After 23 years we say goodbye to our old house. Its going to be different, considering we are only moving 1/2 mile away. Its going to be nice out here at the family farm again, but I am going to miss our old home. Lots of memories and 3 kids there. But we will make memories here as well.

Well the wife & I have decided to list the farm and move to town. Mixed emotions I guess. Babe has raised a cow herd here on the farm over the last 20 years, with all the cows having names & each with their own personality. Hard to take them to the cattle auction, but that's the reality of the cow business. I have lived here on the farm longer than any other place in my life. Lots of loves & fond memories of the 20 years here. It will be nice to open the garage door & ride the bike on cement or pavement without riding a mile & a half on dirt or mud. Lots more days able to ride without the worry of rain making the road to the house muddy! I will have to relearn to go into the house every time I need to make water. That will be harder than it might sound to you town guys, as here on the farm you just make water where ever you are. No more worries about the septic overflowing, the well quitting, the electric line losing connectivity, (as it did yesterday) or being snowbound for several days (2006). I will keep you posted.

Can anybody tell me what the heck this thing is and what it's for? I've been doing some cleaning out of old junk at my Father-in-law's farm and came across it. Thanks, Bill

I saw this in the local paper and thought of you Don. Please only use the weed eater by the pond from now on. Muffin say only the gas weed eater, no electric. N.C. man dies after lawn mower pins him in pond The Associated Press © August 31, 2010 CLEVELAND, N.C. A North Carolina man has died after a riding lawn mower pinned him underwater for almost half an hour. The Salisbury Post reported 53-year-old Genovevo Garcia of Cleveland drowned Monday at a farm where he was mowing grass along the edge of a pond. Farm owner Bill Russell says the mower tipped over and rolled into the water on top of Garcia. Russell says he saw Garcia fall into the pond and drove his four-wheeler over to the water to help. But he couldn't move the mower. Firefighters used a pulley system made of Russell's four-wheeler, a rope and a nearby tree to remove the mower. Garcia was pronounced dead at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Margaret

Those of you who know me from the chat room, know that I farm for a living. Mother nature has decided to make it extremely difficult for us in my area. We have been extremely wet for the last year and a half. Here a a few pictures that are kind of cool. The outfit that is stuck spreads fertilizer prior to seeding the ground. He got stuck in a sinkhole. The rest of the ground is fit for planting, It took us a full day to get him out, using a backhoe, and 2 4wd tractors. AINT FARMING FUN!

A guy i know was killed in a farm accident this weekend. Mike was 58 years old, he was caught in a grain bin and suffocated. It is a terrible tragedy, anybody who lives on, or grew up on a farm, knows how dangerous this can be. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Knoll family of Conde S.D. Mike was a good person, and had just taken delivery of a Harley trike last Friday. He took a quick spin down the road and back. His accident happened on saturday. Mike is survived by a wife, 3 daughters, and a Harley trike with 3 miles on it. At least he got to feel a little wind in his face. PEACE MIKE........

Just wondering if any of you live close to the Lexington, KY horse farm area. We rode with a group to that area about 5-6 years ago and just cruised some of the back roads and took in the beautiful horse farms (with barns that put most mansions to shame!). We also toured the Keeneland (?) race track. Anyway, I'm thinking of putting together a little ride for some friends (and anyone else who would want to meet up) this spring back to that area. When I was there before someone else was leading and I basically paid no attention to the routes we took. Anyone have any suggestions of roads/routes that we just shouldn't miss? Any other things we should see while we're there? Thanks, Joe

I just read this on another forum and thought it was interesting. I did do a 'whois' to verify the domain is owned by a David Mikkelson. Don't know if the story is true but it would not surprise me. Truth about SNOPES For the past few years _www.snopes.com_ (http://www.snopes.com/) has positioned itself, or others have labeled it, as the 'tell all final word' on any comment, claim and email. But for several years people tried to find out who exactly was behind _snopes.com_ (http://snopes.com/). Only recently did Wikipedia get to the bottom of it - kinda makes you wonder what they were hiding. Well, finally we know. It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators and researchers, no team of lawyers. It's just a mom-and-pop operation that began as a hobby. David and Barbara Mikkelson in the San Fernando Valley of California started the website about 13 years ago - and they have no formal background or experience in investigative research. After a few years it gained popularity believing it to be unbiased and neutral, but over the past couple of years people started asking questions who was behind it and did they have a selfish motivation? The reason for the questions - or skepticisms - is a result of _snopes.com _ (http://snopes.com/) claiming to have the bottom line facts to certain questions or issue when in fact they have been proven wrong. Also, there were criticisms the Mikkelsons were not really investigating and getting to the 'true' bottom of various issues. I can personally vouch for that complaint. A few months ago, when my State Farm agent, Bud Gregg, in Mandeville hoisted a political sign referencing Barack Obama and made a big splash across the internet, 'supposedly' the Mikkelsons' claim to have researched this issue before posting their findings on _snopes.com_ (http://snopes.com/) . In their statement they claimed the corporate office of State Farm pressured Gregg into taking down the sign, when in fact nothing of the sort ever took place. I personally contacted David Mikkelson (and he replied back to me) thinking he would want to get to the bottom of this, and I gave him Bud Gregg's contact phone numbers - and Bud was going to give him phone numbers to the big execs at State Farm in Illinois who would have been willing to speak with him about it. He never called Bud. In fact, I learned from Bud Gregg that no one from _snopes..com_ (http://snopes.com/) ever contacted anyone with State Farm. Yet, _snopes.com_ (http://snopes.com/) issued a statement as the 'final factual word' on the issue as if they did all their homework and got to the bottom of things - not! Then it has been learned the Mikkelsons are very Democrat and extremely liberal. As we all now know from this presidential election, liberals have a purpose agenda to discredit anything that appears to be conservative. There has been much criticism lately over the internet with people pointing out the Mikkelsons' liberalism revealing itself in their website findings. Gee, what a shock? So, I say this now to everyone who goes to _www.snopes.com_ (http://www.snopes.com/) to get what they think to be the bottom line facts...'proceed with caution.' Take what it says at face value and nothing more. Use it only to lead you to their references where you can link to and read the sources for yourself. Plus, you can always google a subject and do the research yourself. It now seems apparent that's all the Mikkelsons do. After all, I can personally vouch from my own experience for their 'not' fully looking into things.

To bring everyone who is interested up to speed, I have made a settlement with State Farm on my bike. I have kept the title of this post Hit & Run, even though after the woman was told there was a video of the event, she no longer denied hitting my bike. If you are interested in the whole saga, the other posts are at the bottom detailing the highs and lows. Even though she was charged with driving on a suspended license and improper backing while driving her boyfriend's F150 Ford pickup truck, State Farm took liability. I was a bit anxious when I met with the State Farm adjuster, but I was pleased that on several occasions, he stated that I had a real nice looking bike. He was impressed with the condition and especially the paint. I don't think he expected this when he came to look at a 25 year old Yamaha. I got a call last Tuesday from State Farm wanting to settle on the damage. The first thing the woman said was they had done some research on an 83 Yamaha Venture and determined the value was something over $3,000. That surprised me right from the start. She said they were not taking issue with any of the submitted estimates, but this did take the payoff to more than the value of the bike. She asked me if I wanted to keep the bike and I told her I hope so. She stated that an option would be for the bike to be totaled and me buy it back. She then stated that if I would sign a release and fax them a copy of my title, I could buy the bike back for $200 and she would take that out of the total and send me a check for $3,162. She also stated that they were not going to notify the state of Tennessee, so I would not get a "salvage" title. She said she would immediately process the claim. I went home during lunch and picked up my title and signed the release and faxed it back. By Friday, I had not received a check, so I called the woman and found that she had just left on a weeks vacation. I gave the woman that answered my claim number and she pulled it up on the computer and stated the fax had not been received. They have a fax system that is received on a computer and it sorts it according to the claim number. We ended up having to use a regular fax machine for her to have it in hand. She stated she would process it today. So, my plans are to take the fairings off and realign the upper frame and fix some plastic and get the worked areas repainted. I am also going to get the right bag painted on the outside and replace the left bag and paint it. I also need a right front signal light and will have to do some work on the plastic panels that hold the speakers, or replace them. I also plan on replacing my rear Avon tire with an Elite III and I am going to get a PC680 battery. I appreciate the interest expressed with my emotional highs and lows I have been dealing with and the encouragement. I feel a little guilty about how this has turned out, given others, such as Yammer Dan have been through so much crap. RandyA
