Just got back from a trip that I had to don the rain suit 4 out of 4 days of riding. 3 of the days was not bad an hour maybe 2. Anyways the last day I just rolled the suit, and boots up and bungied them to the trunk rack as it was easier. When I got home I noticed that the heel of my rain boot has a tear in it. The ones I have now are maybe 5 yr old so close to replacement. They are the "spyder" type that have a complete sole. I am thinking about the Tourmaster or Nelson Rigg type. The cover just the toe and the heel is open. Can anyone tell me do these keep your feet dry with the heel being open? Are they a good rain cover? Looked at the Hopnel rain gaiters but the couple reviews didnt seem like the folks were very happy about the fastening methiod.

I've read some old posts about this subject but wonder if there is something newer I've missed. To use my brake pedal, I have to raise my foot up off the footboard which does not provide much control of the brake pressure being applied. This is because the pedal is too far back. I'd like to be able to keep my heel on the board and the only solution I see is to lengthen the pedal three or four inches. Anyone out there have a different solution?

The trip was great, see "whats in the bags" last thread. Clocked near 600 miles with the wife on back and plenty of extras. Lots of short runs and stops, great roads and scenes, and one place we gotta see for a full weekend, Medicine Park, OK- was only there long enough to eat and take a short walk but its worthy of a return trip. My wife was much more comfy than I through the entire trip, at points I could not control my own whining:( The bike performed flawlessly. My hipjoints are pinching hard, Im not liking the heel shifter at all, and even with pegs on the engine gaurd I have few choices to vary position- especially on the left side. I find my right foot far back on the board at times, usually in town. my left is rough because I cant just put my foot down, Im 6'3" and that heel shifter, if I get past it, other hard parts get into my calf- so Im kicking out coming to a stop and kicking up to roll out. Im gonna give some more time for the boards, but Im fairly sure the heel shifter is gonna go bye bye. Ive seen zero options for forward controls on 2nd gen RSVs, if anyone has info here please share. It seems there would have to be mods to intake? whatever all that stuff is below air filters... I love the Venture, but I want to make it MINE! Did I mention my wife loves it too:)

The heel toe shifter on my 83 is flopping around on the shaft. The hole in the aluminum shifter body has gone oval shape and it makes shifting less "secure" if that's the right word. Feels uncomfortable in that I'm not really sure I AM getting to the desired gear or if the shifter just moved under my foot. (I've rarely missed a shift...but you know what I mean.) Is installing a bushing something I can do myself? I don't really want to pay for an expensive machinist job! I am assuming I drill out the hole in the aluminum shifter to the outside diameter of a bushing that would fit tight over the shaft. What would stop the hole from wearing out again? Where does someone buy bushings?

I was going thru some of the gallery and saw that some of the 1st Gens have floor boards instead of pegs for the driver, was this an option that could be specail ordered with ROYAL pkg? Does any one have any or where can I look for some, also is there a rocker shifter {heel toe} that goes with this?

I really need to get rid of the heel portion of the shifter. I don't use, its in my way. Where can I find a single shifter for this '08 RSV?

Shifting w toe hard, heel easy
Sandbagger posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a 2000 RSV. Suddenly yesterday it was very difficult to downshift. Upshifting with my heel remained easy. Seemed to be easier to downshift if I was at lower speeds. After riding for several hours it worked back to normal. If it is a linkage issue any idea how I would adjust it? Doesn't seem that it would be an internal issue because I didn't feel or hear anything. Thanks for your thoughts. Bob -
I'll try to be as straight as i can to give you the facts. 2000 RSV. I rebuilt my clutch slave. Nothing wrong with it, but I was in the area. I took off the heel toe shifter and removed the floorboard to get to it. Changed my fluid. Reassembled. Did have to twist the floorboard around a little bit to get it back to the front position. Maybe I bent something. Maybe i shifted some adjustments a couple rotations but nothing severe I wouldn't think. I easily shifted into first and second. The heel/toe shifter was rotated up with the toe at a high point. Couldnt step on the heel and make it shift. Then realized that if I steped on the toe slightly I could then shift to the third, fourth gear. Unfortunately could only move back to the 2nd or third gear. I am not hearing or feeling any problems internally when I am shifting. The pedal action does not move properly. Would really appreciate some guidance. Bob

I have had my 08 Venture since May last year. It is the first bike I have had with a heel shift. The only advantage I see to the heel shift is that it saves wear and tear to the top of your left boot. I do not need to move my foot from its rest position to shift up if I use my toe, whereas I must move my leg back and lift it to get the heel on top of the shifter. So, my question(s): How many use the heel shifter? What advantages do you see to using it? Is it worth the effort to retrain myself to use this feature? Thanks for any thoughts.

Anyone know where a fella could pick up an inexpensive used shift lever for the 2nd gen? I need to pick one up so I can modify it by removing the rear heel part of the shifter. I did find a shop in the USA and all parts together costs $73 (bolt washer and cover) but they want $89 in shipping UPS.. nice.. never user UPS.. sigh. So.. if ya know where a lad can find such a part, used, grungy I don't care, let me know. Problem I have is that the inside seam of my left pant legs sometimes catches the heel part and I have the feeling of getting my leg caught up and not being able to free it in time to put my foot down when coming to a stop. I don't want to modify my existing shift lever just in case I injure my toe or what ever and will actually have to use the heel part for some dumb silly reason.. (No, I have never been able to get used to using the heel / toe shifting method...)

Hobbling around on my bad leg sometimes it don't come down right and causes me to be a little less stable than I used to be. Anyway going down some steps couple days ago and came down on it wrong. Jerked other foot backwards to catch myself and busted the pad on the bottom of my heel. The callus or whatever it is. Sure does make for a sore GOOD foot. I can walk if I walk on the heel of my bad one and the toes of my good one. I wobble but I ain't fell down. YET. I can't walk but I can ride if the weather would let me!!:crying: This probally don't make much sense but I got TWO sore feet now!!

I am just getting back into riding after a very long dry spell. I have bought a 96 Royal star tour classic. The problem that I have is that the heel toe shifter is not long enough for me to place my foot in between the heel and the toe. Therefore I have to place my foot outside of that area. The second is that there seems to be alot of play from left to right in the shifter. May because of wear since its a 96. Does anyone know of any after market toe shifters that will accomodate a size 12 boot? It also seems like the shifter is so close to the side of the roll bar that its hard to put your whole toe on top of the shifter. My thought was to take it to a shop and have it extended, maybe have them fill the hole with a weld (where it mounts on the shaft) and then redrill a new opening. Any comments? Thanks PJ

Does anyone have the single shift lever? I have the stock toe/heel lever but never use the heel end. I caught my rain pants on the heel end the other day and almost dumped. If anyone has a single and wants to change back to the toe/heel, I would be interested in a trade. Otherwise I will probably just cut off the heel end. BTW, this is for a 07 RSV. Also would be interested in a fuel cap cover and a cover for the rear of the fuel tank.

I just got my Kuryakyn Switchblade highway pegs. I like how adjustable they are, but there is one adjustment that I can't figure out: how do you stop them from spinning? The actual foot platform spins like on bearings. When I extend the heel rest, it swings down to point towards the ground. I don't see how the heel rest could be of any use. The pegs themselves are less supportive, since the turn so readily. Is there anyway to lock them in place at a particular angle? What am I missing?

Is it possible to adjust the angle of the shifter? I need the toe lower and the heel higher. I see an adjustment screw (?) just forward of the pivot point. Bike is new and have had some problems going in 1st past neutral when downshifting to a stop. I have also had an incident when shifting up using the heel shifter. The neutral problem makes me move the clutch handle out to help shift down to 1st (not a good feeling when sitting at a stop light). Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm putting this in the classifieds as well.. Parting out my old 83 VR.. Plastic is mostly shot Lots of other great parts.. Not interested in Ebaying stuff. I'm more interested in getting rid of most of the stuff rather than getting rich.. Backrest, Floorboards w/ heel toe shifter,TCI, very nice rear chrome and most all other misc parts. PM me , ask for what you need and we'll make a good deal... Clay

Anyone added the heel rests to their Kuryakyn highway pegs or other pegs? Wondered if some models work better than others and if the heel rest really does help make those long trips more comfortable? Any pictures of these work? Would a highway floor board work better than a peg with a heel rest ? Appreciate all feedback!

Does anybody know of a longer shifter for the RSV? One that's about 2" longer in the toe part and the same length in the heel part would be perfect. I'd even give up the heel portion to have the toe part about 2" longer. Smokee '07 RSV

I have been looking at these Heel rests for the passenger floorboards. A little pricey, but they seem like a good idea. I'm just not sure what they would look like. Does anyone have these on there bike? If so could you post a picture. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?action=detail&model_ID=42&Category_ID=6&manufacturer_ID=6&product_ID=7600&sblid_name=detail

This is a 1stGen issue, but it's gonna take a 2ndGen part to cure the problem.... OK guys, be nice.... The heel toe arm on the Ventureline H/T on my '91 has about 9" between the pads. Too small of a spread. the pads actually sit over the floorboard and don't extend past the board like a 2ndGen's. The 2ndGen's shifter arm has a 13" span. I'd like to see if I can adapt one off a 2nd to make room for my big foot. I think it might fit. So..... if anyone has a used pedal arm laying around they no longer need I'd like to buy it off you.... Thanks.

i was working out some of my other issues when i noticed that my heel toe shifter was working in reverse:rotf: this really is not funny i know because i think i already know what i have to do to fix. I took my stator case off to clean and polish, also to replace gasket and seal . I think what i done wrong was put it back together with shift linkage upside down, or is it possible that the external linkage just needs to be flipped? I am still hard at all the other work you fine people gave me to do:stirthepot: I will keep you posted cas things progress if i can stop doing things twice. Again thanks to all for your overwelming response kurt
