I have been looking at old posts about speakers and back a few years ago everyone was going to the Polk DB401 speakers. Now that time has passed how are the speakers holding up and would you still recommend the same speakers? I have been thinking of putting some speakers in that I can actually hear.

I'm going to hold all of my current prices for my items I make for another full season here. Current prices have been in effect for two years now but I know that by years end I'm going to have to raise them due to higher shipping and material costs. Anyhow everyone can expect my items holding at the current level till then when I'll reevaluate after the new year starts. Larry

This is very nice. Merry Christmas To All, Again ............ The "W" in Christmas Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending. Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas. My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old. For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise. So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title. Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads. Those in the front row- center stage - held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song. As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love." The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down - totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W". The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W". Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities. For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear: "C H R I S T W A S L O V E" And, I believe, He still is. Amazed in His presence... .humbled by His love. Again, HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS SEASON!

How do you deal with removing/installing the grips on a first gen? Are the chrome caps on the end of the bars removable or do the old grips have to be cut off and the new ones stretched over the end caps? I have an 84 VR that the PO put leather grip covers on, which make my hands feel like I'm holding onto the fat end of a baseball bat. Want to remove the covers and set something up that is a little smaller in diameter.

I just stumbled on this website and knowing that we are an "older" group of riders I thought it may be of some interest to some of the members that may be starting to have an issue pulling or holding the clutch lever. http://www.efmautoclutch.com/ It isn't inexpensive but they build two clutches; one that has NO pull pressure on the lever and one that you don't use the lever at all. And they hold much better than stock. They have a few videos on the site showing how well it works. Just thought it may help keep someone riding a few years longer!

After only one week of owning my RSTD, I have now COMPLETELY ruined a perfectly good motorcycle by riding it in the RAIN!! Sure it was only a couple of little drops, but I know that holding out any hope for resale (esp. on craigslist) is now totally pointless.

An article I wandered across today instead of actually working. It stated that the new wing wont be built for at least a year or 2 so they are in a holding pattern over at Honda as well. http://blog.ridermagazine.com/2010/05/12/new-honda-gold-wing-news/ Brian

I am in dire need of a screw to hold the Venture Royale Logo on the front of my 1986. If anyone has one or more they would part with, please let me know. Also, I am looking for the hex nuts for holding a backrest on the swivel point on the frame.

Drove my truck to work this morning. When i stepped out of my truck I saw a guy standing next to a car wearing a motorcycle jacket and holding a helmet. Or so I thought, I looked again and he was just wearing a regular wind-breaker and holding a bag. Spring better get here soon. I need to go riding.

Is the front end just naturally a bit harsh on earlier years Ventures, or should I be thinking it is something else. It had 10 lbs of air in the forks and when pumping them while holding the brake they don't feel all that bad, but on the road it's a different story. The bike just turned over 22,000 miles and is in exc. condition. Louie

Just thought I'd pass along a recommendation for an organizer that hangs from the inside of the trunk lid. I bought one before a recent trip and am totally satisfied with it. It's got a zipper pouch which is good for holding bungees, Progressive air pump, tire gauge, etc and a couple of mesh pouches to hold rags, phone chargers, and even those extra cassette tapes that Yamaha thinks we all still carry around! It's also got a mirror on a velcro flap. Works great for holding those little lightweight items you've gotta have but don't want cluttering up the bottom of the trunk. You can order direct from their site http://www.cruzcraft.com/motorcycle-luggage-yamaha-venture-YVLO.html or from their eBay store http://stores.ebay.com/Ted-Brooks-Motorsports

Last week I installed Baron's 4-2-4 slip-ons on my 2006 Midnight Venture. Also put in new plugs; plugged the AIS lines and the inlet to the AIS pump; re-synched the carbs;and put in new air filters and a new fuel filter. The bike is now popping/backfiring during throttle up/throttle down and even when holding the throttle steady at 60 mph. Have I missed something? Can anyone help/advise with this annoying situation? Regards..........Boomer

This is AWESOME!----------hope that all the pics. come thru!!!! In Texas we really do pull off the road and stop for funerals......nobody moves until the last car has gone by. http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.2&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 What follows is a message from Vicki Pierce about her nephew James' funeral (he was serving our country in Iraq): "I'm back, it was certainly a quick trip, but I have to also say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. There is a lot to be said for growing up in a small town in Texas . The service itself was impressive with wonderful flowers and sprays, a portrait of James, his uniform and boots, his awards and ribbons. There was lots of military brass and an eloquent (though inappropriately longwinded) Baptist preacher. There were easily 1000 people at the service, filling the church sanctuary as well as the fellowship hall and spilling out into the parking lot. However, the most incredible thing was what happened following the service on the way to the cemetery. We went to our cars and drove to the cemetery escorted by at least 10 police cars with lights flashing and some other emergency vehicles, with Texas Rangers handling traffic. Everyone on the road who was not in the procession, pulled over, got out of their cars, and stood silently and respectfully, some put their hands over their hearts. When we turned off the highway suddenly there were teenage boys along both sides of the street about every 20 feet or so, all holding large American flags on long flag poles, and again with their hands on their hearts. We thought at first it was the Boy Scouts or 4H club or something, but it continued .. for two and a half miles. Hundreds of young people, standing silently on the side of the road with flags. At one point we passed an elementary school, and all the children were outside, shoulder to shoulder holding flags kindergartners, handicapped, teachers, staff, everyone. Some held signs of love and support. Then came teenage girls and younger boys, all holding flags. Then adults. Then families. All standing silently on the side of the road. No one spoke, not even the very young children. The military presence..at least two generals, a fist full of colonels, and representatives from every branch of the service, plus the color guard who attended James, and some who served with him .. was very impressive and respectful, but the love and pride from this community who had lost one of their own was the most amazing thing I've ever been privileged to witness. http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.3&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 I've attached some pictures, some are blurry (we were moving), but you can get a small idea of what this was like. http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.4&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0' These photos are awesome !! http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.5&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.6&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.7&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.8&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.9&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.10&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.11&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.12&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.13&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.14&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.15&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST MOVING E-MAILS I'VE SEEN. How do you remove the front speakers? I split the fairing and removed the four nuts holding the speakers but can't figure out how to remove them?

Did anyone every have the windshield on their 2nd Gen start to crack on them from the bottom up.Well guess what ? Mine is starting to crack (2) at the bottom .I had the inner and outer part of the fairing at the windshield replaced because it had broken (part holding the windshield) a little while back and I think they over tighten the screws holding the windshield. I`am waiting to hear back from my Dealer now.Wish me luck Eh ?
