I took a 2001 Honda Valkyrie Interstate out for a ride this afternoon and was very impressed with the ride and the sheer power of the scoot.WOW, this blows my 85 outta the water! It was too quiet as i had trouble hearing it running at times but it seemed to fit me well and felt a lot lighter at low speeds than my 85 G1. I managed to talk him down to a lower price and he has to discuss it with his family and get it cleared off his loans to be free for sale. I should find out in the next day or so if the bike is going to be mine. Brian

A friend of mine is putting his baby up for sale and its a 2001 Valkyrie Interstate in a gorgeous red and all the safety chrome. I am disappointed that Honda didnt put Cruise on these machines, but Audiovox makes a universal unit that will work that I can install if I buy the scoot. Do any of you knowlegable experts know if these units have any gotchas that I should be looking for? This Interstate has about 35k miles on it and has been garaged and has new tires on it, with no scratches or marks anywhere. My total price will be 9000 bucks. Brian

First let me say that I just renewed my membership for another year! This is an awesome place to stay for a while. Matter of fact every morning before work I see what's new. Wednesday the local Victory dealer had their demo days and I went down to try them out over lunch. Nice day and as busy as I have been at work; I needed a break. I know I will get blasted but since I first laid eyes on the Victory Vision; I wanted that bike. I have heard them all from it's Fugly to George Jetson and of course it's not a Harley. I will also tell you being an Iowa boy and these being assembled in Iowa is a good thing. Can't wait for Indian's to be built here as well. Test ride was 16 mile course of city, highway and interstate riding. What I liked about the bike: 1) Well balanced-Was easy to ride in the parking lot to the highway and intestate. 2) Adjustable Windshield-AWESOME where ever you wanted. 3) Comfortable-Seat was good. Able to stretch out with the floorboards. Wife did not ride with me but bike felt roomy 4) Highway and interstate riding-Bike was really smooth and made for touring. Dislikes 1) Vibration especially in town. I know V4 to V twin. 2) Transmission-Every where I read the tranny was improved A buddy that owes one agreed that it was. Still alot of grinding and clunking noises to me. 3) Engine-Slow response and sluggish. I did have the bike up to 90 on the interstate but seemed sluggish. Same buddy agreed with me compared to his 09. My 06 RSV I crank the throttle and off we go. Did not get that with the Vision. 4) Wind buffeting-Got caught behind a semi and I will tell you that it got real wobbly to the point I slowed down and got back in line. Was riding with a group and we got seperated and was trying to catch up. At that time I was doing 70 mph. Was able to catch up to the group a few minutes later when I got it up to 90. Biggest disappointment was the engine and transmission. I would tell Victory to keep working and I will stay with my RSV for a LONG TIME!

After 1500 miles on my new to me 99 Interstate, I have to say I love this bike. I thought the foot position would be a problem, but it has been surprising comfortable. It does have a mustang seat, great padding, but very little wiggle room, so I will be looking for a ultimate soon. The power on the bike is great, gas mileage was about 32, 29 when flying, but the power of the engine is awesome, great torque, no vibes, and stable at any speed! Not that I would have sped by any means... This bike is just short of perfect for me. New seat, highway pegs, and electric cruise control will just about finish it off. It has all the chrome save for the trunk rack, so that will be next along with a trailer hitch and trailer. It does need a carb sync, tires are new, and the bike had 8500 miles when I picked her up. She will also need new speakers in the near future. All in all, I would rate it a 8.5 out of 10. Thanks again Squid for the assistance in getting it.

Maybe it's just me, but my RSV runs sooooo much better after it's been cranked up to 70 - 80 mph for a little while. I ran the 230 miles up and back to Chattanooga today, and this bike just loves the high speeds on the interstate, and just felt like it had so much smooth power at the top end of 5th gear. I was already cruising at 75 when I needed to do a fast pass of an 18-wheeler, and when I hit the throttle, man it just flew in response. I really don't like interstate travel and don't do it much, so this feeling of power and acceleration isn't something I get to experience a lot. Is what I'm feeling at that speed related to ideal engine compression? I wish it performed that way at all speeds in all gears. What a rush!

We have another one trying for the title here. We had one a year or so ago running 142 mph on West Dodge, our main run through the city, (in dress clothes) because he was late to work. This guy beat his speed on I-680 which runs through Omaha and in the middle of the day. We have had two riders die in the last week killed in single bike accidents on the Interstate in the city from losing control. I always look forward to being on the road with these folks. I got a kick out the the way the article states that he had been "lodged" at the DC jail. They left a light on for him. OMAHA, Neb. -- The Nebraska State Patrol said it has arrested a man who was riding a motorcycle 88 miles above the posted speed limit. Around 1 p.m. Thursday, authorities said, troopers were conducting traffic patrol near Interstate 680 and Maple Street when 27-year-old David Oien rode by going 148 mph. With the help of the patrol's aviation division, authorities found Oien had stopped near I-680 and Irvington Road. Troopers said he was taken into custody without incident. Officials said Oien was arrested and lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under suspension, no registration and speeding.

I'm trying to figure out how to fix my ongoing turbulence issues. It really is only a problem on the interstate about about 70mph plus. I have put on the largest Clearview Shield they make (without the curved top), their lowers, Buddy's deflectors, and it still was pretty bad on the interstate. It is like getting hammered on the helmet going down the road. 15 minutes of this and I have a headache. At 60, it is all just fine, but sometimes we just would rather be traveling on the interstate so we can get somewhere faster. Going across South Dakota is one of those types of places. Anyway, I decided to try to fix this. I have seen on this forum people taking a seat belt cushion and sewing in magnets and sticking along side the tank. I does seem like the turbulence is a result of air coming around the tank. I was hoping for something more permanent and something that doesn't look as bad. So, I took an old pair of Nomad lowers that I had put on my wife's Nomad a few years ago and with cable ties and duct tape, put them on the Royal Star. Out for a ride and it seems quite a bit better. I went in as many directions on a very windy (diagonal winds, 22mph with gusts to 30mph) and I think this might work. So, the next thing is to build my own lowers that would like these, but don't hit the windshield or the lower fairing when the forks are turned. Here is a picture of my prototype: http://data.netconx.net/tom/prototypelowers.jpg I'm hoping that anyone who has done this type of thing before can chime in and let me know the do's and don'ts or any other suggestions as I attempt to do this. Thanks. I haven't posted a picture here before, so I'm not sure how this will turn out. If it is bad, let me know. Tom

I just saw an ICM on Ebay and was wondering if there is a difference in the ICM of these two bikes. The reason I ask is the Honda Valkyries the ICM is different between the Interstate and the Standard or Tourer. The Interstate has a little bit more spark advance in the mid range RPM which give a bit more power in that area. I put a Interstates ICM on my Tourer and it is quite a noticeable improvement. No more flat spot. Much more linear power-band. Just Curious. Still trying to learn everything I can about this bike. Tom

I left last week for a 2 week ride but had to cut it short due to an injury. I left Tenn today and drove 8 hours all the way on interstate. I made the turn off the interstate to the road that was four miles away to my home. I went to downshift to slow down at the ramp and couldn't find the shift lever. I looked over the side and it was hanging over on its side. I pulled over and sure enough the bolt had come out and was gone. I was only a few miles from a Yamaha dealership so I was able to hold it on with my boot and shift as needed to this shop where it was easily fixed. Moral of the story. Check this bolt. Something I've never bothered to look at.

I hadn't seen Yammer on here lately and thought maybe he was scootin' through PA when I saw this in the York Daily Record: State Police do not keep speed records. But if they did, the motorcyclist clocked at 147 miles per hour last night on Interstate 81 in Silver Spring Township would likely rank high on the list, police said. Was that you Dan?

LITTLE SIOUX, Iowa -- Four people died in a crash Monday evening on Interstate 29 near Little Sioux, Iowa. KETV NewsWatch 7's Adrian Whitsett reported seeing three bodies covered with sheets amid the wreckage of several motorcycles and a pick-up truck. A fourth victim died after being transported to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the driver of a red pick-up truck headed north crossed the center line and hit the motorcycles, which were headed south. The accident took place in a construction zone where northbound and southbound traffic run next to each other. Iowa Department of Public Safety spokesperson Courtney Greene told KETV NewsWatch 7 three of the victims were from Iowa, the fourth was from Nebraska. No identities were released Monday evening. The driver of the pick-up was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. As of 8:10 p.m, Interstate 29 remained closed. Northbound I-29 traffic was being diverted at Little Sioux, Iowa. Southbound traffic was sent off the interstate at Blencoe. Ya just never know what's going to happen anymore. Damn shame. I've seen cagers trying to pass traffic in these types of work areas. Mike

But where are yall able to run 85 mph, around here if you break 80 on the interstate a set of blue lights come on behind you. They are really getting strict in south ga north Fla. We went to Panama City Beach last week and it seemed that every few miles LEA had someone pulled over. I been driving close to the speed limit myself, never over 75 on the interstate. In the 20 miles of interstate on the way to work today I saw five traffic stops. Guess revenue is falling short. Gregg

For those who have thrown a leg over a Honda Valkyrie Interstate how would you compare it to the RSV. I've seen a few go pretty cheap on ebay.

My battery is getting close on 5 years old so I figure for what its worth I should replace it. I haven't checked the price of the one from Yamaha but its listed in the U.S. for $115 so that will be $200 in my part of the world. I work at a Honda dealership and our car batteries are Interstate and so are a lot of other Imports...they just label them for what ever make. So I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tried using a Interstate M/C Battery? Any Comments ? Thanks Keith

OK..New toy and the whine isn't as bad as the video makes it sound. Check the Snohomish County Sheriff (car and motorcycle) after I leave the Interstate. I waved at them and they waved back. So... I got to Jonesing for a new bike. I was looking hard at the new Triumph Rocket III Touring. Test rode it for about 30 miles yesterday. I loved the power, the way it handled, and sooooo smooth. However, there's a LOT of hot air coming off the radiator and headers. In winter it would be great...summer would be a killer. Then I rode the Triumph Thunderbird....new 1600cc parallel twin. It was Surprisingly strong...would give the Rocket Tourer (not the classic) a good run. But it felt too small and light for Interstate riding. Plus it got real buzzy at highway speeds even with the 6th gear. So...this morning I went and rode a new 1700 Kaw Nomad. I have owned a 2000 Nad and loved it. The one I rode today ran pretty well, rode and handled nicely, but had an awful gear whine, which was a deal breaker for me. My RSTD whines but not like that. Anyway, I brought the RSTD home and will probably put 2 new tires on it and ride it a while longer until something else like a really nice Valk Interstate comes along.

Well this is getting interesting. Last year we had a rider tagged at 155 MPH on a Honda out on West Dodge. Yesterday we broke his record. The name has been changed to protect the moron. At 188 MPH, Motorcyclist Can't Elude Police "Idiot Delight" Arrested In Omaha KETV.com August 6, 2009 OMAHA, Neb. -- Police said a motorcyclist, "Idiot Delight" who fled from them Wednesday at almost 200 mph not only put himself in danger but also drivers in cars. "You can check your rear view mirror and not see anyone, and then have someone coming by you at 188 mph," said Iowa State patrol Lt. Mike Miller. "It's a frightening thing for the public." Miller said a driver being passed can react in unpredictable ways and endanger everyone else on the road. The motorcyclist, 36-year-old , "Idiot Delight" accelerated after troopers spotted him on Interstate 29 near Missouri Valley. He sped into Council Bluffs, where he got on Interstate 480 at Broadway Avenue, Miller said. Within minutes, he was speeding west on Interstate 80 in Omaha. He exited at 60th Street and stopped his sports bike at a house near 59th and Fay streets, where he was caught. "Idiot Delight" faces several felony and misdemeanor charges. This was partly in the Interstate through Omaha itself. Heavy traffice most the time. I see enough of these morons almost every day. A group of rocket riders will block off a couple of lanes on the Interstated by slowing down traffic then do their 75 MPH wheelies in the gaps. Seen some pretty close calls by cagers jumping into the open lanes and not seeing what was going on behind them. It's a freak show out there these days. Mike

Thanks for all the input, actually everyone was right on and it helped resolve the "bad new" battery problem, never had one before. Another "new" Interstate battery and it fired right up, thanks again.

Yep. I finally took my first interstate ride on my original '98 Royal Star Silverado. It's been sitting covered in the heated garage for 11 years only to be ridden for an ice cream cone a few times per year. 2,109 miles in four days ; MI to OH to IN to KY to TN to NC and back around through the Dragon's Tail and the Parkway to TN to KY to OH and back to MI. Partied in Richmond, IN. Ate BBQ at Corky's in Memphis,TN. Ran out of gas on the way to Knoxville, TN . Scraped the floor boards through The Dragon . Rode through a thunder storm in KY . And back to 45 F in MI ! Hmmm ... think I'll head out to ME next weekend .

I am gonna be going to asheville nc. area for a few days and would like to know of any special places that I should see when my wife and I are there on the RSV. We plan on seeing lake lure and chimney rock and also jumpin on the blue ridge prkwy.for a ride.Speaking of the blue ridge,I understand that some of it is closed for construction. Does anyone know where that is? And how do u get on it? I read somewhere that there is no entrance or exit ramps to or from any interstate hwy. We can go north or south on it,,makes no difference. Any other points of interest that yall think we should see? Fun things? pretty things? unique things? nice places to eat? we aren't makin any plans and are just gonna stop wherever and whenever we want. Thx for any input.
