I've been cleaning the new bike for some days now, completely stripped her down to get to all those little nooks & crannies. This is my 1st Yamaha, I've heard their paint is much thicker than other manufacturers & so far it seems it is true. I've always used Mer on my bikes as it cleans paint & chrome without scratching, but it really doesn't suit this paint & as she's black, the film left behind by it looks terrible. So I gave her a good T-Cut, which should have removed anything on there (pervious owner only used Mer) used Mer again, still had coating of film. So what do you all find best for your bikes??

I posted this in the Watering hole and it was moved to GoldWing section. But it works on ANY bike so I am reposting here. Remember, even if temporary this fix works, is free (with an old film strip) and can save you on a trip and save money as many have found the fix to work long term. Eck said some use an old credit card, but that is too thick IMO, stick with something very thin and flexible like a film strip. Here we go: My GoldWing developed a bad leak in the Right fork right before taking a trip to FL two weeks ago. If I had known of what I am going to tell you now, I could have saved a lot of mess. The only solution for leaky fork seals is a new seal...right? WRONG! There is a guy selling a special tool to clean and reseal those leaky seals, but if you have some old 35mm picture packs around, you can do it for free with a strip of 35mm film negative. Trust me, I did this and it works like a charm. Turns out the reason most seals leak is they get dirty from inside. If you take a strip of film negative (trim the "sprockets" off because they can break off, so the sides are smooth, and round the corners of one end) and after raising up the dust seal, slip the negative under the fork seal, keeping it tight to the fork tube. The film will go in the seal maybe 1/2" or so. Stop at that point and then carefully and slowly just slide the negative around the tube, keeping it mostly vertical with the tube. Do this about 2-3 times, just sliding it around the tube with it under the seal. Remove the film and wipe down the tube, and test it by bouncing. It should stay dry. If you notice any more oil, try it again. But it shouldn't need it. Like I said, my fork was squirting all over my bike while riding and while it was bouncing in a trailer on the way to FL. After getting back I found this solution on an 1800 site, and tried it and I now have about 150 miles on since the "fix" and my forks are bone dry. May not last forever, but the guy that I heard this from said he hasn't replaced a seal in many years. I need to replace the fluid in my fork, but if I had caught it sooner, I wouldn't have to do that. (edit, yes, there still IS oil in my fork to leak, but is isn't so far, over 200 miles and counting) Try it, all you have to loose is one film strip (make it one you don't care about!). __________________ Don Mallinson Washington IL

Been toying with the idea of a shorter windshield for awhile now since I didn't win the F4 with a vent. Already had gone to a short wide 13 1/2 " which I like but since it warming up so quick wanted to try a little shorter. So I dug out my old stock shield after reading some threads to day and wacked it off down to 10 1/2". Everything went as planned as far as the cutting and sanding but somethings I did notice. I used masking tape instead of the duct and after final cleanup I noticed that in several places where the masking tape was all the scratches were gone, assuming this had removed film on shield, but heck it was clear. So I took the scrap piece I cut off and reapplied masking tape even warmed with a heat gun trying to find away to remove the rest of the film but no luck. Then I used Meguires scratch x by hand and then with 6" buffer did reduce some of the haziness but not the film sure didn't make it any worse. Does anyone know of way to remove all of the film if I could do that i would have a clear shield. If it can't be removed has anyone added tint like to have it smoked out for the summer months. Think it will be fine for short trips this summer but going to be to much buffeting for the wife on the long hauls. But it looks cool.

In today’s world of digital photography, I miss the art of taking a good photograph. I miss the expectant wait for the developing process to see if what I think I saw is what I recorded on the film. I miss the rules that have been generated over years of trial and error that hold true today as well as they did 100 years ago, and don’t mean a thing in the electronic world... I guess I just miss the romance of shooting silver film. So I drag out the old Nikon F2, and fire the shutter a half dozen times, get my fix, put it back into it's camera bag, and slip my digital in my shirt pocket…

To any of you Trekies out there... In which series / episode did they go back to the original series - actually use OLD footage and insert themselves into the film to do whatever it was they were going to do? I just remember thinking how well they did it. Craigr

D. H. Lawrence's book. Not a bike related problem but I guess you are my only hope as I have tried every other avenue I can think of. I know how you get things sorted for our Ventures, so... Here goes: During the late 1970's and early 1980's the village I live in was used to film a four part mini series based on the book 'Sons and Lovers' by D.H. Lawrence. It was only ever shown in the UK once and that was shortly after completion, the rights etc were then passed over to Masterpiece Theatre over in the States and has been shown several times over there by them. Our village and people (including dogs) were used for the series and there are several local stories about the film, it is part of the fokelore of the area. But there is not a copy available in the UK. Just wondered if you good people out there knew where I could get hold of a copy of the series if indeed it exists.. Many thanks. Old Miner. Hope I have not put it in the wrong place. There are other versions, there is a film starring Vanessa Redgrave, and a more recent one starring Sarah Lancashire. There are other versions, most are readily available. Mini series of four episodes a joint venture between the BBC and Masterpiece Theatre: Sons and Lovers (D.H. Lawrence). 1981 15 May 1983 (USA) First Shown Trevor Griffiths adaptation. Starring: Eileen Atkins Tom Bell

Given the risk of injury we face as motorcycle riders, it is comforting to know the technology available to today's orthopedic surgeons. This is a great animated film. I just ruined my windshield
54chevybelair posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Today I cut down my stock windshield to 12". I was very happy with the height on my test ride, I looked through it but could still sit up higher and look over it for the rain. I then decided to try and buff the scratches out of it and it seems there is a film on it that I ruined. Now the shield is useless. Has anyone had any luck looking through the show chrome shield, is it clear enough. Kinda frustraited now, but I have no choice but to find a new shield. -
For years I used a Cannon AE-1 film camera that I have from 24mm to 405mm lenses. I took a lot of pictures and felt I had a great deal of control of the pictures I took. Now, I have an L110 Nikon digital that takes good pictures, but even with all the different settings the camera has, I feel I have very little control of the camera. It also frustrates me that the camera does not always respond instantly to when I push the button. I must admit that I like the immediate view of the taken picture and the ability to load the picture on my computer and view it and send it around the world very quickly and the ability to delete the picture without burning film. But, I am still not happy with the general use if the Nikon. I hate to kind of "dumb down" on my photographs, but that seems to be the trend on many of the digitals. Do others also have this problem? Ok, I finally got around to replacing my original wind screen on my '84 with a new one from Cee Bailey. Got one 2" shorter than stock for a better line of sight over the screen. I've been using Plexus all the time to fight the swirls in the old one but after riding several of my friends bikes I really liked NOT seeing anything in front of me. I like clear. Now I have clear. Ok, so what I'm up to is this. I'm cutting the old screen down, a lot, to be not much more that 6" to 8" higher than the top of the fairing. Real short for those really hot days on summer. Get a lil wind in the face kind of thing. I want to try to apply the window tint film on the inside. I've done several cars and vans with the kits so I'm pretty handy with the stuff. And cutting it that short I get rid of the compound curve so that should make it pretty easy. The question is......anybody know if there might be any weird reaction with the screen and the adhesive on the film? I've read the posts on the spray tints but want to try the film to make sure I keep an even appearance. My only concern with the film is keeping the edges bonded to the surface but that can be covered with some flexible trim along the top edge. Thanks for any imput. Mike

This is truly a video which should be retained for posterity so that our children, grandchildren, and Great grandchildren can be witness to and appreciate one of the most solemn and meaningful ceremonial gatherings in the annals of world history (the Civil War surrender ceremony notwithstanding) especially in the event that true history ceases to be taught in our schools. This is an actual film made of the surrender ceremony of the Japanese to MacArthur in Tokyo Bay in September 1945. Actual voice of the General. Never been shown to the general public before. We always saw the "stills" but never the film itself. The quality of the film is outstanding. http://enka2.netorage.com:9711/harddisk/user/lyk36/mumess/376-macarthurjap.htm http://enka2.netorage.com:9711/harddisk/user/lyk36/mumess/376-macarthurjap.htm

Check out this 10 minute trailer for an upcoming documentary about the PGR. I met these young film makers while at the memorial for the 4 murdered Lakewood Police Officers at the Tacoma Dome on 8 Dec 2009. This crew of young folks stayed with us as we stood a 10 hour Flag Line with tempertures never going above 25F. If this trailer is any indication of what the final product will be like, then it will be a documentary that will make the viewers proud and cause a tear or two. These film makers have earned my respect. silverdeer [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEeF77S9CbU]YouTube- The Patriot Guard Film[/ame]

Well I got in from our little town today and while I was there some film makers were in the town square..To my surprise they are remaking the film "True Grit" here and around Blanco,Texas. I guess one of the resons may be the connection with actress Shelly DuVall who lives here in Blanco..I guess thats whay they picked it?? Anyway I am going to find it hard to think that a remake will be better than the original...There just aint no other than John Wayne! http://www.blancocountynews.com/ Added this link for just a small bit of Info I found..Not much about it but states the Actors..Scroll down to "Hollywood comes to Blanco"

After picking up my 85 Royale In May one of the first things I noticed was that the windshield had been scratched along the top edge. There was also a film on the inside of the windshield i'm assuming was some kind of anti-glare film. It was deteriorating and flaking off. The previous owner I believe tried to remove the film with some kind of abrassive and had scratched the windshield in a three inch area along the top edge, right in my line of vision. A new windshield was going to be my firest repalcement part and several members had already pointed me to several on E-bay for about $75.00. While at Wally world yesterday I noticed a product called QUIXX repair system Acrylic Scrtach Remover. Part of me didn't believe it would work because my winshield was pretty clouded but for @$9 bucks i figured it wasn't much of a loss. I got to worK on it right away and tested it on a small part of the clouded area. The stuff is white and creamy and just seemed to smear into the plexiglass. The instructions say to rub it in hard.At first I don't think I was rubbing it in hard enough so I added a little more and rubbed harder. It seemed to be clearing. I spent the next hour slowly and firmly rubbing in compound in circular motions and watching the clouding get clearer and clearer using several more small applications of additional compound. The stuff never completely blended into the windshield and disappeared so i went to my old stand by all purpose cleaner Pledge Clean and shine with Orange. When I got done wiping off the Pledge and the residual cleaner I was shocked ! The windshield looked like new. The cloudiness was gone. A few of the deeper scratchs could be seen at an angle in the sun light but the general abrasive area was cleared. On top of that after cleaning out the cloth that come withthe kit I started to wipe the inside of the shield where the flaky film was and the wet cloth with a bit of the compound still in it started to remove the film as well.Several hours of work and a $9.00 box of Quixx and the windshield looks like new. I'll try to get some pix up later today. I regret i didn't think to take some before shots. I really didn't expect it to work so well. Phil.
