  1. Just recieved my insurance renewal. Hard to believe They INCREASED it $200.00 over last years to $900.00 for the year. This is for $1,000,000.00 public liability ONLY .(No collision. No personal Injury. No loss). How in the world can they justify such legalized highway ROBBERY. And this is through RIDERS PLUS who are supposed to be motorcycle friendly. I am convinced that there is a secret agenda by the Government of Canada and the Insurance Companey's to rid the world of Motorcycles. Am I ticked off .....you bet I am. I think its long past due that All Motorcyclists launch a MAJOR PROTEST.
  2. Come into the Chat room. There are a few chairs left. We a very friendly. Yama Mama:smile5:
  3. When riding in the rain, it seems that on the 1st Gen, it was mostly the crotch of the jeans that got soaked. On a second gen without the wind blockers, the knee is the wettest. The Army has a saying, "If it ain't raining, then it ain't training." If we accept that and it's corollary as being true, then this four day bike ride has been an intense field training exercise. The Army has a neat system that allows you to track friendly vehicles in your area. The GPS on a motorcycle works the same way. That icon represents the friendly unit. Everybody else is out to get you. When it is raining and you stop at a hotel for the night, junk from the vending machine is almost as good as a fine meal you would have to ride to.
  4. :clap2:Beautiful Place, to dam hot, People are very friendly and very nice roads
  5. ...I must have missed it. What type coolant do most of you buy when replacing the old? I know it has to be "aluminum" friendly but what brand and where do you get it? I am about to change mine for the first time (for me).
  6. Couple of questions about the new unit: 1) With NavWeather, it shows you the current radar image. Does it indicate direction of storm movement and speed as well? 2) The Garmin website says it is NOT geocaching friendly. Just wondering if it can also be used on battery power for things like mountain biking routes, hiking routes, etc. Thanks for the info...JR
  7. I found this website today. I thought other campers may find it helpful. http://www.bikercamps.com/motorcycles-ride-lake-express-free-during-may-june It seems to have motorcycle friendly campsites across the country. Yama Mama
  8. This is funny... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH34xzIdY58&fmt=18]YouTube - Motorcycle Safety Ad[/ame] Probably not kid or work friendly.
  9. Hi The cost of getting the diamond R links sent to the UK is too high at present. Can anyone tell me if mild steel would work for these links. I have a friendly metal worker who can knock some up but needs to know which metal to use. Thanks
  10. Sorry - all in jest I assure you. FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, THIS IS MY 1,000TH POST ON THIS AMAZING, FANTASTIC, EDUCATIONAL, FRIENDLY WEB-SITE. What a wonderful way to waste away one's life!!
  11. Folks, I'm in New Orleans downtown this evening. Looking for a family friendly local-flavor jazz restaurant that is reasonably priced. Any New Orleans folks on here who could guide us to a good local spot? We have a car so can drive somewhere here too. Thanks
  12. A question was raised as to whether the Pork in the Pines was a child friendly event. Just want to reassure one and all that the Pork in the Pines is definately family and child friendly. We may get a bit loud, but never abusive... No naked dancing girls, drunken brawling, none of the BAB stuff (damn) Not that we're prudish or anything, but most of us are too old to partake of those kinds of activities any more. (Not that I ever did mind you. Pure straight arrow) So, if anyone was considering bring the kids along, please do so... Russell
  13. Just got the news today of the passing of a dear friend .Frank Flickinger's grandson called to let us know he passed away Sunday August 3 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was from Osceola, Iowa. Some of you may know him from the many rallies he attended wearing the colorful T-shirts that read My son is Vice President of Harley Davidson but I ride a Yamaha. Frank was very friendly and loved to talk about motorcycles. He never met a stranger. May you rest in peace my friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time. Allen & Patti
  14. Most store clerks I have talked with dont really know about GPS. So I could use a little help. I am 72yrs old and up until a small stroke a few yrs back I was fairly compitent with electronics. Now I have some problems...mostly memory. I dont want the super slab, quickest, shortest route to destination. I was wondering if there is a GPS system that can be programmed to give points of interest along the way between destinations? I would like to know if I am going to be passing within a couple of miles of the biggest ball of twine or if there is a scenic route less traveled? Is there a GPS system that offers that or anything close? Any suggestions on GPS Systems and user friendly systems as well would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Beautiful day today so I played hookie and decided to go for a ride, contacted one of our members, "Pilot" from Delaware and asked if he would be interested in getting together for lunch, he said he was free, so I headed the 130 miles to our meeting point. I had originally planned on treating him to lunch at a rest. but once I got down there he insisted on taking me back to his place and he fired up the grill, we sat around and swapped the bull had a great lunch and then he rode about an hr north with me on my ride home. Jim is a great guy and his wife treated me like family, it just amazes me how friendly the people are on this site, Arent alot of places in this world where you can contact a person you never met, get together for lunch swap a few stories and feel as though you connected. Thanks again Jim for your hospitality, and thanks Don for starting this group. Geez 20 more years of this, and I could be Lowell Jr. Craig
  16. My wife and I and 2 more couples want to visit Vermont, Adirondacks, Finger lakes, Burlington and possibly Mt. Washington in the last week of August. We're thinking about staying in Rutland, VT. We're thinking this area is central to the places we'd like to see and ride through. I'd appreciate any and all info, including places to stay that are biker friendly. Any additional suggestions would also be appreciated. We want to see as much as possible in the week we have to do it. Eddie Flinchum--Winchester, Ky.
  17. While vacationing in Ft. Myers Fl this week, I decided to go shopping for a new helmet today. I visited all of the area dealerships in my quest. BMW/Triumph/MV Agusta/Ducati, Yamaha/Suzuki/Honda, Kawasaki and Harley shop. After all of the visits I came away with a few impressions. The BMW shop was small the people generally friendly but somewhat looked down their nose at people not on one of their brands. They had very few helmets and all of their apparel seemed to be the BMW brand. Yamaha/Suzuki/Honda shop was huge and new. Very few helmets styles to try, just a lot of the same thing. No one seemed to care that I was there or not. Did not really feel welcomed there. The Kawasaki dealer seemed more into watercraft than bikes. There was a young guy there that came up to talk with me a bit and he was friendly enough. Once again, not many helmets to choose from. The Harley dealership was the most inviting. While they also didn't have the type of helmet I was looking for, they were very cordial and welcoming. I was approached several times by friendly staff seeking to help me. Not pushy, just wanting to make sure I was taken care of. There was a lot of activity in the store with staff moving about taking care of business. One gentlemen asked what type of bike I rode and when I told him he offered a compliment on the bike and didn't seem to think any less of me. Of course there were a few Harley owners around with the "Harley" look and maybe attitude. I must say, if I knew nothing about bikes and were shopping today for a new one the folks at the HD store would have had first crack at my business. And the new Harleys sure are pretty with all of the chrome shining. Still helmet shopping. Dennis
