  1. Has anyone used an aftermarket radiator fan that is more efficient; flows more air, etc? Any recommendations? Thanks, Richard in AZ 1988 VR
  2. I just took delivery on an '09 RSTD. It will fit in the garage with Yamaha GTS - you're a real Yamaha fan if you are familiar with a '93 - '94 GTS. Having been the owner of a V-MAX, I've always been a fan of the V-4, and I love the style of the Tour Deluxe and Venture and can't wait to get some serious seat time. I've already picked up some useful info from you all, so thanks for the site!
  3. Where is it located on a Gen2 anyone know?
  4. Before I start I want to run this past a few of you guys to see what you think, the first thing I am planing on doing is threading a temp sensor into the oil cooler adapter output side. Next put a DPDT switch in-between it and the water temp gauge with an LEDs to identify which sensor is currently doing the monitoring getting the use out of it for both water temp and oil temp. Next will be mounting the cooler in front of the radiator with a fan and a screen to try to protect everything from road damage. Next with the adapter I am planing on using has a built in thermostat which is set to open when the oil gets above 180 and close when the oil gets below 160 on the flow side that has already gone through the filter. A fan switch set at on at 180 also on the line leading to the cooler. I will be using stainless braid over PTFE lines with 8AN fittings for the oil lines to protect them from damage, lines should be good for a quite a few years. All bends will be handled by AN fittings so kinking the PTFE line won't happen, ok shouldn't.... This is going to be a Fall / Winter project and I would like to get as many kinks worked out before I start. I am due for a coolant and oil change anyways so I figure as long as I doing all that add it now.
  5. Was doing a carb sync last night getting ready for a day ride tomorrow and four day trip beginning next Thursday. Normally I can get the sync done quickly, but this time the motor ran a little bit longer than ususal and the "FAN" kicked on. I am sure it's been on before but never paid much attention. This time however there was a "Loud Rattleing' sound like something was loose or had fallen into the area of the FAN and was caught there. Is there an easy way to check this without tearing down the whole front, end. Lowers, Seat, Tank, etc. Of course I turned it off for about 5 minutes, Made sure oil and coolant were OK and started back up. Runs GREAT but of course this time the FAN did not cycle on? Thoughts Long Tall Lynchburg, VA
  6. The snow's gonna hit the fan that is. I'm looking for a sprocket for an old Dynamark snow blower I've had for a few years. It worked fine for the first couple seasons but then one of the chains started jumping off the sprocket. The sprocket in the picture is supposed to have a flange on both sides of the fork that is supposed to keep it from sliding side to side. But now one flange has been completely worn off and now the sprocket moves to far to the right and the chain jumps off. I hate to junk the thing simply because I can't find a new/used sprocket somewhere. I could re-engineer the thing a bit and it would probably be good until the rest of it fell apart. But a new sprocket would be easiest. Does anybody know anything about these? Would any collectors have one laying around? Even a part number would be handy. ANY info would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill
  7. Like many, I noticed my water temp gets very close to the redline before the fan kicks in. Once it does, it cools down nicely but I feel more comfortable with the fan coming on at a lower temperature. The thread for the switch is 16m x 1.5. Using that info, I did some searching. I found a good cheap alternative on ebay that switches on the fan significantly earlier than the stock one. The one I got was from a 1988 Chevy Sprint, part number Beck Arnley 201-1367. It is normally open. Opens @ 185 Deg. F; Closes @ 194 Deg. F Fits in with no problem and works like a charm. Fan comes on a lot more but the water temps don't get over half way up the temp gauge. It cost me 5 bucks plus shipping. Just cut off the connector and add a couple of flat, male connectors and they will fit right into the stock harness. 9. I want to add a single pushbutton that will override the fan sensor and run the cooling fan, but then reset when I start moving. I know how to wire up 3 relays to do a latch on fron a single press of a button and use a 12V trigger to reset it. I figure I can use the Turn signal cancel signal that will cancel the turn signals when you go above 25mph to reset my fan override. Does anyone know where that signal comes from and if it is 12 volts?
  10. well the fan is wired directly to ground. don't know why. but is there a way to test the system to find out why is there a relay and sensor in system if there is where should i look for them. read a thread that said to jumper sensor to make fan run. just don't know where to find it. trying to fix a bunch of problems so i can ride this parts bike.
  11. My fan is not working, I have isolated problem to the thermostat switch in the coolant tee. Anybody have a spare one ?? I need an 1st gen MKII version with 2 contacts on it. See attached picture. I can bypass it for now with a switch. Gary
  12. I have a 2004 second gen. and had replaced temp sensor last summer, however, on today's ride, the fan is not kicking on when it should. Can a toggle switch be installed to kick the fan in manually? Any suggestions as to why this is happening and what to do to remedy?
  13. A Tennessee fan walks into a restaurant and sits next to an Auburn fan with a Auburn hat & t-shirt on. He says to the fan, "A-U-B-U-R-N, what does that stand for?" The Auburn fan replies, "Alabama Usually Beats Us 'Round November." He turns to the Tennessee fan, sees UT on his hat and says, "What does UT stand for?" The Tennessee fan replies, "Us Too."
  14. Done a few things to the new girl the last few days , one carb #1 was leaking checked it out and the screw for draining the carb was loose so hopfully that will be ok, then i had leak in the radiater so dug into that the fan was rubbing somewhere back a time took the other one off my parts bike my1990 put that on so all is fine for now, then put new plugs in, cold up here with rain so all wait awhile to go for ride to check things out. Who has those washers for sale here for the carbs to get better gas milage ? my other bike is a 1993 same as the 90 even same color.Oh yes put two washer in the fan bolts to have more room, so that wont rub again so you guys with the 1st Gen fix that it will save you in the end. 73 Yooper

  16. i Here in Florida I take out the thermostat on my trucks and cars no nee for heat and that's really the only use for one in a car. But what about a 1999 1300 Venture will it effect fan etc... or nothing?????
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSRVqsx9nG0&feature=youtu.be A co-worker made this and posted it on YouTube. If your a Jaguars fan you will understand it. Gene Smith is our general manager. Still funny as hell.
  18. I own a 07 RSTD with 21K and I'm trying to compare some of the bikes features with past bikes I have owned. It seems like I do not hear my cooling fan run, or it is real quiet. I also have never seen the temp light on either. On my last bike which was a VTX 1800 you could definitely hear and feel the fan moving air when it would come on. I live in South Florida and the fan would come on any time you spent much time stopped and also when I would pull it into the garage and leave the ignition on.
  19. In the market for a Tablet. These are new to me, so to say I'm confused. Currently I have Droid Thunderbolt and love it. Never been an Apple fan, though I never owned any of their products. Any help will be appreciated. TIA, BEER30
  20. OK guys so I'm feeling a little dumb here. I started hearing this screeching noise at random times and I thought it was my cooling fan. Sooooooooo..... After taking off the radiator and removing the fan, cleaning and lubing all that I could and reasmbled everything, who knew the problem would still exist. Shortly after this, the spedometer started jumping all over the place and I found the problem was the speedometer. Ive got it off the bike and I've lubed it up. Unfortunately, I think I may be to late. I found lots of metal shavings inside and once I hooked everything back up, my odometer works great but the spedometer does not move at all. Can anyone shed some light on how this thing operates exactly? I'm not sure how it works and am wondering if something in there got ground off or something. As far as I can see, it all still seems to be there as as I mentioned, After lubing it up, the noise is gone and the odometer rolls over fine. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!! Jay:D
  21. Trying to hook in a bypass switch for the cooling fan before buttoning her back up. I've put a splice in both the black and blue wire going to the fan but am not sure which one to connect to ground and which one to the battery. Would I need a inline fuse and if so what size? Thanks.
  22. Last night I had the VR idling (fast- 2000) for about 20 minutes while I fiddled with the headlight alignment and it boiled over. It has idled for longer than that in the past without boiling. The outside temp was about 66F so was probably not a factor. Could not hear the fan going so that is likely the cause of the problem. Did not find anything in the Tech Library and the search will not accept fan as a keyword so anything in particular I should know about troubleshooting this issue?
  23. To my knowledge, my cooling fan has never activated. Is it just not getting hot enough or is there a malfuntion? How can you test it? Thanks
  24. I hope there is an easy answer to an easy question. What is the normal water temp of an RSV? At what temp should the fan come on? Thanks all:bowdown: KB
  25. hey guys i found this tip but not able to contact the writer to see if it worked or not? " Overheating Solution Just want to pass a tip to Venture owners who have an overheating problem, especially in cities on hot days. I bought a 1983 Venture Royale which probably had two or three owners. One of them connected the t-fan to a manual switch which I thought was a good idea. But the temp needle would almost jump to red, even with the fan on. My problem is now solved. I took the tstat out and also found that the fan switch was incorrectly connected to the fan. Instead of bringing air to the engine it would run inversed and push the air through the radiator. Imagine! Now the needle never goes more than halfway on the temp gauge and with the fan on it will go down to just over 1/4. Please pass this message on the V-folks as it might help someone out with heating problems. Keep up the good work and thanks. Norman Rémillard " now my question is is it ok or not to run it without the thermo and do it this way, reason im looking and asking is,i live in st.pete florida always hot and in town stop and go traffic the gauge gets way up there 3/4 and a hair above if i sit to long with no real airflow,so i already have my fan switch hooked up so i can turn on for sure when needed, but what about it? no thermo make it run cooler or not? thnx in advance for any and all help. troy
