My ride from Seattle to Las Vegas is on. Needs some suggestions. 1) What bag fits nice on the rear trunk rack, and from the reads I found that 10 lbs is the recommended limit. 2) What bag fits nice on the passenger seat being that I'm riding single. I need this bag to fold flat so I can store it in the rear trunk for my wife will be traveling with me on the return ride from Las Vegas to Vacaville.

Charlene and I will both be going under the knife in the next few weeks. I will be having carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand and Charlene will be having it on both hands a couple of weeks apart. I had my right hand done in 2005, and now the left is really giving me fits when I try to use it for anything. I will be out of work for 6-8 weeks, but at the perfect time, the holidays...........

Okay, the wimpy factory horn has to go. Too many close calls. I know the riders here have changed to after markets. Which one fits the factory mount/location? And has anyone mounted a horn in a front forward location? Thanks in advance for you comment/recommendations.

While on vacation this past September, we encountered lunchbag letdown in some of the hotels we stayed at in regards to internet usage. Or in other words, we had to pay for internet time, while anyone with a wi-fi set up was good to go...FREE. You've already gathered I am of Scottish descent. Sooooo, we decided that we should purchase a laptop for our next vacation, amongst other uses. Time to pick your brains a bit, as I am also a wee bit lazy as well What size laptop fits in the trunk of a second gen? Is the trunk the best place to carry it, or in a saddlebag better? I seem to remember Kregerdoodle mentioning that a 15" is all that would fit in the trunk....I think...it seems like a lifetime ago that we were in Texas. Any experience with this out there? Thanks gunk:Laugh:

Changing coolant tonight, reviewing the coolant change tips etc. (Thanks for those). Did the complete drain including water pump, but did not want to remove the exhaust, Just not a fan of that. So started looking at it and what I had in my tool box and Bam! Serpentine belt tool. If you happen to have the one I have, its a Lisle if I remember correctly, and it comes with a set of three different size very shallow sockets and the end of the socket has a hex that fits into the flat bar for the serpentine belt. And yes it fits in from the side without removing the exhaust. Total depth of everything is less than an inch. One caveat is my particular set only comes with an 18mm socket (3/4" equivalent). It is a six point and fits well enough to remove the drain bolt. If you have an older bike with some miles or the coolant has never been changed in years and you suspect the drain bolt might be stuck ( after all its a steel bolt into aluminum), This might not work.My bike at 4 1/2 ears old and 16,000 miles, the bolt broke loose easily. I'll check and see if Lisle has a 17mm that fits my Serpentine belt tool. The tool comes with a drive adapter too so I could grind down a 17 mm socket to get it shallow enough to work in the future. I'll try and post a picture tomorrow. Getting too late. Having said all that, when I saw what came out of the water pump drain bolt, even having the ability to remove it easily, I probably wouldn't bother pulling it again. But for those who like to get out every last drop, but don't want to pull the exhaust, here's one way to do it. RSTDdog

Tech note: Just replaced the stock handlebars on my 06 RSTD with a Flanders bar that has a 2.5" longer pullback. I went through desert and swamp to find the right bar. Earlier on this forum I was advised that the Flanders G2 Road Glide was the ticket. Wrong ticket! The advisor must have assumed I ride a Venture, which the G2 fits. The narrow center dimension on the G2 is only 6", which is NOT wide enough for the RSTD speedo to fit. I first ordered the G2 and they sent one that fits a sorry HD. I returned it and they sent the G2 that fits a Venture, which I don't own. The proper bar for the Tour Deluxe is the H-Bar Wide Max Pullback, part # 650-08783, which I purchased at Phat Performance for $127. I returned the second G2 and got the H-Bar in return. While not inordinately difficult, the installation is a bit fussy and takes an hour and a half or so. I did NOT have to buy longer cables, but did have to re-route existing cables . . . which included pulling the tank for proper placement. I also added Kuryakyn ISO Grips, which add a sharp look and dampen vibrations. The difference is very noticeable. I can now sit against the backrest and not have my arms fully extended and shoulder joints pulled forward. Haven't taken any long trips yet, but driving around town feels much better. To reinforce for Tour Deluxe riders who want a longer pullback: it's Flanders H-Bar Wide Max Pullback, part # 650-08783.

Hello Everyone, I'm just about to become a new owner of a 2000 model XVZ1300A Yamaha Royal Venture Star. I'm already having some problems over here regards being able to get accessories for the bike. Its not very popular in this country and Yamaha Europe are beginning to discontinue the parts that I can see advertised from the star accessories web site. I am wondering if you can advise if there is a source for accessories for the bike in the US that would ship things to the UK........ These are the parts that I would be interested in getting for the bike. How many hammock hangers do we have? I am talking about the camping type with rain fly, underquilts Etc. I have been hiking and camping using a hammock for several years and plan on never going back to the ground while camping except in emergency. My 50 year old back loves me for it. Bigest advantage is: it all fits in my saddlebag.

Has anyone ever replaced the pull chain on a ceiling fan? It's the chain controlling the fan. It's broken off inside so there's nothing to attach another chain to. I know i've seen a small replacement part at Home Depot's but are they really standard and one size fits all?

I'm always looking for alternatives (for everything) as long as the item is as good or better than OEM, close to the same price or less and fits and works correctly... like my rear car tire. When I worked in Nissan parts I did some research and found the Nissan oil filters were a good replacement as far as fit, quality, bypass, etc. I used them on my Road Star and would have on the Venture if I was still there. I'm now at a Honda car dealer and I was going to use the Honda filter since it also fits but I found from researching it that they are made by Honeywell (FRAM) so I passed. (I will NOT use a Fram product) The Honda filters in the past (2-3 years ago) were made by Filtech and were tested as some of the best. We just got a stock order and Honda has gone back to Filtech filters. Just info if anyone is interested. Honda part# 15400-PLM-A01 (3 1/4" length) (15400-PLM-A02 is the Fram filters)

A guy at work was installing some Kuryakin Grips and broke the thingamajig that the throttle cable attaches to (no. 8 in the picture). I'm sure it wouldn't have to be from a V-Star, I think any that fits a 1" bar will work. Does anyone here have one?

I have the do-hicky that came withmy '06 Tour Deluxe to remove the plugs...is there supposed to be a wrench that somehow fits in the space in the cylinder to fit on the spark plug socket and actually turn the socket? The manual showsa pictureof something thin that fits into a hole in the side of the plug socket. ??????????????? Can somebody post a picture of what turns the plug socket that came with the bike?

Okay now. I have a fat head. Now I'm 6'5 and 275 so it fits me fine but it makes buying a helmet very hard. I have a full face HJC XXXL. It's the 2nd one and the 2nd fits no better than the 1st. The local dealer says this is the biggest helmet out here except for some really cheap $69 helmet that looks like crap in the pics. It comes in at either 4 or 5 X. Does anyone have this issue or know of any larger helmets on the market?
