I've been trying to get the screw under the trunk latch of my I/S out, the sumbich ain't moving! Tried the regular screw driver, didn't work. Tried heating the nut beforehand, didn't work. Tried grinding a bigger slot in the head so i could get a BMF screwdriver in there, no luck. Tried grinding the sides of the screw down so I could get a wrench on there, didn't work either. Good morning everyone, My 08 RSV, having only 11K miles on it makes a horiffic grinding noise from the front brakes. I checked the pads and there is alot of brake left. Do I take the pads off and scuff them to remove the glaze? Or is there another problem I should be looking for? Thanks Frank

So I was riding home and about 50 mi or so from home I started noticing a klunk when i would go from on power to off power, figured i would check it out when i got home but the bike had other ideas, i was coming around a corner and let off the gas, got back on the throttle and nothing but a BAD grinding noise, the bike seems to go in and out of all gears just fine but no power to the wheel and a bad grinding noise if put into any gear when running, can anyone tell me what i might be up aginst before i start tearing this thing apart?

Was out to Big Dude's (Mike) house today to look at his grinder. He pulled a holeshot and when he went to grab second gear, he thought he missed it. Went to 3rd and it was there. Started making a grinding sound by the middle gear area, harrdly pulling itself down the road. Muffinman had him pull the final drive and driveshaft, all looks good. We pulled the middle gear cover off, cannot feel anything through there. Pulled the swingarm off and removed the output half of the pinion gear (which I thought would be gone) and it looked perfect. Pulled the clutch and could not find anything there. turning the inner clutch plate produced no grinding sounds. Dropped the oil pan, no extra materials in there. Before we disassembled everything, I started it and tried it myself. WIth clutch pulled in, no noise. As soon as you try to put it in gear, the grinding starts. As long as it's in gear, it will grind. Will hardly pull itself, even with my scrawny butt on it! I'm thinking we may have to pull the motor and split the cases to see whats going on in there, but any other opinions will be investigated first. Dan

Well heres another one. Im fearing the worst with this one. Sometimes when i go to start my bike ( 83 royal ) I get a grinding noise from the starter it sounds like two gears grinding together but not engaging all the way. Sort of like when a bendix goes out on a car starter and since these bikes dont have a bendix this cant be good. Has anyone experinced this. Im thinking maybe the starter clutch is bad. I have recently put in a new stator which frustrates me because now i may have to tear down that side of the engine again, which means ruining those new gaskets. when it grinds i let off the button and try again and it does'nt do it it works normal on the second try thanks for your help MATT

They would like to part with. I just ground mine down 1/4 inch. I have a nice lip on the outer edge on both sides. Never even knew it was bad, no noise or grinding. Brake pads go quick on the rear of these 2nd Gens. When you put miles / smiles on them........................................Ron

:confused24: Since the Venture and RSTD are close to the same with brakes, I put this in this section...When almost to a stop, brakes will make a deep rubbing noise that approaches a grinding sound. It don't notice it at higher speed. Any thoughts on this one would be nice. Jim

Folks, I ride an '03 Venture. After some work on the lower part of the engine (can you say new clutch) I noticed a "flat" spot at about 70mph where the engine feels like its grinding something up. it goes away and the normal "Mr. Smoothe" of my wonderful engine comes back. Anyone else get this feeling?
