Our FOE ride stopped at IHOP for breakfast in Gainesville, Ga this morning. The parking lot was packed and the only place I could find to park was to squeeze into a space with three other bikes already there. Two were 1st gens and the 3rd was a Virago. One of the first gens was a blonde MK1 83 and the other was an red/Marone 89 mk2. As I was landing my bike the riders were coming out to leave. So naturally I had to talk to them to see who they were. The rider of the 89 actually owned all three bikes. He told me that he had bought the 1st gens off craigs list locally. the 83 he said he had paid $750 for and was showing a few cracked plastic scars but was otherwise complete and running. The 89 was almost pristine with all the bells and whistles and he had only paid $850 for that one. They had never heard of this forum so I wrote it down for them and they said they were deffinately gonna check it out. While we talking they also told me about a benefit ride they had riden in the day before out of a bar in Gainesville. It evidently was a benefit ride for member of a local club that had Cancer. The ride was sponsored by two different local bike clubs and was an Police escorted ride with about 80 bikes. The bike owner was an EMT and was appalled at the nature of the ride and how dangerous it was even though it was Police escorted. He said the the ride fee included all the free beer and liquore you could drink. And by the time they pulled out most of the riders were pretty buzzed. At the rest stops there were free pitchers of beer so during the ride most of the riders were drunk and hot roding up and down the pack. all under Police ride control. It must have been a sight because several of other people we talked to in Gainesville not related to the ride were talking about it.
