I know this isn't the perfect forum for this, but it will work. I have a garage FULL of 1st gen parts, and I need to thin it out drastically. I will be posting pics in the classifieds, but wanted to give a heads up to the 1st gen folks. Here are a few of the body parts I have... Left side upper fairing, fair condition Couple of front fenders, fair to good condition 2 sets of MKI saddlebags, 1 with key for locks, 1 without key, Good shape Trunk for '85 and base, Fair condition 3 seats, 2 in fair shape, 1 in not so good 2 faux tank covers 1 pair of engine side panels, fair to good condition 5 factory stereos all work, including the cassette players, fair to good condition 1 CLASS pump compressor assembly, works well I could go on, but you get the drift. If anyone is looking for oddball parts, I have a got of inner plastic parts, fenderwells and such. If your looking for something shoot me a PM, or if you want to buy the lot of misc parts, we can do that too.

Please join me in welcoming Ad Custom Chrome to the list of vendors who offer us a discount. Brian manufactures the carb covers for the RSV and RSTD. I had to give this one some serious thought because we already have a long time member here, slowrollwv, who makes and sells the carb covers and also twinky covers. Brian understood my hesitation and desire to be fair about this and offered the solution that he would not market the smooth finish covers here but only the ball milled and custom engraved covers that slowrollwv is not selling. I think that was very fair of him. He seems like a great guy and I have no problem welcoming him to our family. I am getting my '87 ready to roll and I've decided to do all the electronics different than stock, so I will be removing CB, cables, cassette/radio, amplifier, rear CB control unit. I didn't have the helmet units to make the intercom work and I don't care to mess with trying to make the factory set up work. I don't know what this stuff is worth but reading other threads I understand it goes for a fair amount on fleabay. But since you all are in the club I am offering it to all of you. Make me a fair offer on what you need and I'm sure we can come to terms. Email works great for me: deanmay at pianorebuilders dot com. Hey there everybody. A few weeks ago I bought a beater '84 Venture Royale. After riding it a bit I found I like ed it an awful lot. Got to looking around and found my new bike. I drove 350 miles each way on my hunch after talking to the owner and looking at a very blurry picture. Here is my new ride. 23,500 on the odometer. The carbs seem a little sluggish, hopefully Sea Foam will clear them up. Runs fair, but idles real low. This is what it looks like without my touching it. Everything works as it should. I'll register it when I get back from my OTR trip this week.

I hired a friend to do some dry wall for me this winter in his spare time. He is a rascal and will only give me his hours and not his hourly rate. He is an engineer who normally does large project management of hospitals colleges etc. but is between jobs right now. Its a little bit like hiring a doctor to give first aid. I'd like to pay him a fair amount but not engineer rates. What would a fair amount per hour be in a small town in Midwest Iowa? Tim Lantz

What factors influenced your decision to buy your Venture or RSTD. I wanted a HD Ultra but the pocket book said no way..... Then I found the RSTD's and it had all the equipment I wanted at the time at a fair price, how could I refuse.

Got back from Pontiac Car club Car Show in Simcoe Ontario last night with a third place win with my 2000 Roadstar Silverado -out of 6 bike entered in show,There were 4 sport bikes and a on/off road like scooter which was chopped and lowered.Got fair judging I think as I didn't think I would even got a second look competing against the more popular Sport Bikes that everyone usually likes.

Neighbor is in the biz of selling different vehicles types includes bikes. From most of my talks with him alot of what he sells are bank repos. I can say he is (or was) handling a sell of a former colts player recently so not of it is repo's. He has a stock '04 Midnight w/ 17k and is asked if I thought 7k is a fair asking price. I haven't seen it and plan on it this week, but from what he says it is in good shape nothing major and any surface scratches can be buffed out. To me, I think it seems like a fair price. With this economy, not sure if it will move that quickly though. I just checked kbb and it shows retail $9210 & trade in $6440. Not sure what nada or black book lists it for.

The stock pipes came a few days before I left for Sturgis. I took off the Bubs and installed the factory pipes. The job took 4 hours, should have been easier but it wasn't the stock pipes didn't want to fit. Getting the Bubs ready to ship I noticed some surface rust spots on the bottoms near the seams. It was not noticeable when I took the pictures but the removed pipes were not pristine near the seams and there were rust spots that appeared to be from rock strikes. It was time to leave for Sturgis on that day I mailed back the Bub pipes. Now the trade partner wants me to pay all return shipping on both sets of pipes. I am not going to do that but I WANT TO BE FAIR ALSO. So Ruffy and Big Tom maybe it was best I didn't trade with you. Any ideas

Just drained the rear Hypo oil and there was milk in the oil. It was changed in March and about 7000 miles ago. I went on a rideabout to Omaha-Dallas-Charlotte and rode in a fair amount of rain but not terrible. What seals do you think are failing? The bike has 131,300 miles.

Well it's not exactly the Dark Side - but the new Gold Wing tyre size is close to a lot of car sizes and might JUST be the largest you can fit on a first gen, at 160/80x16, but it also might be too wide. Has anybody tried fitting one ? It has an 80H load rating which is a fair bit higher than the 77H of the heaviest duty 140/90x16 tyres - and as I'll be pulling a trailer tent on the bike and sidecar on the German autobahns, I'll be putting a fair load on the tyre in hot weather. Has anybody any experience on this ? I hope so because I need to splash out on another tyre in the next week or so to be ready to travel.

Fairings For those of you who are interested in history, here's where the word "Fairing" comes from. Early in the development of aviation, it was realized that the important thing for an airplane was to have a lot of lift and very little drag. An enormous amount of drag happens if you lose laminar flow - that is, if instead of smoothly following the surfaces on the airplane, when the air breaks away from the surface it will form spinning vortices which tumble around and wreck the airflow all over the place. This is called turbulence. The exact same problem was known from laying out the keels of ships, for water flow around a ship hull is a lot like air flow around the skin of an airplane. This problem was analyzed by mathematicians. They learned something: they could predict the points at which the air flow (or water flow) would break away from the surface and start to become turbulent. A curve which has no breaks in it is called "Continuous" by mathematicians. A curve which has no sharp corners in it is called "smooth" by mathematicians. Smooth means the first derivative of the curve is continuous. At any given point, a curve has a radius of curvature. If there are no sudden jumps in the radius of curvature, the curve is called "Fair." A Fair curve has a continuous second derivative. It was learned that turbulent flow always starts at a point on the skin where the curve has an abrupt change in the radius of curvature, that is a point where the curve is not fair, or a point where the second derivative is discontinuous. So, you can't just stick a wing onto an airplane fuselage - the sharp corner where they meet is not even smooth, much less fair. The designers found they had to locate places like this on the aircraft skin and cover them with some smoothly curved sheet metal. I jumped out of one of these once, and it was working just fine at the time. In the '70's, when gas mileage became important, automotive companies quickly hired some aircraft designers to help them make their cars have less drag. Shortly after that, the automotive companies started putting pressure on the computer programmers to make certain that all the curves on an automotive body were fair. Some companies became quite obsessed with this: honda at one point announced that they had determined that surfaces which had a continuous fifth derivative were most pleasing to the eye, so they wanted their cad/cam systems to only design curves which were smooth, fair, and also had three more levels of derivative continuity. I don't think they got very far, as very few programmers can handle the mathematics of c5 continuous surfaces. Of course, until about 1970, there basically was no such thing as computer aided design. To lay out the curves for the hulls of ships and large bombers, boeing many years ago built a building with an unbroken wooden floor which was bigger than a football field. They would clear this building, and draw a coordinate graph on the floor. Then, the designers would tell them exact points where they wanted the hull skin or aircraft skin to be. The engineers would hammer nails into the floor at these points. They would then take very long, very thin strips of oak, soak them in water, and tie the oak strips to the nails. The oak will naturally form a shape of least energy, which happily enough is a shape which is both smooth and fair. The engineers would wait for the oak to dry, then trace the lines on the floor of the building. This then became the master drawing for the bulkheads. The thin strips of wet oak were called "splines," which is why today curves in mcdraw and autocad are called splines, although essentially none of the programmers know this either. Most of our bombers and battleships in WW II were laid out in this building, because this was what we had. In General Relativity, Einstein assumed that the universe itself was curved, but in a smooth and fair fashion. His reasoning: anything else would have been mathematically ugly, and he didn't believe God did ugly things. Since then, several people have made alternative theories of gravity where the universe does not have to be smooth and fair. None of them have worked worth beans, however. It seems God does in fact have a sense of aesthetics. Later, it was pointed out to Einstein that his theory included the possibility of points where the universe was neither smooth nor fair. These points are called singularities, or more popularly black holes. Not all scientists believe in black holes, and Einstein was skeptical.

I have two tan seats for my 2000 MM Venture. One is stock set and the other is a corbin seat without a backrest. The Stock is in excellent condition with 13,000 miles and the corbin is in good to fair condition - not sure of miles. I have the opportunity to buy a corbin seat and backrest that are like new. So, what would be a fair price to ask for these seats? Thanks!

First off, I'm a newbie considering the purchase of a 1st gen. Venture. I am glad to have found this site! I've been lurking for a week or so and it's well worth the effort to become a member. So...... No doubt this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it by a search. I'm looking at a 1987 Venture that is in Great condition. 30k miles and everything works including the radio and CB. It is a very nice bike. If I could get it for $2,200, would that be a fair price?

Question for the board. I have the oportunity to purchase an original style seat for my 2003 Midnight Venture. I currently have the corbin seat (came with the bike). What would be a fair and reasonable price for this seat. It appears to be in excelent condition.
