Hi Guys, I'm in the process of upgrading to LED bulbs on one of 86 Venture Royals. I have already converted the headlight and it sure makes a difference. I have read several articles and forum posts of guys who have already done this and there have been several references made to "Jumper the CMU for headlight, running, and brake lights" so the dash warning indicator isn't constantly lit due to the CMU thinking there is a bulb burnt out caused by the greatly reduce electrical draw from the more efficient LED bulbs. Although there is very detailed info about converting to LED's, I have not been able to find details of what the steps are to perform this "Jumper on the CMU". Any experts out there who have already performed this "jumper" process on the CMU that could point me in the right direction of which solder points I need to jumper for Headlight and Brake lights? Thanks in advance!

well the fan is wired directly to ground. don't know why. but is there a way to test the system to find out why is there a relay and sensor in system if there is where should i look for them. read a thread that said to jumper sensor to make fan run. just don't know where to find it. trying to fix a bunch of problems so i can ride this parts bike.

Finally took the plunge, and ordered a HID kit. While I had the front of the bike open, I decided to jumper the reed switches, for future considerations. I've seen all of the posts concerning the jumpers, but not on an 85 CMU. My question is this: Do I jumper all 4 of the reed switches, or only certain ones?? Thanks!! Bill W.

Was wondering if anyone has run into this before. I just resurrected a pristine 1984 venture 20k original miles, the bike was a mess when I got it but she's alive and kickin. I rebuilt carbs, heavily varnished. Synched ran but poorly alot of popping and poor power so I pulled the TCU and it was shot full of corrosion and water, I also noticed a homemade jumper wire going from the 3 to 4 coil, I cut but left in place, then went and bought a used TCU and it ran alot better but still not right. I then reconnected wire and it runs like a champ.. Any thoughts, I'm afraid its overdriving the drivers in the TCU, is the TCU bad, is the coils bad, is the pickups bad?. Anyone done this and why. Thanks Mike

In the process of putting on new fairings and adding some lights. I had old running lights on a switch and something else on a switch, but never could figure out what was on the second switch. They were hooked to the positive with a separate wire. I pulled the wires out. I left the key on and killed the battery. I added the rear lights and tied into the rear light. I added lights on my front fender and tied into my front turn signals. I then took some jumper cables and jumped my bike. Lights on the back look good. Lights on the front looked good and then began to flicker in unison. Connection seems solid. Now the real problem. I pull the jumper cable and the bike stops immediately. Jumps automatically and stops automatically What have I done? Really appreciate your help

I had the "dim low beam" issue which most of you say is likely the CM or maybe the switch. The shop "fixed" this by putting a jumper in the system. If I read the wiring diagram in the service manual correct, the jumper is connected to the headlight wires (G/R and Y/G) and taps into the headlight switch on the switch side (Y and G) The indicator light, which was partially on before is now off, but the CM warning light is on. I haven't fully disected the connector, but it appears they did not disconnect and re-route, but merely added a secondary pathway. I'm not sure why this would cause a fault on the CM as I didn't have one before. Since I've got everything apart I'm planning on pulling the CM and re-soldering it and then pull the jumper. Hopefully that will get rid of the flashing warning.

While riding through Yellowstone Park and heading into West after "doing the Bear Tooth"my head light went out. I pulled everything apart at a gas station and could not find a problem anywhere. Ended up driving 90 miles with my driving lights. The next day my mechanic beat his head against the wall looking for the gremlin. I made a jumper with alligator clips to at least have a low beam functional. Then I found the problem ,a sticky starter switch, it was not coming fully back out which cut out the headlight. (duh) A little W-D 40 on the switch and the light came back on . The jumper is tucked away inside the fairing just in case. Thought I might share this one, it's awful dark out there...
