I enjoy on occasion running my CB and chatting with some truckers, or even just listening in. Makes time go by. Problem is I get so much static. If I run the squelch setting up to stop static then the CB has to be within sight to talk or listen in. What is the range for these? I work with handheld radios that will talk 5 miles or more to each other. Just curious if possibly I have an antenna issue, or are they just like this?

I noticed that inside the black plastic box that protects the CB that there is a gray 1/4" (I think) plug that's not being used. Is this where a microphone could be plugged in instead of having to use the headset mic? I want to use a handheld mic for times when I don't wear my full face with mic and speakers. Thanks......

I posted this in the wanted to buy section but not getting any help so I will post it here I hope that is all right. I am looking to buy a 5 pin handheld mic that will plug into the 2nd Gen plug that sits on the gas tank. J&M use to make one but not anymore. I have been to 3 truck stops and the few 5 pin cb handheld mics they have do not match up and all the rest of the mic's are 4 pin. I would like to buy a handheld mic that works with the 2nd Gen or if someone has a model number of a handheld mic that they could give me I can Google it and buy a new one. Thanks Harry:puzzled:

I was wondering if anyone is using a handheld microphone for their CB radio. My friend has a Harley Ultra Classic with this setup and I like the way he is able to use a half-helmet with no headset. What experience have others had? If you are using a handheld mic, where did you get it? Can you provide a link? Thanks much!
