  1. Are you and your family traveling this holiday season and staying in a hotel, well you better watch this...........you might change your mind. http://www.liveleak.com/player.swf?token=a7f_1194813218
  2. I'm seriously thinking about buying a trailer to use on our 4000 mile trip we have planned for September. I have a question that keeps coming to my mind that is keeping me from going ahead and pulling the trigger to buy one. Q. How the heck do you keep the thing secure if you leave it at the hotel while you do a day ride? Surely some of you have some jazzy ways to secure it so it will still be there when you get back to the hotel. I'd be on fire if I spent good money for a trailer and it got stolen while I was on my trip. Please advise.
  3. Where and who is staying where for the Don's maintance day any hotel information? Thanks
  4. Got a call last night about 9 PM. Playboy was in town and wanted to get together. Too bad, I was at work. Asked him where he was staying and it was a hotel 1 block from my plant. So we agreed to have some coffee at the Waffle House when I got off at 1130 PM. Had a nice chat and he went to sleep and I went home. Sure do wish we had some more time. Anyway, meeting another man at his hotel room at midnight just didnt seem quite right.....:rotf: Sorry Vance, couldnt resist. But it was nice meeting up with you, even if it was only for an hour.
  5. Hi, I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, I came down here to Madrid, Spain for a short vacation unfortunately I was mugged at the park on my way to the hotel where I lodge, all cash, credit card and my cellphone were stolen from me but luckily for me I still have my passports with me. I've been to the embassy here in Madrid but the Police here are not helping issues at all and my flight leaves shortly from now but I'm having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave this hotel until I settle the bills because I don't have any money with me here, the amount needed now is just $1,850, so I will be glad if you can help me with this amount... I am so confused right now, but thank God I weren't injured because I complied immediately, though, I suffer little injury on my left arm. I'm freaked out at the moment, so I really need your assistance to get back home soon and I'll surely pay you back upon return. Waiting to hear from you today. Thanks. Mike Goeman.
  6. This week I find myself in yet another hotel with very substandard Internet service. As many of you know, I travel on a weekly basis and actually spend more nights in hotel rooms each than I do at home. Now I'm not all that picky and the company that I work for is fairly conservative when it comes to how much I should spend on hotel rooms so I stay in mid grade hotels and about 95% of the time, I stay at Comfort Inns. There are really only a handful of things that I expect. A very clean room, a coffee pot and decent Internet service. I keep pretty good records of which ones are pretty good and which or not and won't return to one that doesn't meet my few expectations. Now, ALL Comfort Inns have either wireless or hard wired internet service. Some have both. I find that about 40% of them actually work pretty darn good, maybe another 30% are acceptable and the remaining 30% make me want to Now HERE is my biggest complaint. If I am at a hotel that is having a problem with their Internet service. Most of the time, about 99% of the time, they give me a phone number for their service provider and want me to call them. That is my rub. It is NOT my problem...it is THEIR problem. I know that my computer is working properly. I have no desire to spend one to more hours on the telephone with THEIR service provider helping them troubleshoot THEIR problems. I have done it once or twice and it ALWAYS turns out to be a problem with either the provider or the hotel hardware. It has NEVER...not a single time, been an issue with my computer. So, why should I...a paying guest...be asked to call and spend my evenings helping to troubleshoot THEIR issues? You all know the routine...."have you tried restarting your computer"...OK...."let's go into your settings"...."do you how to run a command from a command line prompt"....yadayadayadayada.......................... "OK...the problem seems to be on our end...............".... YOU THINK? It happened again last night and sure enough, they wanted me to call the service provider. I said no thanks, I don't work for you. Please call them yourself and get the problems resolved. About 10 minutes later, the service provider actually called ME. He asked if I was using Wifi or the hardwired connection. I told him that I had tried both with the same results. I get an excellent Wifi signal and have no problem connecting. I also have no problem connecting via the hardwired connection. In both cases though, it works and then stops and then 3 or 4 minutes later...works again. I click on a link and it times out...I click again and it opens. "OK sir.......have you tried restarting your system". NO...I have NOT restarted my system and I'm NOT going to either. I'm also not going to open my settings.....I DON'T WORK FOR YOU or the HOTEL! You guys figure it out. GOODBYE. OK.....rant mode off............
  7. Picked up my 2008 Goldwing with 865 miles on it from outside White Plains, NY this past weekend. Flew out from Detroit Saturday afternoon and took possession that evening. Stayed in a hotel that night, started off Sunday morning about 7AM. Didn't start off so good. 2 1/2 hours of 1 mile visibility fog and 57deg not fun on a new bike. Pushed out 360 miles, not bad considering the start I had that morning, the new to me bike and an ongoing intestinal trac malfunction. Monday started out very good west bound on I80, left about 8AM 68deg and semi sunny. about an hour into the ride I thought it looked like it might rain. Pulled off to dhon my rain gear and as I was zipping up the jacket the drops started and continued for the next 2 hrs. Stopped for fuel and the rain was replaced with a 20 MPH or so crosswind for the next 2 hours. Finally made it to I280 north just south of Toledo, OH. Ah, wind at my back what a nice ride. Made it home about 1:30PM a total of 686 miles later. I have to say that I really like my RSV but my first impression of the Wing is I love it. I have to add some bling, comfort items, safety items and other stuff but I'm sure I'll continue to love it. It has the audio / comfort, NAV and ABS on it. I used the NAV and although it is somewhat cumbersome (touch screen would be nice) it functioned flawlessly. I had no idea where I was in White Plains. The person I bought it from punched in the hotel address and I followed the instructions. When I left the hotel I punched in Toledo, OH and followed that. Fortunately I didn't "have to test" the ABS and didn't want to. Now that I have some miles on it I'll test them the next time I'm out (if it stops raining). The slow speed handling & balance is much better IMHO than the RSV, the power is remarkable and smooth. Fit and finish excellent. Electronics / audio are awesome. Little things like the horizontal valve stems just add to the quality of this bike. Thanks for listening, Jim
  8. My girlfriend is unable to go to MD with me so... if anyone wants to share a room I have one booked at the Quality Inn for Friday and Saturday night. I'll be at the dinner Friday night or depending on the time you arrive you can ask for me at the hotel. PM me and I'll get it on my Blackberry if you are interested. I should mention... it is a smoking room that is reserved. Don Tohivsky
  9. An elderly lady decided to give herself a big treat for her significant birthday by staying overnight in one of London 's most expensive hotels. When she checked out next morning, the desk clerk handed her a bill for £250.00. She exploded and demanded to know why the charge was so high. "It's a nice hotel but the rooms certainly aren't worth £250.00 for just an overnight stop without even breakfast." The clerk told her that £250.00 is the 'standard rate' so she insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and forewarned by the desk clerk announced: "the hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference centre which are available for use." 'But I didn't use them," she said. ''Well, they are here, and you could have," explained the Manager. He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which the hotel is famous. "We have the best entertainers fromEdinburgh, Glasgow , and Aberdeen performing here," the Manager said. "But I didn't go to any of those shows," she said. "Well, we have them, and you could have," the Manager replied. No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she replied, "But I didn't use it!" The Manager was unmoved, so she decided to pay, wrote a cheque and gave it to the Manager. The Manager was surprised when he looked at the cheque. "But madam, this cheque is only made out for £50.00." ''That's correct. I charged you £200.00 for sleeping with me," she replied. "But I didn't!" exclaims the very surprised Manager. "Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have." Don't mess with Senior Citizens:mo money:

  11. An illustrated bailout plan that just might work... It is a slow day in the damp little town of Oberlin, Ohio. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt and everybody lives on credit. On this particular day a rich Venture rider from Texas rides into town, stops at the local hotel and lays a $100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night. The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel. The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the pub. The pub owner slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit. The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the same note. The hotel proprietor then places the note back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything. At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money and leaves town. No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and looking forward to the next Venture rider maintenance day with a lot more optimism. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a bailout package works...
  12. I am so glad to be home for the weekend. This was a very trying week for me. I know that we all have them from time to time. I was in Pittsburgh, PA all week. Not my favorite place to begin with. It went downhill from there. 1. First hotel I checked into on Monday evening was having problems with their internet. NO NO NO....that doesn't work for me. Checked out and found another hotel. 2. Hotel number two was just fine. The only problem was that a bridge was under construction which required that I take a detour of a few miles every time I left the hotel in order to get back to it. Could have been worse though. 3. Brakes started squealing on the front of my company Caravan. High pitched squeal drove me crazy all week. 4. Every morning when I started the van it sounded like something was coming apart. I'm pretty sure that it is an idler pulley. It would quieten down once it warmed up. 5. Not sure where it happened because I didn't notice it until I got back to the hotel and was walking away from the van but somebody managed to run into the right rear and caved the bumper in. I'm pretty sure that it must have happened in a very crowded parking lot that I was in while visiting a customer. So, this week is FINALLY over. I dropped the van off at my local repair shop for an oil change, front brake job and probably an idler pulley. Will take it to the body shop when I get a chance to get an estimate and then repair on the bumper. Now I just have to decide where I'm off to next week. I had planned on going to Buffalo, NY but I just don't think I can tolerate Pittsburgh and Buffalo back to back. Maybe somewhere in West Virginia would be better. I'm thinking maybe Charleston.....we'll see.

  15. This is a terrible tragedy. The truck driver who caused this says he was 'shuffling through paper work'. Yeah right. More likely he was texting. Whichever, I think anyone who recklessly kills a biker while piloting a deadly weapon should be hanged, but I will settle for manslaughter charges and several years in the crossbar hotel. Ironically, this disaster happened on a road called the 'Carefree Highway'! Yall be careFULL out there! http://www.azcentral.com/community/northvalley/articles/2010/03/25/20100325phoenix-motorcycle-crash-abrk.html http://www.azcentral.com/12news/news/articles/2010/03/27/20100327driver-in-phoenix-motorcycle-crash-CP.html http://www.azcentral.com/commphotos/azcentral/14118/1/29 http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid30311461001?bctid=74178410001 http://i.azcentral.com/commphotos/view/354595.jpg

  17. I made a reservation at this hotel before reading the Internet reviews. Is the hotel as bad as some reviews say? I would greatly appreciate any feedback from people how have stayed there recently. Thanks!
  18. Almost anyway. We stayed in Cornelia last night but are going to be in Helen for the next couple of night before checking in to the cabin on Wednesday. We haven't gotten rained on at all but it has sure been hot. For some reason, I can't check my email from this hotel. Internet is working and I can get my email from venturerider.org but they seem to have the entire Verizon network blocked and I can't access my email through Thunderbird and even the Webmail page won't open. So...I wasn't able to check my email of all the posts for the past day and can't get any email that you may have sent. Hopefully it will work from the hotel in Helen. This is the first time I've been able to get online and have my email not work. Looking forward to seeing you all.
  19. I was wondering what hotel those of us that don't have reservations at the park are going to stay in? Everyone for themselves or can we congregate at the same hotel for convenience? Looking forward to meeting everyone. Thanks, Mike and Susan.
  20. Does anyone know if the hotel located at The Hub provides internet access in the rooms by means of a router or cable hookup? I will be arriving there Saturday and need to review work stuff on-line, time permitting of course. If not, no need to drag my laptop along. Appreciate any info anyone can provide.

  23. Here are the pics of the Tatoo weekend. Was great seeing all those that made it there, even those that came by cage I think the cage was brought for the Big Tough Sailor guy, just in case he passed out. Always something going on, we no more than pull up at the hotel Friday night, greet Sledgehammer and Riderduke, then a total stranger shows up, tells us he is having a heart attack and we call 911. The ambulance got there, took him away, but they did not think he was having a heart attack. So what a way to start the Tatoo weekend by calling 911. Also, Sledgehammer should tell you all how he got into the hotel bar and paid no coverage, only the women had to pay $1, but the guys had to pay $5. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20Tatoo%2020081108/
  24. Well it would appear that we will not be able to make it to ES this year. Cindy and I were really looking forward to getting away for a few days. Even paid to have the daughter fly out from Ohio to watch Haylie. Well anyway, I have to cancel the hotel and if anyone on here would like the room I can tell the hotel when I call to cancel our reservations. I will be calling around noon tomorrow central time to cancel. Dale
  25. Dkknight, daughter and I were in Las Vegas this weekend. Toby Keith gave the SRNCO conference 300 tickets to his concert there Satuarday night (loved the concert). We were staying at the South Point Hotel and Casino. First I saw a blue and black Venture and put a VentureRider card on it as I was leaving to go shopping. When I came back, lo and behold, there sat another Venture. But this one had a VentureRider sticker on it. I left a card and said hello and who are you. There was a name plate with their names and said Minnesota. I went to the room and told Tom about the MRSV. He said he thought it was "Kantornado". We went and had dinner. After we ate (had to eat like all VentureRiders food is important) we looked for Ron. We didn't find him. I was sad to miss the chance to meet him...maybe next time and we'll call first. The last Venture I saw was as we were leaving the hotel to head for Disneyland for the next leg of our trip. He pulled into the parking garage and I tried to talk to him but he seemed like he was in a hurry (and probably thought I was crazy). He worked at the bowling alley at the hotel/casino. I wonder if I'll see any Ventures here in CA.?
