  1. My '84 VR has turn signals and emergency flashers that work about 1/2 the time. Before I start tearing things apart, is this a common issue with the self cancelling feature on the signals? When the t/s won't work, neither will the 4-way flashers. The handlebar switch works freely. Anybody? Thanks
  2. Found this post over on the Delphi Goldwing II forum. Have not tried it, cannot vouch for it, just thought I would pass it along. Not sure I have a need for it here in Florida, but may do it just to check it out one day. Cross posted from GL1800Riders.com GL1800 Remote Starter Feature Being that it’s too cold to ride, I figured I’d take the Wing in for a checkup. While it was in the service department, I had a rare opportunity to hang out with the mechanic as he did the requested service and he shared with me a feature of the Wing that I never knew was there. He said he’s seen it on the ‘net but I never have so I thought I’d post it for those of you that don’t already know about it. The 1800 has a remote start feature that utilizes the remote key fob. Once it is programmed it works really well. Nice for those of us in the colder climates, the bike will be warmed up when I get to it. I won’t have to sit there and warm it up so it doesn’t stumble as I pull away. The mechanic said that Honda was planning on having it as a feature but with everyone being so lawsuit happy they backed away from having it in case a sensor switch went bad or something and allowed the bike to start in gear. (damned lawyers ruin everything) So, instead it is an “unsupported feature”. There is no warranty coverage on this feature, officially it doesn’t exist. Sort of like the opening ceremony option. Anyway, he did mine for me but I wrote down the program sequence to pass along. Here it is…. With the key in the LOCKED position and the trunk open, press the CALL button on the remote. When the horn sounds press UNLOCK.. Immediately press CALL again. When the horn sounds hit UNLOCK. Hit CALL one more time and as soon as the horn sounds, latch (close) the trunk and within 3 seconds turn the key to the ON position. When correctly completed, the CALL button becomes the REMOTE START button. Resetting the ECU or disconnecting the battery resets the CALL button to its previous function and the process will need to be repeated to make it work again. The bike must be on the center stand in neutral and the fork must be locked for this feature to work. Once the bike is running, you must insert your key and turn the ignition switch to ON before you take the bike off the center stand or it will immediately kill. Works great! Try it, you’ll like it.
  3. You will notice that I added back the "similar threads" feature that we had before the site upgrade. Let me know if this is a feature that you like or don't like. I can easily remove it if most of you find it more obtrusive than helpful.
  4. Hi all..new to the forum.I have a 09 Venture trike that I bought last fall.I have just got around to getting a set of Chatterbox headsets.I have the radio and cb working thru them . Now the newbie question. In order to use the intercom feature do I talk on a CB channel or is there a seperate setting for intercom? The book is useless in this regard. When I push the talk switch nothing happens unless I am in the CB setting. Thanks Dean:)
  5. BMW is a little pricey for me, but I could really use this feature on my RSV...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIy0e1p1fuI&feature=youtu.be
  6. In the upper right corner of every post there is the flags for country and state, and above that the name of the members city. Is it possible to make the city name a link that will open Mapquest or Google earth to make it quick and easy to find approximately where someone lives? This feature is on several other websites that I frequent and I find it handy. Most of us do not live in major cities that everyone knows.
  7. When I try to down load photos it won't let me because it says they are too large. Does this site have a feature that will allow me to down size them.
  8. I know a member can subscribe to forums, and search for posts by a specific member, but is there a way to actually subscribe to a member? Sort of like twitter: I could choose to subscribe to a member so that anything they post, I will be notified of it. Either in a PM or in a separate thread area for subscriptions I follow? I'm not referrring to adding 'friends'...just subscribing to articles posted by a member. I miss some postings by members that I would like to have seen...then I find them days, weeks, or months later. Some members post some really enjoyable articles. Just seems like it might be a handy feature to have. I'm guessing the admins already have that feature, to 'follow' certain members when desired. A limit of say, 5 or 10 subscriptions might help to keep it manageable. Thanks!
  9. I replaced my broken speedo cable, the good part is that I can now see how fast i am not going and the odometer works again ass well. Unfortunately the self cancel feature on the blinkers which used to work, does not! Any thoughts??
  10. I have borrowed a friends GPS and one thing I thought it would have is elevation. My son bought my grandson a GPS several years ago and it was pretty basic, but it had elevation for the location you were. Evidently, this Garmin does not have that feature. Do other GPS's have the elevation feature? RandyA
  11. Some time ago I read about someone changing the locking mechanism on their Piggybacker XL but can't seem to find the post. The cylinder on mine broke in half and fell out during vacation this year and I must come up with a replacement. The lock is probably the weakest feature of the trailer and I had planned to eventually replace it. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks! Don
  12. OK folks, you will likely notice that I am testing a new feature here. If you don't like it, just say so and it can go away quicker than it showed up. When you are posting a new message, the software will search for similar topics already posted before you submit your post. It basically works the same way as the current feature that shows a list of similar threads AFTER you post a new thread. This one will do it before you post though so that if your question has already been answered, you may find it before posting again. This should really help those of you who aren't so good at searching. It may be irritating to some though so let's try it and then let me hear your feedback. By the way, after you type your thread title and see the list of similar threads pop up, if you hover your mouse over each of the similar thread titles, a pop up will show you a summary of that post. Thanks Don
  13. Hi all, Normally I wouldn't bother suggesting some computer application or system feature that might impress me. I'm comfortable as a closet nerd over all. My inner Geek walks alone. However, I've been in on the beta for a new msn feature that just went in to public beta a while back that I thought my be of benefit to a good percentage of this crowed. Mainly for the several easy options for getting to your files while on the road. Its also fantastic if you have a lot of friends or family to share photos and stuff with. And completely free of charge. to avoid sounding like I'm out to sell it for them or something, I'll avoid any specifics. Besides, I let the geek go the next time I look up, we'll have half a tech support manual. He doesn't get out much. If you think you could use something like this, go out to mesh.com and look around and if you have a question, feel free to ask. Just helping where I can, Pain
  14. Hi, I find the big slobbery annimated smiley face immediately below the message text entry window very distracting while I type (I'm at work after all and its a dead giveaway to onlookers). Is there a 'Smiles [Less]' feature I could use to make it go away? Thanks for such a great site to share and learn about these great bikes. Best regards, Brian H. Uxbridge Ont.
  15. I just tried to search a specific subject (Rebuilding the clutch master cylinder) and got 500 results that all appeared to be unrelated. Making me wonder if search feature is working.
  16. Don, you at one time had put a link in a member's gallery to view the public profile. With all the recent changes, it seems to have disappeared. Would you please add that back in? I really liked that feature.
  17. I get a lot of curious looks and inquiries about this custom feature on my 87VR. I wish I could take credit for this but this unique feature was already installed when I got the bike. It is a very, very handy feature to have when you pull up some where to park and the ground is leaning the wrong way. I don't know about you but, my greatest fear riding an 87VR is not the speed or the weight, it's haveing it fall over on the lean stand then having to ask for help to pick it up. I've also had some fun with it when I'm at an event and I back into a row of left leaning custom bikes with my unremarkable 87VR then lean it to the right. I love to watch the crowd walk by and ignore the custom bikes and focus on my right side leaning bike.
  18. My youngest (VenturePirate) turned 10 this weekend and I turned 50. Geeze I'm getting old. A little basic training in the soft grass at the camp had him making laps around the track in no time. Wish they had machines like this when I was a kid. A nice feature I turned down the throttle limiter to it's slowest setting until skill level improves. Now to get fitted for a helmet and riding gear.
  19. Did we accidently loose this feature, or did we turn it off?
  20. The spedo cable came undone up behind the spedo. How to get at that darn thing? So. I looked it up using the advance search feature and wallah there I found how to do it. From start to finish maybe 20 minutes. Got to love it. One trick to try out - the nut holding the cable on to the spedo kept slipping down. Couldn't feed it up through the channel. So. I take some plastic tape, run a turn on two on the cable below the nut, and there it was when I wanted to screw it back in place. So. The search feature saved me from asking a question that had been answered already.
  21. One of my biggest concerns has always been that somebody posts a message and nobody responds at all. We get so many posts that it is easy for a new post to get pushed down the list pretty quickly and never get noticed. Most of our long time members understand that it can happen but for a new member especially, I just don't want them to feel unwelcome or ignored. So, I've added a new feature to the forum and if some of you can use it every once in a while, it would be helpful. Under the "Search" link in the top menu bar, there is now a link called "Unanswered Threads". Click on that and it will show you a list of new threads that nobody ever responded to. If you see one that is more than a day old, it would be nice to offer some type of response. Even if it's just something like, "Sorry, I don't know the answer but hopefully somebody will jump in soon with some help". At least they know that they are not being ignored AND it will bump it up again so that maybe somebody else will see it.
  22. Ok...here goes....dumb new owner question.....do the turn signals on the RSTD turn off automatically? It seems to me that sometimes they do, and sometimes they do not.....I could not find anything in the manual about it....is this a feature I have, but did not know about?
  23. I've added a new feature to the forum that some of you may find useful. When you click on the "search" link in the menu bar, you will now find an option to use "Google" to search the forum. I did this because there was a recent report where a member was looking for a specific thread about installing a Markland Hitch and it didn't come up in the search. Now I just experimented with this. If you use the normal search and enter "Markland Hitch Install", it returns about three threads. If you use the Google search it returns about 2 pages of threads. There is also an option there to search the entire Web or only the VentureRider forum. You WILL see some ads at the top and bottom of the search results pages. They should be related to your search though and just like the Google Ads on the side of the forum, I DO make a couple of penneys to help support the site if anybody sees one of interest and clicks on it. So.....I hope you find the new feature helpful.
  24. Today I was surfing at the chryslerminivan forum and noticed a feature button that I thought was nice to have. It is a "Thanks" button. So many wonderful people provide much needed information on Venturider site I thought it would be nice to have a thanks button here also. The minvan forum appears to use the same proggie as Venturider. Here is the link to show how they applied it. http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/showthread.php?t=2346 The button only shows up when you are logged in as a member next to the "Quote button". But the list of Thank You's shows even when not logged in.
  25. I have hundreds of bookmarks, and a lot of them are not visited for a years, but I don't want to toss them.. When I first started 'using', Netscape was my browser of choice, and it had a neat feature in the bookmark area. By clicking on the feature the browser would go thru the intire bookmark area and ping every bookmark and then mark all those websites that no longer responded for whatever reason. You could then go thru the list and delete those items that were marked. It was a great way to keep the bookmark file cleaned out. IE does not have that feature, and the bookmarks are piling up. Anyone know of an IE plugin validation tool that would work? I don't have the time or energy to click on each and every website listed.
