I have a 2001 Yamaha Venture Royal Star with 114,000 miles on it. Today the bike quit on me and I determined that the battery is not being charged as the battery voltage does not increase past the 12vdc while revving the engine. I disconnected the cable from the rectifier and tested the diodes on all 3 pins and they check out fine according to documentation I found on this site. I also checked the 3 stator pins in the rectifier cable with the engine running and at idle they are around 25vac and when revved up they go to over 100vac. I am looking for input as to: · Are there other tests I could run? · If it is the generator would only the stator need replacing? · Do I need special tools to replace the stator? · Could it be the rectifier? · Something else I have not thought of? Thanks for any assistance, Lyle

I have a generator which runs on LP or NG. Can it be used on raw wellhead gas like we have run into the house for cooking and heat. We are filtering the water at the pipeline tap but still the gas has some water vapor. Is anybody doing or done this? Is it possible or should I stick with LP for the generator? The well is located on my property so we are the first customer and free gas.

So I've ruled out a 20 kw generator for I can do what I want with a 10 kw portable generator. I found a TriPower generator that has 3 independent fuel system (gas/propane/natural gas). I just spoke to a sales rep and he described the switching process from one fuel system to the other. One does not need to purchase any additonal generator accessory to do this. I currently have a 500 gal propane tank to just heat my home including hot water tank. It would be nice to have both source of fuel (Gas & Propane) I hope to purchase one before this coming fall. http://www.unitedgenerator.com/proddetail.php?prod=HPS12000HE So my general plan is to move all the 30/40/50 breakers from my main panel to a sub panel and feed the sub panel with say a 125 amp breaker from the main panel with a transfer box. Then move all my 15/20 amp breakers to a sub panel and feed it with a 100 amp breaker from the main panel with a transfer box. With power management I would think that I could power all my power needs during an emergency. Opinions welcome.

I'm in the Seattle/Tacoma area, and we are receiving a record amount of snow and Ice rain. So this morning I lost power. No Problem for I've wired my home to accomodiate a generator about 15 years ago. I have everything except for Range and Dryer for the generator puts out 30 amps. Now last year I had a new gas furnace/heat pump/electronic filter. I was told when the power goes out and being that I have a generator for power, all I have to do is set the furnace to EM Heat. This setting is to bypass the heat pump and only allow the heat to be operated by gas. I get power to the thermostat but the furnace does not kick in. Prior to the new furnace the old furnace worked on the generator just fine and the new furnace electricial system uses the same power source as the old furnace system. If any one has any suggestion please let me know.

This morning my power went out. Switched box over to the backup system diconecting from city provided power so not to conflict when city power comes back on. The generator engine started up just fine. Fliped the breaker switch one at a time. Then checked for power. No electricity. Hmmmm. double checked all my connections still no power. Brought a electric drill and pluged into one of the 110 outlets on he generator and no electricity. I do not know anything about generators. Is a Generic 5000 watt. Bought it new 15 years ago, always stored in a heated garage. Probably used is once or twice a year for maybe 10 hours each year. Anyone have any suggestions?

In anticipation of today's ice storm (thank goodness at our house it was not as bad as predicted!) I bought a 1200 watt generator to, if needed, power the natural gas fired central heating system at my son's house. The Coleman system is a 1995, 120VAC system that has no pilot light. To be sure we could count on it, I cut the furnace loose from the house power and hooked it up to the generator. When I turned it on it loaded the little generator, but according to the voltage meter on the generator it held 120 volts. The system ran about 30 seconds and I heard the generator unload. My 1st thought was it tripped the breaker on the generator, but that was not the case. I checked the furnace and the green LED, on the circuit board, was flashing rapidly. There is no code listed for that! I turned the power off to the furnace, waited about 15 seconds and turned it back on. The Green LED came on solid and that the little, what I think is called a purge fan, came on and ran about 20, or so, seconds. I heard the generator load up a little because of what I suspect was the ignitor coming on. This lasted about 5 seconds and then a click which I suspected was the gas valve being activated. With that every stopped and the green LED went to flashing rapidly again. I repeated this a couple of times with the same results. I thought well maybe the generator is not able to keep up and the voltage is dropping too low. It seems just the opposite to be the case. With the click that shuts down the furnace the volt meter on the generator "Jumps" up to about 130 or so. Any Ideas? I have not been able to find a tag that tells me what wattage the furnace should require. I would have thought starting the air handler fan would be the largest hurdle, but I have a similar fan from a long since dead system from our house, which I use as a shop fan in the summer. The little generator starts and runs it just fine.

Why do I have that feeling we will be using the generator alot this winter? We currently have 16,000 with no electric and I'm on generator. The winds should die down later tonight so maybe power company can get the tree's off the lines and line fuses reset.

I HAVE AN 2002 MIDNIGHT VENTURE . ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY BATTERY WENT OUT SO I WENT AND BOUGHT A NEW ONE . PUT IT IN AND STATED IT UP AND TOOK THE NEGATIVE CABLE OFF AND THE ENGINE STOPPED, PUT THE NEGATIVE CABLE BACK ON AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN AND RAN UNTIL I TOOK THE NEGATIVE CABLE OFF AND IT WENT DEAD AGAIN . CAN'T SEE WHERE I HAVE A SHORT BUT THINK THERE IS ONE , HAVE LOOKED AT IT UP AND DOWN AND CAN'T SEE ANYTHING, I THOUGHT THAT THE GENERATOR WOULD KEEP THE BIKE RUNNING, BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM TO ;STUMPED CAN YOU HELP? I'VE ALSO CHECKED ALL THE FUSES AS WELL... THANKS HARDRIDE:scared:

The wifie always gets cold and saw some heated clothing and gloves and the local leather shop. Now she thinks this the answer to her problem. Do these items really work or do I have to trailer a generator with welding cables to power them up? Thanks

how good is the electrical system on these bikes,,right now i have a lot of accent lights ,,a amp,,strobe lights,,with the driving lights and the radio on it takes a lot of power and since these bike have a generator and not an alternator how much can they take,,i have frends who have goldwings and they have compu-fire alternators, do they make anything for the ventures , i also have a capacitor for the amp so it does'nt draw alot of power from the bike when the bass hits from the bazooke tube, but the lights still dim,,

I am a new member though I have read the posts for quite some time. Like many other Venture riders I found out too late that the generator (stator) power out put on the '99 on Royal Star Venture is sadly lacking at only 406 watts. I ride a '05 Through research I came across Electrex World in the UK who manufacture generators. I know from reading the treads that someone had gone to Electrosport in the USA about a larger stator with out any luck. That post seems to have disappeared. Electrex World in the UK is the manufacturer and lists a generator G108 that fits the "Royalstar 1300, VMAX850, VMAX1200, XVZ1200, XVZ1300" as listed on their site I had thought it would fit and work on the RSV with a 30% increase in power alas it does not, I thought it was worth opening up the crankcase cover and have a look to see. As this is a major shortcoming of the Venture the following is a copy of an email I received today from Electrex World that may be of interest to the members on this forum. Hello David Sorry about the problem that you have encountered, there does indeed appear to be more than one size of generator. Of course, if you return the unit, we will refund you in full. If you are interested, we can make a prototype unit higher power than the original, but you would need to send your original stator as a pattern. Regards Peter Houghton Electrex World Limited Tel: **44 (0)1491 682369 Fax: **44(0)1491 682286 www.electrexworld.co.uk Registered in England & Wales Company No. 40306310 Registered Office address Unit 44 Vanalloys Business Park, Stoke Row, Oxfordshire. RG9 5QW VAT number GB 785 299 174 I replied saying my stator was not available but I would check the salvage yards here which I did, but none are available. The other option I mentioned to Peter is I would check with an owners group to see if there was anyone who did have one available and wanted to move forward on this. So here is the post
