OK, I need confirmation on this from our friends up in Central Canada !! Yesterday, I was at a Ham Radio Convention, in SeaSide, Oregon. ( a yearly event ) I ran into a fellow from Calgary Canada ( An older fellow, as myself ). The discussion went to Gas Price's !!! ( much higher in Canada, he tells me ) My point, here, he say's a personnel friend of his works for one of the companies extracting Crude Oil, in the Oil sands area up there. ( North of Montana ) This fellow told him that the Cost of extracting the Crude from the Shale Sands, up there is about $25.00 a barrel, when the stuff is ready for shipping to Refineries. (( Of course there is no pipe line, so they send the stuff to China )) So, can any of our Canadian Friends, here confirm what this fellow told me. Being a fellow Ham Radio Operator, I tend to believe him. But, you never know, so I'm looking for any confirmation here, as to the cost of crude oil from Centeral Canada ??:whistling:

My friend JD Holbrooks and I just got back today from a trip that we planned back in December of last year. We rode just a few miles shy of 1,000 miles since last Friday evening. We had a good time and I really enjoyed the ride. I love my new Flanders bars and my Stainless cables. The bars seemed to be low at first here at the house on a short ride. So Thursday night I raised them and and left out Friday around 2 PM. They where just right and made a big difference for me. I also had the foam grip add ons over the grips. We got up around Lake Erie on Saturday and I took the foam grips that stretch over bar ends off. They where to beefy for me.They made my hands feel like they had to much in them. So then the rest of the trip was even better after that. We rode over into Michigan and down to Clearwater, Michigan and spent the night at a Holiday Inn Exp. A very nice hotel and tell Brittany Hi from me. Very very very clean hotel. Brittany was so nice and I had to call her back to find the hotel even with the GPS, we where both lost. Kinda hard to see and find. Right beside interstate 69 on the south side behind Ky Fried Chicken and a great big leafy tree blocking the only sign. I ran across a fellow on down in Indiana as we headed south. The fellow said he knew about the Venture Rider Site and that he knew a fellow back where he lived in Northern Michigan that had a 1st Gen and that he belonged here on the site ??????. Would have been smart for me to remember his name though, sorry. This fellow had two bikes, one he had bought for his ex-wife (Victory maybe) and another that he was pulling a pop up tent trailer with, a Harley. He worked with the company some selling the pop up tent motorcycle trailers. The square ones that keep you up off the ground. A nice trailer. MY Bike and Lake Erie.....My friend JD Holbrooks and his Harley RK.....Me and my bike and the lake. Ohio Rt 6 and Rt 2 along the lake and across the bay up around Port Clinton I think it was. The weather was really cool around Lake Erie. Michigan was just right but really really really dry. Indian north was hot and dry, south was nice. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Madison,Indiana last night. Nice, and very very clean hotel. Came home this morning. I rode in some of the flattest country I have ever rode in my life, Indiana cornfields for miles and miles. JD will lead sometimes, but 90% of the time I am leading because he wont do it. He does seem to get us lost easy, but who cares, where riding. Indiana Rt 3 South. I am so glad to be able to be back on the bike. I had some shoulder issues, hence the surgery, not to bad at all on the trip. I did Physical therapy while on this trip. I carried a big plastic coat hanger to do my therapy with. We had a great time. Good to be back riding. Fuzzy

Perhaps some of you know my friend Lumpy (Bill Kahley) suffered a bizarre motorcycle accident last September. He was riding his 1984 Venture, returning from a Ride-In in Indiana to his home in the Quad Cities, Illinois when it happened just a couple miles from his home. A lightning bolt struck the Interstate roadway directly in front of him, sending basketball sized chunks of pavement into Lumpy's face...at seventy miles per hour. He was severely injured and has spent the last 7 months in intensive care and rehabilitation. He is still in a skilled nursing/rehabilitation facility and in a wheelchair, although unable to maneuver himself. Some of his friends have started an online fundraising event to help defray the costs. Please consider contributing toward this worthy endeavor to help a fellow Venture rider (though not a VentureRider). Thank You. http://lumpy.bbnow.org/index.php Fundraiser for Lumpy lumpy.bbnow.org

Is there anyone in Athelstane, WI that can look at a 99 Venture for me? The fellow selling it seems to have issues getting pics uploaded, plus there is no substitute for someone to actually get there and have a look. We have a few days until the fellow gets back in town for Christmas, so theres no rush. Brian

I talked to my friend and fellow member John Gibson (Raceman62race) today who informed me he is now a member of that club that nobody want's to join but some of us are inducted to. The Rider Down Club. Evidently on the way home yesterday he was waiting at a light when a mini-van coming up on his right side tried to make a left turn, careened off a couple of vehicles before hitting him on his right side ejecting him off his bike and wipeing out the right side of his 2nd gen Venture. He is alright, relatively speaking, and did not break anything after hitting the ground hard. He said he was pretty sore and was on the way to his doctor for pain meds for bruised hip and side. John is a good friend and a super guy if you've met him. He thinks his bike may be totalled and I'm asking for your prayers and well wishes for his speedy recovery and bike settlement with the insurance company so he can be back riding on two wheels soon.

I've sold a set of floorboards to a fellow in Andrews, Texas, and I was wondering if one of the riders coming up to maintenance day in Ohio would mind taking them back to Texas and sticking them in the mail for me. Would save the fellow some $$$ in shipping charges, and he would get them that much sooner. Just floorboards, no mounting brackets. I could throw in a few bucks for gas if needed, and the money for the postage will be provided. gunk:hurts:

A number of my fellow PGR and Rolling Thunder riders are heading to DC on the 28th and come back the 31st. We will celebrate Memorial day and pay tribute to our fellow Vets. I've never been but I understand a few thousand bikes will be there. Hope Congress and the White House people are out of town; I wouldn't want to get s!!!! all over my bike; its a white one and it would really show. Hope everyone has a great Memorial weekend and don't forget to tell a vet "thanks".

just purchased leftover 2009 venture and have been gathering goodies to install. because of this great forum i have decided to install the vmax rear upgrade. i contacted john furber at his sportsmax company and discovered his business is located in catasauqua, pa just 20 minutes from my home town. we made plans to meet at his shop and discuss the upgrade. i had already removed the rear and since the bike has only 125 miles on her we used my rear and had the gears installed into it.i left the assembly this monday at 6:00 and it was done by the next afternoon. picked her up on wednesday and came home and put it all back together. while it was apart i installed the leveling links as it was a snap with no rear wheel in place. too late tonight to ride so tomorrow after work i will take her off the stand and see what she has. just want to recommend sportsmax and john furber to fellow venture riders, he has a passion for vmaxs and has opened his doors to us fellow venture riders...

I have a person ( John ) from north of Atlanta Ga. who is interested in my venture. Said he is buying it for fellow riders from france who enjoy riding first gens when in the US. He needs to find a way to get the bike home but does not have a trailer. Is there any fellow riders that might be able to help and get the bike to him. I maybe able to get it part of the way. This is early in the dealing right now and depends on how everything goes. The bike is licensed and insured, so riding it is possible. The only reason I'm bring this up on here is, this is where he found it so he must be a member or soon to be a member. Thanks nyjerry

It seems that a group of fellow VR members from Texas have seen fit to make me an honorary citizen of Texas. Now I not only have the key to the city of Athens TX, I also have an official Texas Passport. It came in the mail today. Guess this means they'll let me back whenever I want. Well that sure can't happen soon enough to suit me. Hope to make it back this winter for sure. Thanks Tom, Debbie and all the other fellow Texan VR members. See y'all soon eh!......now where did I put my 10 gallon hat???

Met Jerry, whose 2007 is ALMOST as pretty as my 2009. Nice to meet a fellow SoCal Venturer. Thought it was a HD from 1/4 mile back, then got next to him, gave a courtesy wave and SHOCK!! We puled into a Starbucks and enjoyed a cold one. Haven't seen another Venture on the road down here. Hope he sees this thread and responds... Kevin

Today we said our final good-byes to a fellow co-worker who passed away last Tuesday. She was only 30 years old and worked on my team. Vibrant happy and one heck of an officer who took no guff from anyone. She has left a hole in my shift that will be hard to replace. She was to be at work with us that day but had booked sick. We received the call early afternoon from another co-worker who said she was being taken to the hospital but not to worry as she was alert and talking with the attendents. By the time the ambulance got to the hospital she was gone. She had a blood clot that travelled from her leg to her lungs. Its a shame. See you Allison.

Well my friends it is that time of year again...No this isnt about Politics, but REAL HOPE. As I know winter is setting in for our fellow members up North. My Pledge to ALL of you is that I will unselfishly continue riding in our wonderful weather down here and YES,I will TRY and post many pictures so that Real HOPE will stay in your minds that yes one day the white stuff will leave your area and once again you can mount up and ride again. I thought of all this today as I rode to Llano,Texas and that area of our Hill Country As I was going over the Mountain that Overlooks LBJ lake a fellow Venture Rider,SapperMedic called and we arranged a meet in Marble Falls , Texas at the Bluebonnet Cafe. This was the first time I had met Brian and his wife Marsha. It was an Honor. Seeing all the other bikes there I just thought of ALL of you and had to share my message of HOPE! Tom
