Was putting the side panels back on after replacing some of the louvers that had come apart. I noticed how the bad louvers were warped, and figured it must be from the excessive heat they're subjected to. As I thought about it, I don't remember ever wanting to open them, and how even when closed the heat coming through them is uncomfortable, so I decided to block them. I put a thin piece of insulation over them, with a dab of silicone at each corner to hold them in place. If anyone wants a bit of this insulation to do this, let me know and we'll work something out.

I found the hippo hands site (http://www.hippohands.com) Also found Bikerpaws, but it is apparently no longer available. And lastly I found "winterhands" (http://www.outsideconnection.com/gallant/VX/winterhands.htm). Unfortunately only a mailing address, no phone or e-mail winterhands is lined and more expensive, while hippohands looks more like a rigid "fairing" which would keep the wind of but not provide any insulation. There are probably other similar things but I haven't found them (yet). Who has experience with what? Thanks

As some of you noticed last MD I have Roadhouse mufflers on my 09 RSV. They have always had a nice deep tone to them but not overly loud. Well, all that changed and things got progressively louder to the point it was annoying to say the least. So, I ordered some ceramic muffler repacking off the internet and decided to tackle the job of repacking the mufflers hoping to get back to that deep mellow tone. Most of the steel wool insulation that came in the pipes had already burned out so I wrapped the new stuff around the baffles and reinserted them back into the cans. I was very disappointed!!! They were actually louder than before I repacked them!! Lucky for me, I still had the original mufflers, so I put those back on until I can find the oem packing for the Roadhouse mufflers. When I first started the bike after putting the oem(Yamaha) mufflers on it I thought, "Man this sure sound anemic"!! But after riding it for the last couple of days, I kinda like the quiet! Now, I said all that to say this. If any of you decide to tackle repacking your mufflers and want to buy the ceramic insulation because it has extremely high temp qualities and won't burn out, DON'T!! But if you like it obnoxiously loud, then by all means, go ahead and purchase this material. But until I get mine(Roadhouse mufflers) to sound like they did when I first bought them, I'll be riding around as quiet (stock oem mufflers) as a mouse!!!

I have acquired a huge amount of 14 gauge thhn wire and rather than scrap it out, if anybody is going to do some lighting or whatever on their bike I'd be happy to mail 15 or 20 foot lengths of it just for the cost of the envelope and postage. btw - what I have now is black, I just got rid of 30 lbs of red. It's all used wire but the insulation is intact

Some folks here have noted that there is quite a bit of heat buildup around the feet and floor board areas of our 2nd. Gen Ventures due to the placement of the exhaust pipes. I was wondering if anyone has tried wrapping the inner exhaust pipes with the insulation wrap you see on some choppers and sport bikes? I recently read a magazine article that discussed doing this procedure on a Honda ST1300. - Has anyone attempted this? - What was the result of your efforts? - Would there be any potential negative effects? Thanks for the thoughts. MickO

I was so happy 6 weeks ago when i traded my 1100 for my 04 RSV. it was the last bike i'll need. Well now i want to get rid of it, the noise ruins my ride. has anyone tried wraping the lower end in insulation? Will yamaha give me a I basket and i'll install it. i don't want to pay for a fix that won't work. has anyone tried filing the gears? if i can't fix this i'm getting a HD. dissapointed.........
