When I left Don's, I must have packed too much stuff in the bags, (well, OK, I know I did) and my right bag is VERY stuck shut. I can release the front latch, but not the back one. I have tried pushing, pulling and every form of violent acts to get it open short of destroying it. My thought is somehow to take the hinge apart. it seems that there are two roll pins, front and back. I tried an easy out last night, but they didn't move. I called two dealers and talked with their parts and service guys, and the computer blowup didn't show the breakdown of the hinge. And the service depts, had never run into this problem. I'm now thinking if we have a small enough aircraft drill bit here, I might try and drill out the roll pin. (I'm assuming that there is one) Anyone run into this? Steve

I kept beating myself up because I know I lubed all lever contact points and fresh fluid. Yadda yadda . well what happened is that the lever was Binding up at the fulcrum. the point where there is a screww with a locknut on the bottom. i always over tighten stuff and by doing so with plenty of grease at the hinge the lever worked wonderfully. Well as the grease wore off the tightened hinge was causing more friction. i loosened the locknut and realized that the lever action was also tightening the bolt/Pin. i backed out the screw greased it all up and locktite the locknut. The nut is not squeezing the hinge point and the locknut will nut work itself loose with extra protection. tigtening that screw and nut too much will cause un needed friction and cause your brake lever to feel tight. Simple lesson learned.

I am trying to identify a bolt with a pivot pin in the center that allows it to hinge 90º either direction. What's it called? I can't seem to find them... Any help?

Does anyone know why all UK ventures are sold withont the neat hinge sticker so well photographed on the fronmt of the Clymer manual? I know you can order them for a silly price via Yamaha, just wondered if anyone has run there own up.

Saturday we removed the tank badge from Roxie, my '06 RTSD. I like how sleek it made her look. Someone said she looks like a panther. Mysterious, menacing, and sexy, that's her. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4013/4302465766_151b3e912f.jpg The most glaring thing to change now is the hinges. I know I can buy OEM chrome inserts, but I have restrained myself from adding flashy stuff. She is a midnight bike, and IMO is meant to be dark and threatening. Chrome there would be out of character. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4067/4304221436_505d4eecf9.jpg What are some options for replacing the hinge inserts with gloss black. Or better, like the original but saying Roxie instead of Tour Deluxe? Ideas? Dave

I have ridden the 04 to work the last two days here in Michigan. Great! I went to another place of business today and when I went to put my gloves in the saddle bag the hinge came off on one side. That made the lid real loose if ya no what I mean. I put it back down in place and latched it up. Got back to the shop and opened it up to take a look. Had to take the "material" part of the hinge off (4) screws to get to the inside. Sure enough the front screw was completely out and the rear one was real loose. I grabbed the loctite and put them back in. Opened up the other saddle bag and both screws were really loose also. Any way a 10 minute job and all is well. Just thought I would share so maybe you can take the time at home to check them out so it don't happen on the road. Have a great Easter weekend.
