Started up the 87 VR today and pumping fuel onto the ground behind the center stand. It looks like it is coming from the bottom front of the fuel tank. Only running out (very heavy) when engine is running. Is the fuel pump located there? Is there information on taking it apart so I can determine what is leaking? Thanks for the help Mike

Decals are ordered, paid for and on the way. I should have them in 10 days and will get them right out to you. Please get your orders placed to help me defray the initial outlay of cash. See this thread for ordering information. I had to order quite a few to keep the price down to where it was so any of you who can order and pay now will be appreciated. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/venturerider-merchandise/39088-venturerider-domed-decals.html

We are in the process of rebuilding our VR Assistance List. If you can and are willing to offer assistance to a member who is riding through your area, please edit your profile to include that information. Simply click on "Settings" at the upper right of the page and then scroll down to "Edit Profile". Near the bottom you will find a place to select "yes or no" in regards to offering local assistance and then a place to select services that you may be able to offer. Cowpuc just mentioned in another thread another, and maybe easier, way to get to it. Click "forum actions" in the small menu at the top. Select edit profile. Scroll down and you'll see where to select your information.

In the market for a new rear tire and was curious if anyone has had any experience with the Michelin Commanders. Looking for how many miles you got out of them and how they handled on wet roads. Thanks in advance for the information. Phoenix Additional question - can anyone advise on the new tread depth? Michelin doesn't post their tire specs on their website.

Recently, I was notified by Paypal that I had to verify my account because I had neared the $5,000 send limit. According to their writings, the verification process is to prove you are who you say you are. In reality, it appears to be a somewhat different ploy. My account was set up using two credit cards I have had for years, not the least of which was American Express. Both of these cards offer high levels of security. They are all I care to use on the internet, ever. The fun part of Paypal's "verification" process is that there are only two ways to get "verifyied" so you can continue to use their system. The first is to provide them with your personal banking information. The other is to apply for their credit card. Being in the accounting profession for 35 years, and owning my own practice for 25 of those years, I sometimes actually take note of things "financial". So, after researching, and trying to contact Paypal, I found no other way to get "verified", even though my own credit cards have already done that, and my Paypal account has had $4,500 pass through it without one glitch, ever. Paypal is quite straight forward about their demands. If you do not give them your banking information or apply for their credit card, your account with them is locked. In other words, no more using Paypal until you succumb to their demands. Now, all of that being said, I see absolutely no reason for why I would or should ever give Paypal or anyone else my banking information for no legitimate reason. That comes up smelling a lot like marginally legal phishing for financial information without cause. Neither do I care to apply for a credit card I do not want, or need. That is just plain old fashioned over the top aggressive marketing in any other language. So, here I am in the initial stages of letting people know that Paypal is conducting business in such a way that they try to force people into giving up personal information or creating a credit card account they may neither want, nor need with the same intent of gathering personal information on their customers without cause. Paypal is nothing special. It is a service type vendor subject to success by treating its customers fairly. This "verification" process clearly verifies that there are many serious reasons to avoid them or to close any existing accounts people may have with them. Paypal claims it is for security reasons. If Hackers can get into the FBI, CIA and most major banks and governments around the world, Paypal is not even worth mentioning. It should be a piece of cake for the hackers to steal whatever they wish from Paypal. Read the fine print and decide for yourself. But, for me, I am going back to direct involvement with selected vendors, thus ceasing doing business with Paypal and EBay. I do not need these two companies at all.

I was just reading a news article about a site called Glassboard? Anybody here use it? It is supposed to be a good alternative to Facebook. The biggest difference being that it is totally private and they don't sell your information to advertisers. Only those whom you invite can view the information that you post. I am NOT on it. Just curious as I had not heard of it before. http://glassboard.com/

OK folks, I have started rebuilding our 2013 VentureRider Rally countdown page. I've added the information that I have at this time. Please take a look and post any additional information that you might have. A couple months ago, I was reading some posting, concerning Ignition Coils ! Question: ? Sombody made mention that on his 2nd Gen, ( don't remember what year ) he had changed the Ignition Coils to some kind of Plug Over type Coil. ?? I assume he used coils from some other type of bike. Does anybody, know, or remember which member this was who made this posting ?? I have this type of Ignition Coil set up on my Busa, and am very interested is makeing this modification to my 08 RSTD if this is possible. Anybody remember this information, ???? I'm thinking that this mod might help reduce " Ignition Noise" in the AM radio system ?? ( well, maby it will ) :detective:

1st gen radio information

I'm a Electronic Engineer, and have a set of 1st gen radio/intercom parts to "tinker with" on their way to me. In preparation to figure out how these things work and how to fully troubleshoot/ repair them does anyone have any detailed information about the setup? connector pinouts wiring diagrams? etc?? I am hoping to come up with a document to help others keep their radios working and to troubleshoot them. I also have a secret plan to upgrade my 1st gen with a stock radio. I need the space in the fairing for my Ham radio transcever, so the car stereo and it's mount will need to go. Also as a note, if anyone has any dead radio parts they are willing to sell cheap, I am certian I will need more "victims" to be disected on the bench. I might be able to find a common failure point if I go through enough of them.- 76 replies

Just curious..... I switch between FireFox and Internet Explorer (most current version of each) on this computer and I also use Safari on my iPad2. Now and then I have to do the Username/Password to log in to the site. Here's the query: There are two log-in boxes, one on the left near the top and one on the upper right. When I use the one on the left, my information is not accepted and I am warned that I have use "X of 5 attempts". When I use the one in the upper right my information is accepted and I log in and stay logged in until I use the iPad2. Anyone else have similar problems and/or why one log-in box refuses the information while the other readily accepts it?

I have an immediate need for my 90 model XVZ13DAC Venture. It has OEM CB and Intercom, but I need to obtain a headset and mike to use them. I was hoping someone who has a similar bike or who is familiar with this setup, can give me some information on where I could best find these items. I have just bought this bike, and it is cherry! Everything works, but it does not have a headset / mike. Any help would be most appreciated.

I have made a write up covering some basics on the use and installation of relays in motorcycles. I worked in railroad signaling for 15 years and most of this time I was a signal circuit design engineer. I primarily dealt with relay based design involving signaling and highway crossing protection. During this time, I gained some knowledge concerning relays and the design of relay based circuits. The write up refers primarily with the relays used in Ventures. It does not include any information regarding the starting solenoid or flasher relays. I have included some basic information and definitions regarding relays. There are pictures of the internal workings of Venture and automotive style accessory relays that are available at various auto parts stores. Also included is some basic information involved in wiring and fuse size selection. I have included examples of several practical applications of relays involving Ventures including: Driving lamp addition Passing Lamp addition for RSV’s Headlight cut-out when starting for RSV’s Air horn addition Ignition switch bypass modification for RSV’s To open the PDF file, click on file name shown in blue below. Anyone know of this ????
FuzzyRSTD posted a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I saw this on the web and was wondering if any of you all have tried this ? Would this be of real use on these engines, or a no/no ? Claims to give better fuel mileage and looks good/good reviews and so on. But I know nothing of a crank case filter on these engines. So any and all information appreciated here. I would like to know more about a crankcase filter ? Thanks, https://www.denniskirk.com/emgo/crankcase-breather-filter-kit.p301754.prd/301754.sku#tabs Fuzzy -

Well, I got the paperwork all done and now I’m the proud owner of a 1989 Venture. I started looking at it about a week ago and found this site through my son, who is already a venture rider(second gen.) and member. I read through the first 35 pages of the first gen. forum, and found all sorts of good information. Now about the Venture. It has 56K miles, and all the leather is in very good shape. The trunk, saddle boxes, faring and windshield are in very good condition. The dash has some areas where the screw holes are broken off, and some of the vent louvers are broken or missing especially by the motor. The collector ‘rattles’ on start-up, but goes away after a couple of minutes, I can live with that for awhile. It has a Dunlap 491 on the front and a Avon venom on the rear, air pressures are good and the casting whiskers are still visible near the outside of the tread area. All of the electronics seem to be working, except for the CLASS, which has the E-4 problem. I have an electrical/mechanical background and the information posted on about page 12, of the ‘first gen. forum’, gave me the information I need to get that repaired.(Thanks) The water resistant paper on the amplifier ‘road noise pick-up mike’ is damaged, so if someone knows of a replacement product, that would help. Using the Schrader Valves mounted on the right rear fender, I found the rear shock pressure at 40 psi. and the front at 0 psi. I reduced the rear to 15, and increased the front to 15. (When I checked the pressure for the forks, oil leaked from the Schrader valve.) The pressures have been holding steady for about an hour. I will probably have to purge the air line back into the forks. The dampener is set on 4 and I will reduce this to 1 because I will be riding ‘1 up’ for awhile. (BTW- somewhere in the forum was a tip to put a 2 by 4 under the rear tire to help in getting up onto the center stand, I don’t think I could have done it any other way. A 2 by 6 by 16” is now part of the tool kit in my right saddle box.) The previous owner kept the fuel valve in the reserve position, is that a good idea? I used to ride,, back-in-the-day , early 70’s. I had a ‘65’ 650Triumph Bonneville when I was single and in the Navy on the west coast. This Venture is a little bigger and I am a little older so it will take some time to get comfortable and confident again. rod
