  1. Here is a short video that I ran across on youtube that gives just a little taste of my favorite ride. This video shows only one of the three pigtail bridges. [ame=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3718826354166885858&q=black+hills+iron+mountain+road&total=12&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0]Iron Mountain Road[/ame] The last time that I rode it, I tried to count the curves to see how it compared to the Tail of the Dragon, I lost count at around 250 and was only about 2/3 of the way through the road. I think the road is about 18 miles long.

    Iron Butt

I did my Iron Butt Ride yesterday. Left here in Mississauga and went west to Sarnia.West to Flint MI. North to Sault Ontario. East to Sudbury, east to North Bay.Then south back to Mississauga. Not a great time of 21 Hours as I had many social stops.I met some interesting people along the way including a school mate I had not seen in 38 years. I will post pics later. It was a great day and a great adventure. Ray:322:
  3. Hey Gals and guys, I will try to get Iron Butt ride to Don's Maintanance Day. All options are open, here's rout I was planning, but once again nothing is carved in the stone. Iron Butt Route Does anybody want to join me ?? First 6 Beers are on me at Don's ( after ride )
  4. Doing a search on the forum for "Soldering" provided a lot of very good tutorials, tips and links to articles on how to solder...and how to fix the E4 error, which my 88 is experiencing All the tutorials speak of a soldering IRON. I remember my Dad had one, a big clunky beast about 10" long with a shaft about 1/2" diameter. I'm sure they come smaller but what I'm wondering is there any reason why I can't use a soldering GUN? Is there a quality issue here or some other reason everybody refers to an "Iron" and never a "GUN"? Are they one and the same as far as soldering is concerned? Am I over complicating things or is there something here I don't understand? Also, a lot of emphasis is placed on having CLEAN connectors to solder. If you have a solder joint that is bad (you can see the ring around the post) how are you supposed to clean it well enough to solder? The corrosion is probably inside the solder dome!
  5. For those not familiar with the above title, the magazine is the official publication of the Iron Butt Association. Many times riders, particularly those on Long Distance rides, need to stop and rest. This may be for a whole night, a few hours or even just a 30 minute nap. While hotels and motels are favorite, there are times when that option is not necessarily the preferred one and people take all sorts of opportunities to grab a few winks. I am collecting stories and anecdotes and, in particular, high res. pics, of bikers, their bikes and any unusual situations they have slept in. Hence the comments in the other thread re: Hammocks. If you have a story you wish to share, and if you have any decent pics of a "resting" moment that you wouldn't mind being published, could you please share them in the thread below. Thanks.
  6. It slipped my mind earlier, but there may be some here who are interested in this: http://www.therally.us/wafflehouse.htm All the rules are right there on the site. Really all you need is a bike, a passion for Waffles and an appetite. The event is all year and can be combined with other Iron Butt type rides for the adventurous. The Rally Master is a friend of mine, but that is my only connection. I participate in other Rallies he organises, but not this one.
  7. Why should we pay $$ for Iron Butt , We can give recognition on this site, we should have our own ..
  8. Ya that's right...I met up with Charlie and Evan at Evans cottage the other day for a fish fry. I was amazed at Charlie's cooking as it was the best fish I have ever eaten. He has my vote as Ontario's Northern Iron Chef. These are 2 great guy's and the weather for eating dinner outside at the lake was perfect; but Charlie's fish stories...now that's something else.
  9. These are the Instructions provided by the manufacture. How to iron a patch. Lay a piece of thin cotton cloth onto a patch. Turn your iron on 175 C /cotton/ and press /don't move the iron-just press/ during 15-20 sec. Big patches please start pressing form the center to the edges of a patch. After this please press once again edges of a patch - about 5 sec. Please use only good quality iron-we advise you against using poor Chinese irons, because they don't keep a property temperature. Please pay attention to all plastic elements in a nearby of a patch-hot iron may damage them!!! First washing of the pressed patch can take place after 48 hrs-max. washing temperature - 90 C. This iron-on patch can be iron onto cotton, all synthetic clothes, leather and some synthetic leather.
  10. It all began with an iPhone... March was when my son celebrated his 15th birthday, and I got him an iPhone. He just loved it. Who wouldn't? http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae239/expat97883/OneTimers/onetimers18/iGift/1.jpg I celebrated my birthday in August, and my wife made me very happy when she bought me an iPad. http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae239/expat97883/OneTimers/onetimers18/iGift/2.jpg My other son's birthday was also in August so I got him an iPod Touch. http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae239/expat97883/OneTimers/onetimers18/iGift/3.jpg My wife celebrated her birthday in September so I got her an iRon. http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae239/expat97883/OneTimers/onetimers18/iGift/4.jpg It was at this moment that the fight started...... What my wife failed to recognize is that the iRon can be integrated into the home network with the iWash, iCook and iClean. This inevitably activates the iNag reminder service. I should be out of the hospital by Monday but Doc says I'll have permanent scars and always walk with a limp!

    GOLF

Golf is harder than baseball. In golf, you have to play your foul balls. Eight Iron Off the seventh tee, Joe sliced his shot deep into a wooded ravine. He took his eight iron and clambered down the embankment in search of his lost ball. After many long minutes of hacking at the underbrush, he spotted something glistening in the leaves. As he drew nearer, he discovered that it was an eight iron in the hands of a skeleton! Joe immediately called out to his friend, "Jack, I've got trouble down here!" "What's the matter?" Jack asked from the edge of the ravine. "Bring me my wedge," Joe shouted. "You can't get out of here with an eight iron. The schoolteacher was taking her first golfing lesson. "Is the word spelled p-u-t or p-u-t-t?'' she asked the instructor. "P-u-t-t is correct,'' he replied. "Put means to place a thing where you want it. Putt means merely a vain attempt to do the same thing." = The owner of a golf course was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help. He called her into his office and said, 'You graduated from the University of Tennessee and I need some help. If I were to give you $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?' She replied: "Everything but my ear rings!" = Fore! My five-year-old nephew wanted to caddy for my brother's golf game. "You have to count my strokes," my brother told him. "How much is six plus nine plus eight?" "Five," answered the nephew. "Okay," my brother said, "let's go." Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle, followed by a good bottle of beer. Golf! You hit down to make the ball go up. You swing left and the ball goes right. The lowest score wins. And on top of that, the winner buys the drinks. If you find you do not mind playing golf in the rain, the snow, even during a hurricane, here's a valuable tip: your life is in trouble. Golfers who try to make everything perfect before taking the shot rarely make a perfect shot. The term 'mulligan' is really a contraction of the phrase 'maul it again.' A 'gimme' can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers ... neither of whom can putt very well. An interesting thing about golf is that no matter how badly you play; it is always possible to get worse. Golf's a hard game to figure. One day you'll go out and slice it and shank it, hit into all the traps and miss every green. The next day you go out and for no reason at all you really stink. If your best shots are the practice swing and the 'gimme putt', you might wish to reconsider this game. Golf is the only sport where the most feared opponent is you. Golf is like marriage: If you take yourself too seriously it won't work, and both are expensive. The best wood in most amateurs' bags is the pencil. = Scratch Golfer Two women were put together as partners in the club tournament and met on the putting green for the first time. After introductions, the first golfer asked, "What's your handicap?" "Oh, I'm a scratch golfer," the other replied. "Really!" exclaimed the first woman suitably impressed that she was paired up with her. "Yes, I write down all my good scores and scratch out the bad ones!"
  12. Well at least Iron Butt-ish. Last week on my way to visit sis in Washington, I had my first over 1k day. Brush Co to Thompson Falls Montana. The Tom Tom said it was 1050 miles. Great day and the Venture ran great. Second part of the trip took me over Hwy 20 through Washington. It was amazing, even by Colorado standards, this was a great ride. Great roads, fantastic views and plenty of our favorite signs. (not Free Beer, our other favorite signs) George
  13. Well we did the Iron Butt in Newnan Ga, Saturday, got to meet Ted but missed him the next morning at the start, We did not get to the starting point until 0530. Guess he had went on. Well anyway it was a wet ride, through the mountains in NC we got soaked. Had some electrical problem with My RSV, starter silenoid. but got through the ride. Made it back the start point about 0300 Sunday morning. Yep took us 21 hours, but we stopped and ate in Nashville TN. The weather cleared just as we went through knoxville and was Good from there back to Newnan. I told the guys that put it on " I think I have a candy a-- instead of a Iron butt" The pillow top is ok, but it sucks after about 600 miles. Gregg
  14. Iron peace they show a HD being loaded but in the same peace in the sister mag. Metric Iron , wait for it ! :whistling:they show my bike being loaded , a 1st gen ! i was going to wait for the mag to come out buuut i could not wait that long to brag about it
  15. Is any one going to the Iron butt ride, starting in Newnan Ga on Sept 26, 09 at 0600. Me and my brother and a friend are going to ride. Will be my first official Iron butt. I've done over 800 miles in day but never a complete 1000 that I remember. Here is a link to info on an Iron Butt ride this month. http://www.mctourer.com/rides/2009/SS1K/Newnan.html Gregg
  16. Pete Behm (Stillwater MN), fellow Venture owner is currently sitting in 17th after 8 days of the 2009 Iron Butt Rally. Onward to Spokane! Good luck Pete.
  17. Just a heads up for anyone riding around Columbus, Ohio at anytime. Yamaha of Columbus is now located in the same building as Iron Pony Motorsports in the north end of town. They are just north of 161 on Westerville Road just about 15 or 20 minutes from where I live. I stopped by Sunday while I was out riding and Iron Pony is adding new stuff all the time and the East end of the building is now the Yamaha dealer and their shop. Yamaha of Columbus has had several locations in the past few years. My hope is that under new ownership, they will stay put for awhile. As usual I have no connections whatsoever with either of these places. I just like to pass on info when i think my Venturerider family would like it. www.ironpony.com www.yamahaofcolumbus.com
  18. Hello All, Need a little help here. Looking at a piece of Iron rider luggage. The over night bag. Problem I think is I have a 07 midnight with the chrome rack on the trunk. Will strapping the bag to the rack spider the paint? Or would it be better to strap it down under the truck? Any help would be great. :confused24:
  19. So.. I have heard a lot of talk about the Dragon's Tail as a road that is fun for the twisties but I've never been on it. I was on two roads last week that certainly had some twisties and I am curious if anyone has ridden them as well as the Dragon's Tail and so could give some comparisons. I went to the Black Hills and first rode the Needle's Hwy down to Custer St Prk then road the Iron Mt Rd back up to Mt Rushmore. Iron Mt. Road had 15, 10 and 5 mph marked corners. It had an immediate 270 degree turn after exiting from a tunnel. It had the narrow winding slightly elevated blacktop split with each opposing lane having its own road then return together after a quarter mile. How does the Dragons Tail compare? Iowa Guy
