I recently purchased an 83 Yamaha Venture 1200. There were some minor issues to take care before riding, such as the slave cylinder was frozen, and the carbs were completely dirty. This bike sat for about a year, indoors. So my pops and I pulled the carbs off the bike and soaked each one for 24 hours in 2 different cleaners. We reassembled the carbs and reinstalled them back onto the bike. At first, I was getting a bit of popping and cracking coming up through the carbs into the air filter compartment. After riding it for a day or 2 and blowing out the carbs, the popping and cracking settled to just every once in awhile. So that part is taken care of for now. Another issue I am having is the onbaord computer is acting funny. The fuel guage goes up and down and sometimes shows empty with a full tank. The oil light comes on throwing a warning, and even the temperature guage is throwing a warning. All of this is intermintent and comes and goes. I know it has to be a wiring issues. However ... we did not mess with any of the wiring during our work on the carbs. All we did was unplug the battery cables at the battery terminals. Does anyone know what could be causing this malfunction of the onboard computer, to make it act goofy and throw warnings. Like I said ... it only does it every once in awhile. I would appreciate any real advise on this issue. Thanks JTJones

Stripping a 99 venture royale
RedRaptor22 posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I was gifted a 99 venture royale a few weeks ago by my wifes uncle and intended to just get it running and titled for two up riding since the Sv is'nt physically big enough to do it comfortably, but since I lost my job I have'nt the funds to do so and I really prefer minimalistic bikes I was thinking about stripping it naked to fund the repairs. So here are my questions, are the guages sealed well enough on the back side to use mounted to bars rather than buying a whole new tank and guages from a tour deluxe? Also has anyone removed the big huge air cleaners and radiator shrouds without the tank and airbox from a tour deluxe? Has anyone tried tucking some pod filters inside the steering head covers? I'm hoping to be able to fund this conversion by selling the parts already on the bike since I currently have no income, Thats what I did when I went naked and upgraded to a gsxr front end on the SV, can it be done cleanly with the venture? -
Need to sync the carbs on my 84 Venture. A friend of mine says he can sync them using 4 seperate vacuum guages http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoTools/MultiTesters/PRD~0251039P/Pro%2BVacuum-Pressure%2BTester.jsp (haven't bought them yet). This is more convenient then a Carbtune since I can find them locally. My question is how accurate will this be compared to carbtune or syncpro?

well got the carbs put back togther, we tried to sync them, did the left 2 carbs first, went fine, then did the other side, soon as I started the bike she sucked the mercury out of the manometer, I never did like the thing, but now where would the mercury end up, in the carbs?, mabye drop the oil? Now I am going to jcwhitney to buy some vacume guages.
