks pristine.. SO clean it's still fresh pink with oil.. SO weird. It might not show well in the photo but just that small area has dirt on it (albeit a lot) but the rest of the filter is looking darn new.. How often do you clean YOUR K&N? Cheers

I am thinking about changing out some key components of my bike. The first area will be the air filters. I want to go with separate filters for each carb. After some research I have come up with a K&N part number of RU-2989. Is this the correct PN for the four separate filters? Of course the next question will be what jets to use to keep the A/F ratio correct? Followed by replacing the resonator/collector with the Mark's Pipe component and free flowing mufflers. Thoughts welcome.

Where is a good place to buy OEM filters for a 09 venture, I do not want a K&N filter but doing a web search on OEM isn't working out so well... Thanks

The K&N filter that came with the '91 when I first bought it had a very soggy oil soaked foam seal. The filter cleaned up well, but the seal was toast so I put the it on the shelf. While talking to Rocket I mentioned the bad seal and he told me that K&N would warantee it. Their filters do have a lifetime warantee. So I sent them an Email offering to buy one since I wasn't the original purchaser. They replied and sent me a new seal free of charge. They even picked up the shipping. They now have a lifetime customer...

I'm contemplating buying a set of K&N Air filters for my 08 RSV. Do the filters come "pre-charged", or do I have to buy a charging kit prior to first use? Thanks in advance!

have heard the more air for breather help with engine performance? drill hole in breather? go to K&N (costly) appreciate any info thanx doc

So is it worth going to the K&N Filters on my 03 RSV? Pro's & Con's if any!

Are K&N filters really worth the $100 cost? Do you gain any performance or gas mileage?. I know they are lifetime filters. I haven't priced the stock ones yet. I am running a Dyna 3000 ingnition module and Kromeworks Mufflers. My (2006) bike really runs good with this setup. I have almost 12,000 miles on it.

Here's a decent article on K&N Filters. I use them in my bike. Can't really say that I ever noticed any increase in power though. I would still buy them again though because it does save on replacement filter costs. http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/k-n-air-filter/

1st ride with K&N air filters.
Joopster55 posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Had the first ride of the year yesterday with the new K&N air filters. Made a big difference in performance. Instant reaction from the motor as soon as you turn the throttle. Went for a ride around the block, turned out to be a 4 hour ride, 200 kms. later. The reaction from the bike was soooo sweet, I left quite a few HD's behind me. When I got home, my wife could not slap the smile off my face. Had no problems with the new high output stater as well. I think it will be a trouble free riding season. Will be picking up my new trailer May 1. It's going to be a nice week too. -
I recently purchased a K&N filter for a sport bike I own. I have a Suzuki Katana 750. After buying it I had numerous guys in the sportbike field tell me that I should NEVER put a K&N on a bike that has carbs. Yet I have them on my Venture and have never had any issues. How much truth is there in this?

I looked all over the place but did not see this answer...so if it is a repeat...I appoligize. I have been torn over whether to install the chrome Air Filter covers on the RSV...I see on this site where some has had problems with chrome pealing off and the cost is a big issue. Yamaha says will warranty all accessory parts for 1 year, gee I figure something that small that cost close to $300 for the set just for looks ought to have more warranty than that. I really like the look...but so far I have not got up the courage to make that purchase. But they look so good... I know it is coming in the future and I found the K&N Air Filters at a steal of $74 for the pair so I jumped on them. Best I could find else where was around $101. I understand you need the K&N filtes for the new chrome covers. Not sure why at this point. Now I have a set of K&N Air filters and no chrome air filter covers. I was wondering...can you use the K&N filters with the stock air filter covers? I know I put a K&N stock replacement air filter in my VW Jetta TDI diesel and gained about 2 MPG, that pushed me up over 50 MPG mark, so it has gotta help if I can use the on the RSV. Thanks, Mike

I found two different looking K&N YA1399 filters for the 2nd. Gen RSV’s, what is the difference, besides the price? http://www.dollarrider.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=86&manufacturer_ID=143&product_ID=8034&model_ID=42 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-07-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-1300-K-N-Air-Filter_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ35597QQihZ010QQitemZ200235861443QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

Well, unless I am doing something terribly wrong in my calculations, I think I am getting about 8% better fuel economy since I installed my K and N air filters 3 weeks ago. Here is what I found happening. I run a garmin zumo 550, which has a fuel gauge, that strictly clocks mileage. You input how many KM per tank you get, and when you get to 30 miles (48 KM)left of that amount, it gives you a warning, and then shows you the closest 5 gas stations. Pretty neat eh? Anyways, I digress. Normally, I have the KM per tank set at 280. So normally, this is the order of events. Around 210 km, my fuel warning light on the BIKE blinks, and goes to fuel reserve count up, 20 km later, I have to switch to reserve, and just about that time, my zumo tells me that I am on reserve. But about 3 tanks ago, I noticed something strange, and thought it was just a fluke. The first indication I get about low fuel, came from my zumo, which is usually last. about 10 k later, my fuel light blinked on the bike. This has been the case for the last 3 tanks. From the numbers both on the GPS and the trip meters on the bike, I seem to be getting about 25 km more approx per tank, or per fill up. Now, there have been no major changes in driving, either style or substance. Have any others here found these kinds of gains? If so, I wish I had known, I would have changed my filters much earlier. No other mods have been done recently, except a chrome brake pedal, chrome oil reserve cover, and chrome billet oil cap. (Do you think chrome gives you better fuel mileage? Hmmmm....) Anyways, also for anyone thinking of changing to K & N filters, I highly reccommend it. I have had K&N in all my cars so far, and saves you tons of $$, mostly from the high cost of replacing paper filters, but now apparently from increased fuel mileage, and let's face it, with the price of gas now, every little bit helps. Oh, and for those who may have never changed their air filters before, let me give you a little bit of advice. Make sure if you are going to K&N that you read all of the instruction, IN THE K&N box. Or, you can do what I did, read below... 1) Remove the lower cowling 2) Unbolt the air boxes (both sides) 3) Disconnect the breather tube, and carb hose 4) Remove 5 screws holding both sides of the air box together (both sides) 5) Remove 2 screws from air filter 6) Remove air filter (both sides) 7) Replace air filter (both sides) 8) Replace 2 screws holding air filter to air box 9) Replace 5 screws holding air box together 10) Bolt Airboxes back on bike 11) Re-attach the air intake hose, and carb hose 12) Replace the lower cowling 13) Put relatively new air filters back in K&N box 14) Discover warning sheet stressing importance of installing the 2 rubber gaskets that came with the K&N filters to seal the filters to the air boxes. 15) Find gaskets still in K&N box start again at 1 So there ya go, sometimes reading all the instructions is the way to go!!

HI everyone, I'm about to put Bub 4-2 exhausts(full system, not slip ons) on my '06 RSTD. Has anyone done this? Did you have to rejet? If so, where did you get your jet kit? I can't find jet kits for this bike anywhere. I have already put K&N filters on it. Any help would be great.
