The day before Thanksgiving, while preparing to set up a large turkey frying pot, Johnny, a friend from work, sustained 2nd to 3rd degree burns over most of his upper torso and head. He was life flighted to UF Shands burn unit in Gainsville FL for treatment. I talked to him by phone several times, all the while I still couldnt picture the agony he was in. They did a skin graft and so far its doing well. He made it home a few days ago and I went over to see him. It all hit me hard. While his face sustained some pretty severe burns it wasnt as bad as I had imagined. The rest of his upper body was wrapped up pretty good. He described the experience to me and it all came home pretty hard. Hes a pretty easy going guy and quite gregarious at times so to see him in such pain really had an effect. He says the scrubbing down is the worst. He served in Iraq at least twice that I remember and he said this is 100 times worse. He has developed a bad fear of fire now. We did manage a laugh when he said that if he was ever back in Iraq and caught and they brought him by a fire he would give everybody up!! Even laughing hurt him. But he still has some of his good humor with him. Just say a prayer or have a good thought for him as he recovers.

Want to say THANK YOU to all PGR everywhere. Had a funeral for SSG Timothy David who did 6 Tours 2-Afghanistan & 4 Iraq. I never knew him personally but when I heard of 6 Tours I got into my US Army Reserve Uniform and rode Bike 2 hours to Beaverton, MI. After paying my respects and honor I shook the hands of every PGR Member I could find and thanked them for being there nearly 100 of them. Some PGR members were very well aged and some in wheel chairs and walkers with oxygen bottles and they held Flags lining the sidewalks (THEY ARE GREAT AMERICANS and I told them so). IT WAS AWSOME !!! My first Tour was Afghanistan in 2003 and Jan 2010 all expense paid trip to Iraq (have to check up on Muffin-Man). As a Soldier myself and now a Biker and soon to be PGR member I can tell you that PGR makes a Military Funeral 1,000% Better. Charlie US Army, Captain.

Well Dudes and Dudettes, I thought you might like an update on what happened to that flag I won at last year's Venture meet in Ft. Collins. Those who were there may remember that I got a bit choked up due to the fact that my nephew had recently finished his 3rd tour in Iraq and had been seriously wounded. He's okay bodily, though a bit troubled mentally. But he's okay and we're in fairly constant contact. Anyway, it was my stated intention to give the flag to him when we see each other this year. However, fate intervened and that is not going to happen. See, what had happened was... The town I live in is trying to raise funds for a veteran's memorial. We're half way there and a month ago I was placed in charge of a fundraiser. In the interim, one of our town's sons was slain in Iraq. Though many from Sauk Village have served, up until now, no one had been slain. A few have died from illnesses caused by agent orange, but all came home alive. Until now. So, I donated the flag to be raffled off for the memorial. Now comes the part where the fates intervene: We had invited the family of PFC Pemley to come to the fundraiser and, of course, we didn't charge them. However, they bought some raffle tickets and don't you know, they won and had their choice of some very nice prizes. They opted for the flag. It's home now where it can do what it does best -- offering consolation to a surviving family. I thought you all might like to know. The line of succession includes the VentureRiders and the family knows it.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida !!! Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB ! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts But Wait There's more! JOHN GLENN (on the Senate floor - January 26, 2004) Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a living. http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.12&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.13&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military. S enator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn): "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?" Senator Glenn (D-Ohio): "I served 23 years in the United StatesMarine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank." "I ask you to go with me .. . as I went the other day... to a veteran's hospital and look at those men ... with their mangled bodies . in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job. http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.14&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.15&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? What about you?"For those who don't remember During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA . http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.16&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 Now he's a Senator! If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran . It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating. I AM!!! Sorry I couldn't get the pictures to paste. This isn't meant as a political statement, this is a comparison of those who give orders, and those that do the job. Remember, Sunday Nov. 11 is Veterans Day. Please try to thank one. To all the vets out there, THANK YOU. trucker6pak (Joe Besanceney) Sgt.,U.S. Army 2 Nov '83- 22 Jan '92
