Hey guys, My friend BJ Melin just posted the following on the MTA forum, so I thought I would post it here to get some feedback from you all: ""Hey guys I hate the front brakes on the 2nd gen Venture after a long trip my right hand is sore and worn out from gripping the lever so hard. I have bought a set of R6, 4 piston brake calipers and intend to get them installed the next time I have a decent day to work on the bike. I don't have an enclosed garage yet, so I have to wait for good weather. It looks like they will mount differently from the RSV 2 piston calipers. Rick Butler has mounted a pair of 4 piston calipers from the 1st gen on his Venture. Has anyone else tried the R6 calipers and if so how did they work out?" From what I have observed, the 2004 and earlier R6 and 2003 and earlier R1 calipers should be a clean bolt-up. Since many of these bikes seem to find their way to salvage, this might be a good option for someone wanting to get better front brakes on their RSV. Rick

I got a call from Mary on the arrangements for Mark. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday at the Biltmore Christ Temple, 260 Fairview Road, Asheville, NC. 28803 at 6:30 pm. There will not be a viewing as Mark is to be cremated. She is trying now to get some pictures together for display. I suggested she may be able to get some pictures from here and have copies made. We talked about what Mark had expressed and she said he had earlier stated that he wanted his ashes spread on the beach in Pensacola FL and some to be spread at their favorite riding roads, such as the Blue Ridge Parkway. I suggested that we may be able to put a group together for a ride on the BRP and have a Memorial service there also. Mary has expressed that in lieu of flowers, she could really use any donations. I do not have a PayPal account for receiving money and if someone else would like to take care of this, it would be greatly appeciated. Mary has given me her phone number and if anyone would like to talk with her, please let me know and I will give you her number. I want to say again that Mark was really a great guy. He had a great presence of being a big kid. He was always smiling and had a fun personality. He absolutely loved this site and the people he had met. As I said earlier, I was not sure what I was going to be able to do about putting together an Asheville Rally and Mark stepped up and did a great job. He must have taken a weeks vacation so he would be there early to be able to meet everyone coming in. Mark will be missed. His last name is Hopey RandyA

I just completed a 600 mile jaunt around the northern lower peninsula of Michigan on my 83 first gen and was pleasantly surprised by the mileage. 51.25 average on the whole 600!!! This is the best I've had since installing new diaphragms and Skydoc's needle shim kit earlier this year. Anybody else getting this kind of mileage?

Are the stock mufflers for an 83-85 different than the stock mufflers for the 86-93? If they are, what is the difference? Is the earlier ones a tad shorter than the 86-89?

I found these pics in an old file and I realized I never posted them here. I took my daughter to get her driver's license earlier this spring and this guy was parked at the DMV. Don't think I've ever seen a bike quite like this one. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjEtMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ni5qcGc.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjMtMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ny5qcGc.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/utf-8BSU1HMDAyNjItMjAxMTA1MDMtMTQ1Ny5qcGc.jpg

Had a little oopsie today and cracked the swivel part of the mirror. The base is still good and no other damage to the bike. Had a quick search on eBay and did not find any for sale. Found a few old threads referring to tapping the base for aftermarket MC mirrors or perhaps using Ford Ranger mirrors, 91 or earlier I think. Anyone done either of these mods? Only 14 days before I need to leave for Cody and I'm having a panic attack.

Looking for an earlier grab and firmer grip on take off. I cannot get used to my clutch engageing at neary full release. To completly dis-ingage I only need to pull about 1" on release lever. So I am looking for anything that will make it engage "earlier" and grip sooner. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518

I've just run out of time folks. I was working on a design and have it pretty much done but by the time I post here for orders, get the totals, get them ordered and etc., I just don't have time to get it all done. Sorry about that. The past couple of months have just been WAY to busy for me. I promise to get started on the earlier next year and we will have them again.

Thought some of you might be interested in seeing this as it goes across the country. Starts here in NC in Kitty Hawk and end up in Santa Monica CA. Looks pretty interesting all the bikes are 1916 and earlier. We're gonna head over to see them before they leave Kitty Hawk this week. http://www.motorcyclecannonball.com/ Margaret

Anyone else want to do Cedar Point the day before Freebird's Maintenance Day? I think one member said maybe in an earlier thread. http://www.cedarpoint.com/ http://www.cedarpoint.com/_upload/inside_the_park/rides/roller_coasters/corkscrew/corkscrew_01.jpg

Ok, so I had the thread earlier about the fuel petcock. Got the fixed, the bikes running, so moving on to the next thing. I have an 83 venture. I paid $400 for the bike. The only other thing I tell is wrong with it so far is the foot brake. I know it also controls one of the front calipers. The problem is that when you press the pedal down, it stays, and you have to pull it back up. So any suggestions, tips, advice, etc., would be greatly appreciated. thanks for all the help earlier. Look forward to getting my bike on the road!!

I posted earlier about my lifestyle change and was asked for a picture, so I will post a couple. I really do appreciate all the encouragement I am getting from you guys and I still have a ways to go. I will also see if I can find one from earlier. The one from Asheville is me on the left with me keeping the picture balanced. I was actually not at my peak weight in that picture. RandyA

How do you post a web page on here so that if you click on the link then it will display the page that I am referring to? I tried to do this earlier, but when you click the link it says that the web page can't be displayed. Thanks hairman

Hi, Here is a history question for you. Has anyone ever seen or owned one of these ? Cucciolo a small engine, developed by Ducati during and shortly after WWII, that could be mounted on a bicycle [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN4BA4JPSkc]YouTube - Cucciolo Vilar[/ame]. Apparently there were two versions, the earlier T50 with exposed valve gear and M55 with the valves enclosed with little caps. I suspect my interest is with the earlier version but am interested to know about either. My dad, now 86, waxes poetic about his post war days traveling around the english country side with my late mum aboard a pair of Cuciolo powered bicycles. They had to sell them in order to afford to immigrate in the early fifties. Whenever I talk about motorcycles, I hear about these bikes and these happy days of his. I'd like to know, how rare / common are they these days ? Thanks, Brian H. Uxbridge Ont.

Might even get ourselves an earlier open so we could get in before everyone else. Anyway let me know Please. Margaret

Just a heads up folks, spammers are at it again. Last night I received a notification from Paypa! ( no that's not a typo) saying that my acount may have been accessed by a third party and to update my information at the link provided for my "security". Needless to say I forwarded the email to Paypal. Thanks to someone posting this type of warning earlier in the year, I was aware of what was going around and didn't do something I would regret. Thought others might appreciate the heads up as much as I did. Cheers Wayne

I finally got around to hauling something on the back of my old Cab Over besides a bike. I've been selling off a few of my projects that never got off the ground and delivered one of them today. It's a '55 Chev pickup. The guy I bought it from years ago had installed an earlier style ('48 -'53) grill and included the older style box with it. That's why there is another box sitting on top of the stock one.

Hey guys, My wife and I are going to Nova Scotia this August with some other couples on our bikes. How is the weather in August and is there any advantage to going earlier in the month. We're trying to pack as light as possible. Thanks in advance, Eddie Flinchum

Thought some of you may find this interesting: This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see for the rest of our lives. And only if you are 95 or older have you ever seen it this early before. Easter can only occur one day earlier than it will this year, but that is very rare. The next time Easter will be as early as it is this year (March 23) is in the year 2228, or 220 years from now! The last time it was this early was 1913. The next time Easter will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in 2285, or 277 years from now! The last time it was that early was in 1818. The formula for the date of Easter is the first Sunday, after the first full moon, after the first day of Spring. This year, the first day of Spring is on Thursday and the full moon is on Friday and then Sunday is Easter. I was trying to post this earlier, but it took a little while to figure all this up. RandyA
