Went for a 5 hour ride today and had the cruise control disengage 3 times after hitting very rough interstate patches. Top two cruise lights were flashing a 2 flash pattern. Had to turn cruise off and back on to get it working. Is this a known problem or something I can correct. Bob Marshall, il

The headlight indicator in the monitor on my 1983 XVZ12TK is always on when I use low-beam. The headlamp itself is on and it shines brightly, but the indicator in the monitor LCD is on and, of course, so is the flashing red LED. On high-beam, no problem. I want the red LED to warn me of real trouble. I don't want to become so accustomed to its flashing that I ignore it. So, I use high-beam all the time and crank the lamp down with the manual up-down knob to a reasonably level just to keep that annoying red LED from flashing. What I can't figure out is why this should be so. I've changed headlamps, and no change in behavior. If you have a clue, I'd love to hear it.

Just did the mod, as suggested i picked up both 1k and 2.2 k resistors. the instructions say one or the other will be the right one...??? does that have to do with the batteries power or ?. any way i went with the 2.2, got it hooked up turned the key and no computer icons or red flashing light just the display back lit. the bike still fired up normal. i wiggled some fuses and tried again and it worked normal. wiggled again and the problem was back. would using the 1k resistor instead do anything for this or is it just complete coincidence?

Well it happened again. First of all we have a good sized fire in our 'back yard', our neighbors ginseng straw covering caught fire from our garbage fire, cost was about $1000.00 for firetrucks and then some lots more for the ginseng equipment. Next Marca drives the Saab right into the back corner of this guy that cut her off,,, taught him a lesson for sure, but the insurance has decided to write the car off, but won't give me enough to buy me another one, so more money needed. This has been in the works for the last two weeks and I think they are getting a little fed up with me,,,,,,,,, SO NOW comes #3 Coming home today from picking up some meat, I approach the intersection just down the road from us. It is normally controlled by a stop light, you know the kind, when the one side shows red the other side is supposed to show green, and then some monkey switches them just as you approach???? well that's the kind of light we have here,,,,, except that the monkey went on a break, and so left the lights in the flashing mode,,,, some people might think the lights are broke at this point,,, but I know better, I've had to deal with this monkey before, and I've had a talk to the traffic department about him,, but so far, he's still got the job. And today, he took a break,,, right at 'rush hour' I mean, the intersection was full. So as I approached and noticed that he was monkeying around, I slowed down,, I didn't trust him, nor did I trust the drivers who were all trying to get home before the husband ate up all the goodies left over from last night. I was cautious all right, I was only doing about 30 kph or about 20 mph when I entered the intersection. I had flashing amber and the cross traffic had flashing red. Now when you have a flashing red, according to the rule book you must stop and proceed only when the way is clear,,,, but not today, because off to my left is a lady who decides that now it is her turn to go, so off she goes, pedal to the medal, (remember what her husband could be up to?) and so decides that since she is first she'll make it and I'll just have to stop!!!!!! but not today, the monkey is my witness, I tried to stop alright, but I got her attention real fast by doing serious damage to the front corner of her vehicle first. In the process the front of our meat van also suffered some damage that needs to be repaired,,, almost the whole front fell off, turns out it's all plastic,,, ouch,,,, almost like my bike. Now I wonder what the insurance company is going to say,,,,, bet they won't fool with me anymore,, it keeps getting bigger and more expensive. Everybody is Ok, just need to have a little body work on the front of my van, and the lady should buy a tank.

Almost got swacked twice yesterday. One from a lady that swerved into my lane and the other from a guy that just pulled out in front of me. How many lights do we need? I run with my high beams on in the daytime, but I'm thinking "flashing lights" or something especially in high traffic areas. Can you fix the front turn signals to flash on a RSTD? What is the best light setup? Thanks for any suggestions!

I have various reasons for wanting to do this...I want to install a off/on toggle switch so I can shut off my headlight when I feel like it..Has anyone done this? I was wondering if I did shut off the headlight would the red light start flashing and would the high and low beam icon also start flashing....

My turn signals seem to have developed a problem, or have had it and I just didn't realize it. They flash fine and all, but only when I hold the switch over. When I release it, they don't stay on, they cancel. It should stay flashing until the button is pushed in instead of to the side, correct? Any ideas on where to start searching?

Ok. I am having the problem with the headlight icon staying on my display, and getting the flashing red warning on my '83 Venture. I started out with the headlight, and the battery flashing, because I just put a new battery on, and the terrible whine in my speedometer. I did the 1k ohm resistor fix, and took care of the battery icon...great fix, thanks. I also removed the instrument panel and greased the speedo bushing with white lithium grease...works great...thanks. I then resoldered all of the connections for the big white connector, plus a few more cold joints that I found. After all of that, the only problem I still have, is the headlight icon, and flashing red light. All of my lights work fine. Any more Ideas, before I get out the schematic, and pick the bike apart wire by wire?

Getting bored with the cold I was reading some of the old threads about riding on gravel and different conditions. It reminded me of times we boarded ferries. The first time was in the U. P. in Mich at DeTour Village. We were going over to Drummond Island for a ride. The ramp takes some getting use to both driving on and off of the ferries especially if the are the big ones. "Ferries" that is. The next time was over by Boyne City Mich. We were riding along the south side of Lake Charlevoix heading toward Ironton. The GPS unit started flashing and warned that the road ends ahead. I thought what in the world does that mean, "road ends". As we toped the hill you could look down the other side and the GPS started flashing "Board Ferry" Sure enough we had to take the ferry across the south leg of Lake Charlevoix to continue on our way. It was a very nice ride it that area of Michigan. Thought I would share and find out has anyone had trouble boarding or Leaving a ferry? Looking forward to spring.

I have a new gel battery for my ride (83 venture) they said all I had to do was ground the wire for the warning light and it would stop flashing ,it doesn't .we even tried grounding to the battery and still it flashes ,can anyone help with this problem .

Has anyone ever noticed the warning light to start blinking when you are really cranking it up? I'm not over revving the motor, just winding her out through the gears to around 75-80 mph. As soon as I back off it stops flashing. The first time I saw it I thought my stand was coming down. Any suggestions? Thanks, P.S. it doesn't do it everytime

Hello there folks and fellow riders. I have another problem with my 1988 VR. Recently my battery warning light started flashing. My volt meter reads ok, but the warning light started flashing, then turned solid red. When I am driving at low speeds the light turns from solid red to flashing, then turns off. Once I increase my cruising speed it starts flashing again and then turns solid again. I don't experience any hard starting or battery draw. Helpful advise? Don (FREEBIRD) gave me advise on the CLASS system which helped immediately. Thank you:322:
