The weather just got right to start back with my woodturning, got about 1/2 way thru a Marblewood bowl, shut the lathe off to check the work and now it will not start again. Fuse is good, power is good to the outlet. Switch is good, suspect the relay that I hear click in each time I power it up is bad, it is mounted to a circuit board so it is not like I can just swap it out, the lathe is a 4 year old Nova DRV with an electronic brain for controlling the speed and sensing overlaods and out of balance situations, so there is not much I can do with it until I get a Return Goods Authorization from Teknatool. I geuss they are still on holiday break because my online trouble ticket has gone untouched for about 3 days and phone calls to the engineering tech go straight to voice mail. I would go for a ride rathter than vent here, but it is raining, Drat the bad luck all around, at least I am not at work. Guess I wil just have to wait for the tech service department to come back from holiday. Just venting that is all.

Well we have a new Atlana area member, some of you met him at the N. Ga. M&E. Gene rides a Kawasaki Concours. I told him he would be in for some good natured ribbing about not riding a Venture or Yamaha, but he did ride a V Star 650 before moving up to is nice looking Concours. I guess thats sorta like staying at the Holiday Inn Express.............:rotfl: By the way Gene and I work for the same company, so I will make sure he keeps up with you guys Welcome to the family Gene, you just joined the most addictive web site in the world!!!!!

I'm planning on coming to the Kruis'n the Kootenays in 2012. At the same time I found a time share (22 Jun to 29 Jun) that I can trade into in Kelowna called Holiday Resort Park immediately the week before ending on the 29th of June. My wife has relatives in Kelowna too visit also. This would be perfect for I would leave Kelowna on the 29th an arrive at Nelson that same day. Maybe make a day of it and sight see between Kelowna and Nelson. My question is has anyone stayed at the Holiday Resort Park in their 1 bedroom condo. Would like your opinion. Maybe some units are nicer than others? What are some recommended rides and places to see, things to do, and favorite places to eat in the Kelowna area Second, What would be a nice ride between Kelowna and Nelson being that it is just a short 200 miles between the 2 cities. I wouldn't mind a longer scenic ride.

In continuing with the holiday and CHRISTmas spirit of being with those less fortunate than yourself, I have invited my friend who rides a 2nd Gen to my daughter's and granddaughter's welcome home party tomorrow.... It seems to be the charitable thing to do..... and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than hiring a clown for entertainment ....

In case you are a newbie to Venturerider.org and/or don't know this already...during this holiday season all ventureriders must follow these tips: 1.) Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls. 2.) Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly, It's rare. You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-alcoholic or something. It's a treat, enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas! 3.) If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on, make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy, eat the volcano. Repeat. 4.) As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission. 5.) Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello? 6.) Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog. 7.) If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again. 8.) Same for pies, apple, pumpkin, mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day? 9.) Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards. 10.) One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!" Have a great holiday season

not a whole lot happening this month on the rally cuz of the holiday season. just want to remind every one that would like to register and order their t-shirt sizes, or just drop in and see what the t-shirts look like, just click on the hub at the top of the venturerider home page. early registration will be helpful, so we can get a count for the final meal and so cindy can get going on the t-shirts and patches , and rosebud can make up the name badges for the meet. i hope everyone is having as great a holiday season as linda and i are having. bill

Greetings all, Just a quick post to let you know I won't be annoying anybody for a while after tomorrow. Bright and early Thursday morning Wendy and I are heading off on a 5 weeks camping holiday through Central Australia. No bike - taking the Subaru Outback. In that time we will cover the entire continent from south to north (Adelaide to Darwin) then back again through inland Queensland. Check your atlas! Not taking any wireless broadband, so won't be on-line for those 5 weeks. Will however (when time and opportunity permit) check in to internet cafes and let you know how we're travelling. Plan on taking 4 cameras with me so I'll have thousands of images to play with whilst away, and hopefully sell a few when I get back to help finance the holiday. Y'all be careful out there you hear. I'll miss the 5,000th member joining, but whoever it may be - Welcome. Cheers from the Great Southern Land. Spear

and the dealer says its 3 weeks before he can look at it. Then if he thinks its covered under warranty he'll order one, and I'll have to make another 140 mile round trip to get it installed. When pressed about the time, he said that they are really busy with the holiday and all. (Is tomorrow a holiday that I've missed?) This throws a damper in the plans to take the bike on our vacation next week. And thats the dealer I bought it from! Don't ya just love 'em?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of the members of this website that I know Personally and all that I have yet to meet. With the comercialization of the season lets not forget what this holiday is all about. I am looking forward to the comming year and all the possibilities that it holds for all of us. I would like for each and every one of you to say a special prayer for the members we have lost as well as all the non members that have been taken away from what we love to do. Lets not forget the Families left behind after all they are the ones that are hurting the most from the loss of a loved one. I think about all of the fallen members of this site every day and pray that their families have the stength to carry on. In the last 3 years we have had some of our VR Family members taken from us and some that have had near misses. All that I can figure from the near misses is that they are a wake up call for those members for one reason or another. But I believe we can all learn from each others lessons. Lets all stay safe and have a Healthy and Happy 2008 Please. Lets not forget the members of this site that need our prayers for strength to battle health issues. And the members serving overseas. Ride Safe and have a Great Holiday Season with your families. Jeff

First, thanks again to all of you for your prayers, messages of support and general well wishes. It meant quite alot knowing you guys were sending positive thoughts while I was getting the finest treatment Wheeling, WV has to offer. Its been two and a half months since the accident. I'm still at home, and still not allowed to put any weight on the leg (turns out I had 8 breaks, femur to foot). I still have some open wounds, and my foot is still the size and color of a small holiday ham. On the plus side, I am now allowed to try walking with crutches, can sit in the front seat of the car like a big boy, and I returned to playing keyboards with my band, after lowering my equipment. My one month old venture was totaled and bought by the insurance company, (at a profit!) I'm going to wait until I'm healed before getting a replacement. My girlfriend has been an angel through all of this, so while in ICU the second time, I asked her to marry me. Surprisingly, she wants me to get another cycle. So while not currently a venture owner, I plan on still being a venture rider. By the way, I have two of the Yamaha headsets, never used, that I'm offering for sale. I'll post details in the correct forum. Wishing y'all a great holiday season, Jim

Hey guys. Just found this on eBay. Could be a cheap way of coming down under for a touring holiday WITHOUT bringing your rig with you. You'd get your money back before you went home! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320162190891
