Was headin home from work Friday in my '10 Nissan Altima SR, the fast one with the 270 HP V-6 when a "new to Texas" uninsured woman from elsewhere, rearended me. Damages to the rear are substantial and the front of my car is not quite as bad, but probably totalled; don't know for sure yet. Glad I had uninsured motorist coverage. Was taken to a local hospital for lower back injuries as well a seriously bruised chest and neck. I'll be fine in a couple weeks. Glad I wasn't on one of my scooters. If totalled, I am going to replace the Nissan with a Camaro. So there is good in everything.

This time it's me. My passenger wife and I whacked a deer broadside at 55mph on Tuesday eve. My wife walked away and I got hauled in the ambulance on a backboard. A little roadrash on my hands and arms. Textile is NOT as good as leather. Helmets DO work. The worst of my injuries is that my back is sprained. CT scan showed no new injuries, just aggrivated old injuries. I firmly believe that the bike saved our lives. The rails did their job. We didn't get trapped on the bike. The deer sort of exploded. -- Rick

It has been a bad weekend in this area. The first accident happened at 2am Sunday morning when a 30 yr old rider drove into the back of police cruiser at a high rate of speed totally destroying the bike and also totaled the cruiser. The second was on Sunday evening when a 21 yr old girl pulled out of a driveway and onto the highway, the Harley driven by a 55 yr old man tried an evasive maneuver but hit the car in the drivers door sending him through the air, he passed away from his injuries this morning. I guess you have to be ever vigilant of your surroundings, but you can't control what other people do, I'm sure everyone becomes more cautious when something like this happens. Ride safe everyone. Condolences to their families.

...take the winter and buy some good protective riding gear! Those of you who ride in jeans, T-shirt and a half helmet may want to rethink your riding attire. The amount of accidents posted here is disturbing. I'm not saying gear would have helped prevent any of them but proper gear may have lessened injuries. Some are spending a lot of time blaming others for accidents and are looking to devices to add, petitions to sign but are we doing everything WE can do to minimize our injuries? Just cause it isn't a race bike doesn't mean we shouldn't wear good protective clothing & gear. New Enough has some good stuff or visit your local dealer and support his efforts.
