Came across an '87 Venture, and I'm toying with the idea of buying it. I would fix it up and then do a cross country trip. My last such trip was in '04 on an '02 Concours. - Is this an OK year for the Venture? - I'm OK with cleaning carbs, etc, but what else should I look out for? - Is 2nd gear a hazard on the 87 model? - Whats an OK price for an average '87 that's been sitting for a few years? - Are tires, parts, and so on reasonably available? Thanks!

So I've had my 99 RSV completely apart for the last month and a half doing a really nice restoration on it along with some mods thanks to the help of WillBill1 on here. Things are starting to come back together, just got back all my parts from paint. Today we were working on getting all of the electrical back together and adding the Harley License Plate Frame on the back and installing a passing light bar and lights up front. Here's the problem.... all of the Hazard lights seem to be working as they should, however when we go to use the turn indicators none of them work and the flasher unit make a buzzing noise. Everything else works, passing lights, running lights ect. We have checked and double checked all connections and they all look good. Before taking the bike apart everything worked fine. What do you guys think the problem could be? Please Help!! :confused24:

Need Advise: My parts source in Puyallup Wa did not have the Hazard SW nor the 41R Relay. So I'm into the wires. My turn signal and 4 way flashers are not working. I've cleaned all the related connectors and clean and tested the bulbs and sockets. 1) At the hazard sw connector the Bike side. When I turn the key on, I get power to the RED wire & Tan wire. When I use the turn signal for both turns still on the RED and TAN wires has power. Now I put the Hazard wire plug into the Bike end of the Hazard plug. 2) On the Hazard SW side of the plug the RED & TAN wires still has power. Inaddition the TAN/YELLOW wire now has power. Same when the Hazard SW is eithor ON or OFF. Nothing changes when I use the turn signals. 3) If I put the Hazard SW right in the middle of the OFF & ON, the TAN/YELLOW wire no longer has power. Just wondering what it would do. My knowledge of wireing is pretty basic. From this point I do not know what else to test for power. Any Suggestion.

A couple question for you guys who might know off the top of your heads. First, I'm replacing all my turn signal bulbs with LED's. So I need to change my old load resistor type flasher and hazard relays with new electronic relays. Do any of you know right off hand what the electronic equivalents to the FU257CD/NIPPONDENSO flasher relay and the FR-9H22/MITSUBA hazard relays are? Second, Will the self canceling unit still work as it should, or will it have to be replaced as well? If it will need to be replaced, what is its electronic equivalent? Its model/manufactures #'s are YH-001/MATSU****A. If this guy won't work properly after the LED conversion and there is no electronic equivalent, it's no big deal. I usually cancel the turn signal myself anyway. But it would be nice that it work as it should for those times when I forget to turn off the dang thing myself. Thanks, Bill P.S. I already remedied the flashing LED on the dash problem. I simply jumped the reed switches on the computer instead of going with those inline resistors. I was just to damn cheap.

Does anyone know if its possible to wire up Hazard warning lights on the Royal Star Venture. I've checked star accessories, but don't see any options within electrical. Has anyone managed to figure out how to perhaps get this feature wired on the bike ?

I just had complete turn signal failure after pulling both fairings off my bike. Trying to make sense of the poor quality black and white schematics in the manual, with the numberized components made me crazy flipping back and forth between pages. So I brought it into photoshop and colored the wires. It helped. I found the trouble was a brown wire on the harness that goes to the hazard switch had been pulled out of its plastic connector and did not not make contact when i plugged the quick disconnect back together. Thus it was if I left the switch between "hazard" and "off" positions. The terminal had some beginning oxidation so I applied dielectric grease to help. The signals work now, but the self canceling works 90% of the time, as sometimes i have to hold the left right selector to keep the signal going. I think the self-canceling unit has issues. So do most 20 year olds i know! Admin- move to another category if you wish!

Hey y'all. Has anyone ever moved the hazard light power from the "Run" to the "Acc" position of the keyswitch on their RSV? Here's my issue: I pick up my daughter at college and am not allowed to park my bike in the parking garages downtown (GRRR!!). So, I have to park in the no parking zone on the street like everyone else does anyway when they are picking up a passenger. Parking just long enough to pick up a passenger is allowed, but you gotta use your flashers. Anyway, I would like to be able to use my hazard flashers without having the head and tail lights on too, which happens in the "Run" key position. Any suggestions. Thanks. Rusty

Hi, I'm missing the hazard switch from my 84 Venture Royal, however after going over the wiring loom I can't find where the 5 pin plugs located, should it be on the right side or behind the headlamp? I've looked but I'm stumped, not sure if it's been cut off:detective: as there's no battery plug as well, that's also been cut off as I can see the white/red wire. If anyone's got one for sale with the right hand grill please let me know. Things get better, playing around under the dash and now, the onboard computer's not working, great. I've taken the clock off now and will give them a good going over.

I have a 1990 VR that I was getting ready for a nice road trip. Turned on the key and started checking all lights, turn signals, horn, etc. Everything functioned as it should until I tried the hazard lights. They always have functioned just fine in the past. Now, this time, they are "dead". Turn signals work just fine, front and back, both sides, but hazard lights won't come on at all. Anyone have an idea where to look to make repair ? I looked for a broken wire or loose plug in that maze behind the headlight. I checked the hazard light plug and switch. Where is the "flasher" located. Everything looks fine. HELP !!!! Thanks.
