Hello all, I've got a 2005 Venture but was seriously considering stripping it down to just the saddlebags and windshield cruiser look of the deluxe. Has anyone done this that has photos or insight? The removal of the front fairing and trunk looks difficult but I'm not sure. Cheers for your time! Nice to have found you guys! Robb Reno, NV, U.S.

Hello all i'm looking for some help with my 87 venture. I recently took the bike down to the frame and now with most of the work done i'm rebuilding it but as i have discovered I am missing a lot of pieces (I didn't lose any they just didn't come with the bike) so now that i have all the fairing repaired i'm trying to put them back on the bike but when i got the bike all the fairing were zip-tied on so here are my two questions. What size bolts i need to put the fairings back? how dose the inner fairing(the one with the coolant overflow tank) attach to the bike? I know i should have took pictures of when i tore the bike down but you live and learn any pictures you guys have of how the fairings are attached would be appreciated Thanks in advance

Damn, I hate letting the dealer work on my bike. I prefer to do my own work. After some great tips here on how to replace my steering bearings, I thought it was a bit much for my knowledge base and tool box, so after a good deal from the dealer (350.00) I took it there. Three days later I go pick it up and WOW! What a difference. On the way home, I notice my modulator is not working, so I figure they moved the sensor under the tank. Upon further examination, the eye is where it should be, so now I figure they must have turned the switch off while it was apart. As I start looking, I grab the passing lamps and they move? They got about a half inch play in them. Go get a wrench to tighten and it's tight as hell, both of them. Sooooooo, I remove both bolts to find that neither one was in correctly, BOTH stripped, deep in the fork frame!!!! Damn damn. Once I split the faring, found indeed they had switched the modulator off and also ther is an electrical connection not plugged in and I have no idea where it goes too? The two holes for the passing lamps are totally stripped and is my supposed to be leaving for a. Two week trip to Fl next Tue. I do hope they take responsibility of it and fix it (just don't know how). I guess drill out the holes and install helicoils. It seems that the two brackets on the inner faring were too low and didn't allow the bolts to go in correctly so the mechanic just forced them. I cannot get them to raise and am afraid to crack the faring. I tried to pry them up a bit, but they hardly budge and it seems to,stress ihe faring. Damn, I'd hate to have to take the cage on vacation................... Just venting. Thanks

Rode 3 hours in the rain today. I actually enjoyed it...but then I'm a sick puppy. I enjoy riding period! CRUISE CONTROL WORKS! WOOOO HOOOO!!!! All it was was the hose came off the pump or whatever in the lower right faring. It does seem as if it drops about 7 mph from the "SET" speed before the cruise actually kicks in. I have to hold the Accel. to bring it back up to the desired speed./ Any thoughts on that?

I noticed yesterday my left lower faring is cracked. How it happened I haven't got a clue. Has this been a known problem? Would it be covered under warranty? If not does anyone have one or can this one be repaired? Thanks, Melvin

Hello I am in need of a set for my new project. I picked up 2 Ventures for parts one had been dumped and busted one side of the faring up not bad but more than a easy fix. I have been looking at it and thought it would be a waste to part it out if it ran so I put in some fresh gas oil and plugs and it started alittle more tunning and it runs great. So I took the faring off the other put on this one and took a test ride. Glad I gave it a chance to be on the road again but it is way to loud the guy I got it from did a real hack job on the mufflers. If I can find a pair of stock mufflers or some aftermarket ones that would finish it up except for its new coat of paint this winter. Thanks for any info. Orlin

My searching ability must really be lacking because I usually have a hard time finding past threads, etc on here when I try to search for a specific topic. Anyway, is there a write up or instructions on removing the inner faring? I have split mine many times, but I need to be able to move the inner faring forward a couple of inches to install new handlebar risers. I've got one that the threads are almost stripped out and I want to replace that sucker ASAP. As always, I really appreciate any help I can get.

First of all I apologize to Wally, and Tony for this triple post. Please delete it if it is a duplicate. I am in the process of parting my faring. I have it all dismantled except I can't figure out how to remove or if I have to remove the Passing Lamp mounting bracket that fastens using the two hex bolts. I don't even know what size they are and I don't know how to reach them because of the angle they are at. Is it necessary to remove these in order to drop the passing lamps down enough to remove the front faring piece? I'm stuck at this point and not sure how to proceed. If you have any comments or suggestions I would appreciate it. Thank you Chris in Red Deer, Alberta.

I just installed the 1.5 inch risers...I notice the rubber piece between the handle bars and the faring don't reach that high...so there's no rubber between the bars and the faring...is it necessary? And if so, where would I find some high density rubber like that to make an extension? Thanks! Mike

I am installing OEM passing lamps on a 2006 RSV. Everything had been going great. I am at the point where I mount the lamps to the bike and begin connecting the wires from the blinkers to the connections inside the faring. To my delight after I hooked up the left blinker - Black, Chocolate, and blue - then the right blinker, Black, Dark Green, and blue, to the wires inside the faring both blinkers worked, and the head light, high and low beam worked. I did not like the way I had brought a few of the wires into the faring so I disconnected the black wire, from the right blinker, and moved it around the mount bracket, and plugged it back in. I turned my bike on and now my head light will not come on and the lights on my dash board will not come on either but my blinkers work. Here is what I have checked; 1) Every fuse on the bike - none blown 2) Pulled the head lamp bulb out - still good 3) Disonnected all wires coming from the blinkers to the wires in the faring and made sure all connections were good. - still no head light I am at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated!

I am switching from the OEM grips to ISO grips from Kuryakin. Left side was a breeze. Is there any secret to accessing the screws on the throttle body housing? Seems like the faring is in the way of getting a screwdriver in there with leverage.

I'm sooo bummed. Was leaving for work this morning and for some idiotic reason decided to try a slow tight circle turn in my driveway. Wound up three quarters of the way through the turn and knew I couldn't stay on the driveway. I stopped, but was facing downhill. Tried to duck walk the bike across a corner of the driveway and lost my balance on the sloping soft gravel ground. Bike fell to the downhill side. Took me two hours to get it upright with a winch and back onto the blacktop driveway. Major gravel rash on the left side of the front faring. Then had to bleed the clutch because it was spongy (probably introduced some air into the line when the bike was "upside down"). I'm such an idiot! Oh, and my back aches from trying to manhandle the beast upright. Anyone know of an inexpensive black cherry front faring? Doh!

I guy about 2 miles from my house has a 1976 GL1000 Goldwing he will sell for $150.00. I looked at the bike and it has Vetter faring and hard bags. Faring and bags are white and rest of bike red. Has the chrome guard rails around the hard bags. Like a lot of people up here he lost his job and moved to a house with no garage. He has a 71 Harley and a 79 CX500 and no money or room to do anything with the wing. Bike has been setting outside under a plastic tarp. Engine is free (not frozen up) I has no idea that 76 also had a kick start on them. Lots of surface rust on chrome and winshied broken. Left front fork tube would need to be replaced. Would also make a great parts bike. If I had a garage I would buy it. But all he wants is $150.00 and someone to come and get it. If interested PM me and I will give you my phone number and answer your questions.

It's been a couple years since I removed the bodywork on my 87 VR and I'm just now putting the bike together. I wish I had taken photos while taking it apart but I didn't. I did bag and tag the nuts, bolts etc. In the bags for the body, front upper pieces (main faring pieces) I have one spring for each side. I don't remember where these go and I don't see the springs on the faring exploded parts view. Can anyone tell me where they should go? Thanks, Ron

I have just finished something that I thought I would every do. I split the faring on the Venture all by myself and put in the spliter to the AUX plug. I also took off the gas tank and ran the wires to the new Zumo 550 that Santa left me. I would never had tried this but with the instruction that Squidley posted on how to split the faring and install the splitter, it was a success. I also want to Thank Eck for putting up with all my p-mails about how to use and set up the Zumo. I am very glad that I found this site in December 2005. I have attended 2 maintenance days and already have reservations for this year. I may be rambling but you don't know how much this site means to me. I don't post alot but I visit daily. THANK YOU ALL,

I am getting ready to split the faring (first time by my self). I found the write up by Squidley expaining this is done and how to install the spilt audio cable so that I can install my new Zumo 550. My question is this, can I just tap into the electrical power behind the power outlet inside the faring for my GPS power or should I get the power from somewhere else? Thanks---
