1. Hello all. When I flew out of Guam in the 90s we always had a flyaway kit in the belly in case we broke down somewhere downrange. It included common items to get you back to home base without having to wait for parts, or get them from JAL, ANA, EVA etc. at a much higher price. Mechanics were abundant, parts not so much. The time is approaching for me to put this thing on the road, and I don't mean the 40 mile test rides I've been doing. I mean like you gen-you-wine over-the-road guys and gals. Getting older I'm not as Venture-ous or Venture-some as I once was, but if I'm not gonna ride long-haul... So with that in mind, I'd like to get an idea what y'all have in your flyaway kits. Tools, parts, fluids, BLTs. Was gonna post in the Watering Hole but more interested in 1st gen-specific stuff. But any info is appreciated. Richard
2. Who do I talk to about the temperature. Just so happen to need to flush my heater core today and we've got -1 for a high... So whoever you are.... Show yourself!!!! I was gonna scold old Flyinfool for the snow too but It looks like everyone's beaten me to that!
3. went through surgury n came out the other side in great shape. Still got pain n discomfort, but its already better. gonna start therapy today, that will b a long road ta hoe, was last time, but everything has worked great so far! been order'n parts for winter prodgits. Flanders handle bars, utopia backrest, highway pegs for passenger, new led lights for saddle bags. still have old I clutch basket from first 06, may put that in also, gonna grease driveshaft splines, swingarm, steering head bearings, want to do valve adjustment if i can find someone close with a tool n shims. Really look'n forward to been'n able to ride without pain. THANKS all for Prayers sent!!!
4. well I changed the front tire yesterday, I have an issue with the lift adapter. I couldn't get the holes to line up If I pushed the rod in from the right side (brake) through I could get three of 4 holes and missed the last one by half the diameter of the rod( Might have been able to force it) if I tried from the left (shifter) side I could only get two holes, no matter which way I moved the adapter around. Is there an adjustment (grinding one of the tabs) or is there a trick I'm missing? its funny I've had the adapter almost a year and haven't needed it till now. With the GF out of town was gonna fix tire last night (done) and detail the bike today (if I can figure this out) i'm gonna subscribe via instant alert so if anyone has an idea it'll shoot right to my phone.
5. Man! Don't know if any of you watched the national championship game last night, but Alabama was like men among boys. I'm an Arkansas Razorback fan, so we who are supporters of teams in the SEC kinda knew before hand what ND had coming to them. We've had to deal with Alabama's dominance for several years now. They aren't gonna stop either until Nick Saban gets out of there. Wish Cleveland or Philly would do us all a favor and throw stupid money at him get him to leave Bama. LOL.
6. Dingy stopped over for lunch!! Well, he had a hidden agenda, it seems as he bought the remains of s 2nd gen from a certain Canadian member, and another certain Canadian member brought the parts down to my place! I won't spoil the surprise but I will tell you it's gonna end up being a very nice 2nd gen!! Gary, it was great to see you again my friend, hope you and all the parts made it home OK!!!
7. Now that the International is behind me, gonna pack up taters and do a little riding today...We missed all the rides at the rally so we're gonna get them all in today............all of them:biker:
8. The trip was great, see "whats in the bags" last thread. Clocked near 600 miles with the wife on back and plenty of extras. Lots of short runs and stops, great roads and scenes, and one place we gotta see for a full weekend, Medicine Park, OK- was only there long enough to eat and take a short walk but its worthy of a return trip. My wife was much more comfy than I through the entire trip, at points I could not control my own whining:( The bike performed flawlessly. My hipjoints are pinching hard, Im not liking the heel shifter at all, and even with pegs on the engine gaurd I have few choices to vary position- especially on the left side. I find my right foot far back on the board at times, usually in town. my left is rough because I cant just put my foot down, Im 6'3" and that heel shifter, if I get past it, other hard parts get into my calf- so Im kicking out coming to a stop and kicking up to roll out. Im gonna give some more time for the boards, but Im fairly sure the heel shifter is gonna go bye bye. Ive seen zero options for forward controls on 2nd gen RSVs, if anyone has info here please share. It seems there would have to be mods to intake? whatever all that stuff is below air filters... I love the Venture, but I want to make it MINE! Did I mention my wife loves it too:)
9. Either this guy is really strong or this is gonna really hurt.
10. We bought a new home the other day. Should be done in August. It will be on the other side of the car. Gonna be a long summer. Brad
11. I think the best commercial was the Chevy commercial..poor Dave drove a Ford . Then the Doritos dog burying the cat ...gonna train my Rot to bury cats ....the Geico pig was good too .
12. Intend on taking a ride this Saturday 12/31/2011 (49 deg. & sunny) and Sunday 1/1/2012 (55 deg. chance of rain) . Will be a good way to end this year and ring in the new year... Besides the temps are gonna drop monday with a high of 34 ... You can guess whats gonna happen next. S%#W! %^$%&^%%&
13. Boomer and I are fixing to be heading out shortly for Blairsville, Ga. We'll be riding the Dragon tomorow, looks like it's gonna be a little chilly. Oh well, ready for the adventure.
14. If you like antiques, and have 20 minutes to spare, take a look at these videos. Unbelievable that someone could amass, or even find that much stuff in a lifetime... The auction is coming up next weekend. I just wanna know how they're gonna do it in 3 days??? Did you catch the '41 4-cylinder Indian?? 15. I know some will say, "why?". I've wanted one prior to getting the rstd and finally took the leap. Found an 07 w/abs with 35k miles. Any how, i'll try it and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out it's gonna be an rsv or gw. Part of me hates to part with the rstd....and I may or may not regret it, time will tell. Will post pics when I get home with it.
16. Ok, I'm gonna start chasing people. My daughter called me a week or so ago and asked me where I was going in such a hurry. Seems she had been following "my" bike on I-80 and was trying to catch up. Didn't happen. Thing was I was in the rack at the time but but walked out to the garage just to make sure. Nope....not mine. So in the last few days I have seen a nice Blonde MKII 4 times in Council Bluffs and Omaha ALWAYS going the other way either on the Interstate or a road I couldn't do a quick turn around on. Three time solo and the other day two up westbound on "L" street. So.... Bill W., was it you? I can't remember if your's was a Blonde or not. If not, I'm gonna snag us a new member pretty soon. 1st gens are pretty thin around here and ones in nice shape are even thinner. There is one I see quite a bit and it looks like he's added more duct tape every time I see it. Pretty soon it's going to be "that gray Venture". Anybody we know? Mike
17. Ok So i am jumpning feet in . The low end stumble when trying to take off , the hard starts in the summer while having to use full choke. And the long wait to warm up even in the summer is driving me nuits. The 96 rstc came with kromewerks aftermarket pipes and I doubt it was ever rejetted. I was planning on taking the carbs off and turning the pilot jets richer 1/2 to a full turn but was told by a friend if the carbs are gonna be off just step up the main jets one size larger. does anyone have any info on this . Is it a good idea and if so where do i get the jets and how do i know what size are in there now? I have a dose of seafoam now to see if this is the problem. i plan on doingthis labor day weekend so I want to get ready now.
18. Wife's cousin came across this. I couldn't resist. 94 goldwing with trailer. Excellent condition with a little over 50k on her. Looks like I'm gonna need a bigger garage.
19. Muffinman got the phone call friday we're gonna be grandparents. Our daughter's due Jan 7th and they are gonna have an ultrasound to tell whether we'll have a grandson or daughter. So now we'll be grand muffins. Hope the Pillsbury dough boy doesn't get mad. Margaret

Back home

We are back home from our 1500 mile trip to Florida. Lots of heat(it was 103 in Macon, Ga yesterday), and lots of smoke from those wildfires. Gonna enjoy my recliner and some AC for a bit. Ahhhhhhhh!
22. For those that missed MD thought you'd be interested in who got who this year. See the boss thought he was gonna get me, but he asked Big Tom to help him. So he kinda got himself. Nope no ice water or buckets involved just T-shirts. That's this year anyway. Wait for next year. Of course I'm not gonna be involved, I'm gonna be a good girl. Now to wait and see what actually happens. Margaret
23. Here's what I have. Angel didn't take very many this year. I'm gonna doc her pay.

Too HOT

Left this morning for a ride. It was nice weather...warm and comfortable. On the way home the last 100 miles were too hot to ride. At least it was too hot on the Valkyrie. Damn, that thing can put out some heat. I don't remember the Valk being so hot last year, but I'm sure it was. It was 96 by my patio thermometer when I got home. If this is how summer is gonna be I might only ride at night.
25. Picked up a new OEM rear shock for 400.00 and installed the leveling links someone very graciously gave to me today. I will never make the same mistakes again. Did you know if you don't put a jack in FRONT of the leveling links linkage you can't get that shock out for nothing? Nope, ain't gonna happen. Tried for 3 hours and my mind was becoming mush then I put jack where it needed to be and the shock just dropped out. Called it quits after getting shock in for the day putting everything back together but man that was a PITA. Going on Iron Butt ride this Sunday from Iowa to Hattiesburg Miss, then to New Orleans for a day. Then off to Panama City FL. From there were not sure if were going to North Carolina or Tenn. From there I want to try and make it to the Kentucky gathering on the 27th or 28th. Should be around a 3500-4000 mile ride all and all. Gonna have to get a little time in with the new shock and leveling links to get reacquainted to what a bike should feel like.
