Well I went & did it. I picked up the HF mini trailer yesterday. With coupons & sales it came to $143. I spent most of this afternoon putting it together & cursing Chinese manufacturing. In general the components are good. Some of the Bolts & nuts are not machined properly. I had to use my tap & die set waaayy too much today. Getting it squared was fun as well. Once everything was true I retightened eveything with my impact gun. (I will be stick welding it as well. Although it's sold as an 870lbs capacity trailer, it is rated at 1060 max load. My intention is to make this a multi use trailer (if needed). I can add a floor & sides to haul stuff, & I do have a 5/8 " steel U rail that can be placed on it to haul my VR in case of an emergency (get home short hop) since the VR is 911LBS. But for the most part it will be a tag along for me to pull behind my Gen1. Tomorrow I have fenders & wiring to do as well as add the 18cu ft rooftop cargo carrier. I aslo have the swivel hitch to mount on the VR. Here's where I stand so far. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=1121&pictureid=7122 Now I'M TIRED!!!! http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dbnCgEZBVp0/SaOx9_Rie1I/AAAAAAAAAec/YPQWJ4aKBkw/s320/tired+smiley.bmp.jpg

When I was shooting the Rusty Wallace Driving School this past weekend I also stayed and did a little walking around the pits of the Legend Racing Series. The engine they all have to use is a Yammi. They haul... Radar gun showed 98MPH on the small straights. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/Lengine.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/L19.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/L24.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/L13.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/CNONT/L8.jpg

Every so often the oil warning (bottom left) symbol comes on. It stays on for a while, then goes off. Sometimes it does it a couple of times in a row, then goes off. No particular pattern. There is plenty of oil in the sight window. I do know how to check it. Oil can be new or old. Driving fast or slow. Short haul or long haul. Level or hill. Once it goes off I may not see it again for weeks. The rest of my computer is working. I have two theories based on the best source - near total ignorance. Some kind of electrical connection issue working up on me, or an actual issue with the sensor/sendor. My understanding is this isn't an oil pressure sensor, but something else. What else I don't know. It works like my toilet bowl for all I know. Any clues or suggestions you can send my way much appreciated. Thanks Tom

I have an opportunity to purchase an 8x12 2010 enclosed trailer for $3k tomorrow. (distress sale, used once) Is this overkill on size to haul the Hannigan. What (I know, no one trailers their RSV) size trailer do you use?
-
I'm looking for a cargo trailer to haul my RSV in and just looking for some tips from people that have bought them. Things like "if I was to buy another one, I'd make sure it had..." I'd like it as light as possible, but also want something that's good quality as I plan on having it for a long time. Looks like Featherlight, Wells Cargo, and USCargo are out there...not sure which others. I'm sure I'll get flamed from people saying I should just ride the bike. But there are times when it'd be nice to haul the bike from ND to the south and then explore from there (like January when it's -30 degf)!

Here's a question just to see what the answers will be. Just curious. I do a good bit of riding and notice this alot. Why do riders of certain bikes(read-"American made") haul their bikes around on trailers or the back of pickups? Yea, I'm gonna stir it up now!!! Heh Heh Heh:duck::duck:

Well guys it is time for me to put my trike together, doc told me that my hip is no longer ingood enough shape to ride soooooo, all I need now is the controls on the handle bars. For those of you that didnt know I was in a head on colission with a Big Dodge pickup middle part of last yr.Hence the need for a trike. So if anyone has those things let me know and how much ya want for them. Sorry i havnt been on but its been a long haul back. Thanks agian .....Fred

:95:It's plan and simple folks. This is b/s and getting old fast. I'm still waiting for the first ride of the year. 3 or 4 days of rain coming and that creek is still up. I'm not sure if I can get the scoot out to make maint day if this keeps up. I'm calling Lowes to day to get a price on materials for a 12x16 shed to build at the camp. If I'm going to load the scoots up on the 16 ft trailer and haul them out it will only be one time. Any body else still waiting on the first ride of the year with the AC running?Might have a free camping spot for a shed raising party.

I found this forum last night, and am very impressed by everything I've found here. Looks like a great place, and wonderful helpful people. I just bought a new 2008 Venture yesterday, and hope to pick it up Tuesday after work. I have a 2002 Roadstar and love the bike so much, we're keeping it too. I'm a member of The Roadstar Riders forum on Delphi too... I've done a lot of work on that bike, lots of mods, and parts galore to make is as good a performing and long haul bike as possible, but it just didn't give us the comfort we were looking for. Great around town and shorter haul bike though. SO, that brings me to this bike, and forum. I was hoping that some of you could post to this thread giving me some of the best bang for the buck mods and or parts I can start off with to make this bike even more pleasurable than I'm sure it's going to be. Several things already in mind, but please add more ideas if you can... I will be making a hitch and installing it first thing for our trailer. I also know a driver backrest is high on the list, along with arm rests for the wife, racks for the tops of the bags, and other such things.. What brand tires do most people like on this bike? I normally run Metz tires. Is AIS removal highly recommended? What other performance clues can you give me? I know fork oil change is up there.. Yamaha always seemed to go light on things like that... I'm not familiar with the rear suspension, but is there a spring that is recommended to be changed? Any tips hints and clues are greatly appreciated and heeded... HOWDY ALL! Hope you don't get tired of me!

Checking out the kayak chat this morning and found this interesting trailer. They have an eight foot and a four foot tongue options. We have often joked about wanting to haul our kayaks behind our bikes... ahh the best of both worlds. Must say they are a bit spendy though. http://www.activitytrailer.com/

Ok guys, have a question about transporting a VR behind a 5th wheel RV. Does anyone make one of the bike lifts that mounts on the back of a motor coach for a 5th wheel RV?? When retirement gets here, want to become full time 5th wheeler and need something to haul the bike on. Trailer behind RV will put me overlength in a lot of states. Any ideas?? Don H.

I am seeking to find out the smallest trailer that will handle hauling a 86 VR. I am currently In Pa.. will be picking the bike up in South Ga. So also seeking info on the cheapest source of a trailer that will haul it and used does not bother me.. cheap is the key word. I am attempting to purchase this with the least amount of money since once I haul it back here and then back home in Oct. (southern Mississippi) I wont be using it very often. Thanks in advance.

I've decided to get an enclosed trailer to haul my bike and luggage and other items I take with me on the road. Any advice on which make, size, how many axels, v-nosed or regular. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Bob http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/5/5_2_110.gif http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb114&pp=ZN

I am thinking of getting a trailer that will haul two touring bikes. I lean towards an enclosed just because I don't like it being out in the elements and flying road debris if I'm not riding it. The trailer will also probably be used to haul the occaisional lumber or landscaping material. Could I get some opinions on Enclosed vs. Open, I should say it will only be used for the bike to get away in the winter or a longer trip to satisfy the wife. Does a stone guard really help protect the bike on the open trailers. If my wife had her way and we could afford it we would get a trailer with some type of sleeping quarters. She says we could use it for family camping even if we didn't take the bike. My thought on that is it would be rather large to head to Home Depot for lumber and I can only pull up to 5900 lbs with my SUV Any opinions/things to think about appreciated.
