This is at least two states that have said no to the Slingshot. Texas also gave it the thumbs down. I think it's ridiculous but I wonder what it means for the future of this trike? I hope they get it worked out. There's not one in our immediate future but Eileen really wants one. Connecticut DMV says no to Polaris Slingshot | Fox News

I am GLAD that this day is over. I got up at 4:00 a.m. this morning to take the boat out on Lake Erie for a few relaxing hours of yellow perch fishing. They really were NOT biting. Temps got up to about 96 F and me and my buddy John cooked in the sun for about 6 hours and only caught about 15 fish. Got home and cleaned up because Eileen and I were going to a friends house for a little get together. She asked us to bring our Ipod because it has some good music on it. Got there and the Ipod locked up right off. Wouldn't power off or do anything. So....it was down for the night. Headed home and around midnight, hit a good sized deer in my new to me Chevy Avalanche. Took out the grill and messed up the right front fender a bit. Will look at it closer tomorrow but I guess it could have been worse. At least we weren't on the bike. Got home around 12:30. Eileen had taken her little YAP YAP Sheltie with us. Got home and she took off across the yard barking and our larger dog running along right behind her to see what all the fuss was about. That ended up with BOTH of them getting sprayed by a skunk. So...we have been outside until 1:00 in the morning washing two mutts. I'm going to bet now. I hope the bed doesn't fall down.

Eileen want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who came to Maintenance Day this year. We love doing this and our reward is seeing everybody having a nice time. That is all it is about. It was great spending time with old friends and familiar faces and always great meeting new people. As usual, you were all a class act. The numbers were down a bit this year but we still had a fantastic crowd. I think I made a mistake this year when I moved it forward by a week. A lot of folks had graduations and etc. to attend. We were not at all disappointed in the turnout but there were some of our regulars that we truly missed. I will try next year to move it to the middle of June again. A special thanks to all who jumped in and helped with the Maintenance activities. I simply could not do this without your help. I know that Skydoc truly missed having V7Goose around as well as Squidley and a couple others who usually jump in and help. Also, a special thanks to all the ladies who help Eileen get the food arranged and served and maintaining some sense of order to things. It was another successful weekend that Eileen and I both agree went by way too quick. We are already looking forward to next year. Well, at least we will be after a good nights sleep.

As some of you know, I haven't posted as much over the last few weeks as I normally do. There is just way too much going on right now and it just seems that there are not enough hours in the day. Hopefully things will get back to normal in the near future but until then, I apologize that I'm not doing more here. As those of you who attended the Cody rally know, Eileen and I ended up cancelling the trip. We were really looking forward to it because due to my own illness over the past 3 years and other family illnesses before then, we have not done a decent bike ride in several years. I sometimes feel that we should just give up and sell the bike. I'm NOT going to do that though and will just hope that next year is finally back to normal. Whatever normal is now. Some of you know that Eileen lost her mother and her sister to cancer over the past 5 years. She took care of both of them during their illness and in fact we had built the little guest house so that her sister could live out here beside us and Eileen could take care of her and spend time with her while allowing Connie to retain some of her independence. It was a very difficult time for Eileen but she did well and it was something that she had to do. Almost immediately after Connie passed away, we found that Eileen's mother also had cancer. It wasn't as emotionally draining but still bad and then she passed away about a year later. Then of course I had my own ordeal wth the nasty disease that the intitial treatments and then complications last summer pretty much took away two more years of any real riding. We though that this summer would be ours again. It was not to be though. We find out a while back that Eileen's sister in law, her brothers wife that lives in Dallas, has cancer. This is the only adult member left in Eileen's family and Dolores is more like a sister than a sister-in-law to her. She has spent the past months going through all the usual treatments and then various clinical trials but basically, nothing worked. Eileen ended up going to Dallas during the time that we were scheduled to be in Cody so we had to cancel that trip. Then we had planned to go to Vogel or Big Tom's WNY rally this weekend but that's not happening either. Dolores has made a turn for the worse and they have basically given up on any treatments. She was in the hospital last week while they tried to stabilize her and basically just make her more comfortable. She is back home now and it is just a matter of time. Probably only a few days. It's really sad because this lady is only about 48 years old and has always been very health conscious. So, Eileen is flying to Dallas again tomorrow in order to be there to help her as much as she can and basically just spend a few final days with her. It is going to be a very difficult time for Eileen as well as her brother in Dallas and their two sons. The sons are older now, 19 and 22 I think but still taking it very hard. There is nothing that anybody can do but I simply ask that you keep Eileen in your thoughts and prayers and that Dolores will find some comfort and peace in her final days. Again, I apologize that we have been MIA from all the regular events this summer but hopefully things will be better next year.

Well Dan and I made it back to south Ga about 1:30 this afternoon(Monday). We drove up in one day but took 2 to come back. Stopped off and saw a couple of sites along the way. Had a great time for the 2 days we were at Don's. Learned a lot about the bikes and the people that ride the bikes!I'd like to echo what a lot of others have already said. Thanks to Don and his wife Eileen for putting up with this crazy group of friends, brothers, and sisters. You are all the greatest!! I enjoyed meeting as many of you as I did. I hope we can all do this again next year.

I've been thinking about MD this year. Last year Don and Eileen ordered food for the whole gang that came. I know they had the jar out and I think Don said it came out even for him. But since he's going through this treatment for cancer I have been thinking maybe we can take care of the food this year. All of us can pay so much towards the food and then Don won't have to worry about it. If need be one of us can take care of ordering the food for the day. I'm just thinking of how to make this an easier event for the Boss and his wife. I knew Don wouldn't cancel MD unless he really had to. So I waited and I've talked with a couple of other folks on the site about this. Not sure how we can make it easier for Don but I'm sure with this group we can come up with a plan that will work. I haven't asked Don before I started this thread. Maybe I should have, but knowing Don he'd have said not to worry about it. We could even just all go out to eat though that might get a bit crazy with the size group we'll be having. So let me know what you think folks. I'm hoping not to make anyone mad just trying to find a way to make it easier for Don and Eileen. Margaret

I haven't posted a public thanks to my lovely wife Eileen for helping make Maintenance Day a success. I know that she had a wonderful time and truly enjoyed it but I also know that it was a lot of work for her. Here is a little story that I wanted to share with you. On Monday morning I decided that I had better get a long overdue hair cut. The lady who usually cuts my hair does not work on Monday so I told them that anybody would do. When I got there, I found that I was scheduled with a new girl. She was maybe 20 years old, and a cute young lady. She asked me if I had a nice weakend and I replied that I had and told her that I had a few friends over for a little get together. When she heard how many there were, she made a comment that I must have a wonderful wife and of course I replied that I do. She then asked me how long it took to clean up after everybody left. I told her that I really didn't know because I had gone for a ride on Sunday evening and when I got back home, my wife and son had everything cleaned up. She said "WOW...I would have been MAD". Then she said "well, I probably wouldn't have been made...I would have just used it to put a guilt trip on my husband for the next few months, I would have gotten a lot of use out of it". OK...now first of all..please understand that I surely didn't expect things to be cleaned up when I got home. I am usually very good about helping clean up around the house, especially after something like that. Eileen told me though that she felt I was too exhausted and she wanted me to rest and knew that I wouldn't unless she got it done before I got home. Anyway, I told the young lady "well...you are cute but you need to stay VERY CUTE if that is going to be your attitude". I said it in a laughing manner and she didn't take offense but laughed also. I asked if she was married and she said no. I asked how she became so wise in the manipulation of the male species and she told me that she learned from watching her mother. I said OH....OK...and how long have your mom and dad been married? To which she replied: "Oh...they are divorced now". hmmmm.....imagine that. Anyway, Eileen is wonderful about these things and I simply could not do it without her. Sam teased me about the "LIST" that Eileen provides me with and I fuss about that list. Sam pointed out that the list that women provide their men is not meant as orders but simply "guidance". I don't know about all of that but I do know that without Eileen and the "list", things would never get done. OH...and I also need to add my son Dylan to my thanks. He really worked hard this year helping us get ready. He was a trooper.

For those of you who were not able to attend Freebird's Maintenance Day, here are some reasons to plan on attending next year. Top 10 Reasons for Attending Maintenance Day! 10. You get to see the Pond Monsters! 9. You get to eat Lonna's cheesecake! 8. You get to meet Lowell actually off of his bike. 7. You could ask Squidley to drill out your pipes. 6. You could buy a 80/20 raffles ticket from Stardbog! 5. You could camp in Freebird.s front yard and hope the Bullfrogs, eventually let you go to sleep, shortly before the crazed rooster wakes you up! 4. You can learn of the benefits of safety chrome and how to use it properly. 3. You can watch the lawn mower races with Eileen taking the lead and also just about everything in her path. 2. You will be able to put faces with the site names and then more than likely immediately forget them all. But the Number One Reason for going to Maintenance Day Is.............. You get to Meet Freebird, Eileen and Dylan and know what a great group of people we have in our family. So plan to come next year, you will not be sorry. Yama Mama

This may have been mentioned here before but I missed it if it has. I think this is the route I'm going to go for my wife. Heck, for $20.00 I think I'll get me one also. I have a Passport but wouldn't mind having this handy in my wallet. Eileen doesn't have a Passport so hers will be $45.00. Still, a cheaper alternative for any of you needing one. http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html

Eileen is a great photographer but she uses a 35mm camera and we haven't got the film developed yet. Here are a few pics that our son Dylan took with his little digital camera though. As you can see, Eileen and I found the fireplace at the lodge to be a great place to hang out. The first picture is of Round Lake shot through the screened window of our cabin.

We had frost warnings here last night. Predicted temps in the mid to high 30s. I don't think it got that cold but I'm not even ready to hear those predictions. Just doesn't seem that I've gotten near enough riding in this summer. I pulled the trailer out today and got it washed and waxed and polished the chrome. Then put the cover on it and put it in it's designated winter storage corner of the garage. I'm not done riding for the year but any long trips that would require the trailer are pretty much over with. I tell you folks...there is just WAY to much going on at my house. Seems there is not enough time for Eileen and I to have any time together. I know I've not posted here near as much as I usually do but things are just hectic right now. As you know, Eileen lost her sister a year or so ago due to cancer. It really took a toll on her after being the caregiver for a couple of years. Now her mother is dying of the same thing and she is doing it all over again. She is really having a hard time dealing with it all so please keep her in your prayers. Don
