  1. Looking at adding new floor boards to my 07 RSM. Does anyone have any they what to sell? And are there any after markets that are made?Looking for drivers and passenger boards. The stock dull ones have to go!!!!
  2. I know we often talk of deer and drivers that don't see us... but keep your eyes out and be attentive of other things as well. http://www.lfpress.com/2012/10/27/biker-seriously-injured-after-striking-cart-left-in-road-in-london As the season winds down for most of us, drivers are less attentive to bikers, and the obstacles faced increase. Be careful out there.
  3. In Memphis, Tenn., New Orleans, La., and Alabama, it's against the law for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians. (This is not a bad idea in some cases..) Although women in Saudi Arabia got the right to vote in 2009, they still aren't allowed to drive a car. (I'll repeat the above... This is not a bad idea in some cases..) In San Francisco, Calif., it is illegal to wipe one's car with used underwear. (now that's downright sh*tty...) To limit road kill in Pennsylvania, driving along a country road at night requires drivers to stop every mile, send up a rocket signal and wait 10 minutes for the road to be cleared of livestock, before continuing along the route. (I heard livvin in Pennsylvania was a very "slow pace") In Sarasota, Fla., drivers are discouraged not to hit pedestrians (or you'll be fined $78). (heck, there's a few times I wouldn't mind payin...) In California, it's against the law to shoot at wild game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale. (seriously...??? LOL) In Wichita, Kansas, drivers are required to get out of their vehicle and fire three shot gun rounds into the air before proceeding through the intersection of Douglas and Broadway. (just make sure you don't hit any wild game....unless it's an whale... oh, that's in California ... never mind!) In Montreal, you may not park a car in such a way that it blocks your own driveway. (.... and prevent your spouses lover from escaping...) While some get a thrill from making out in cars, Massachusetts' law prohibits taxi drivers from having sexy time in the front row if they happen to be working (dumbass driver forgot to book off shift....) It's illegal to molest a car in Clinton, Okla. (now ya gotta be some serious weirdo to get arrested for that!) In California, no vehicle without a driver may exceed 96 km/h an hour. (... or it will be sentenced to public molestation.) If you have been convicted of driving while intoxicated in New Jersey, you'll no longer be eligible to apply for personalized license plates. (now here's a law that should be everywhere ... it would immediately put an end to DUI's ... or personalized lic plates...) Women can't wear a housecoat while behind the wheel in California. (fine... dump the houscoat ) In South Carolina it is illegal to display a replica of testicles on a vehicle. (real ones are ok though...)
  4. Hidden in a box of parts appears to be a pair of drivers backrest mounts for an MKI bike. Not sure, but may be worth checking out if you are in need of a set. http://www.ebay.com/itm/83-Yamaha-Venture-Royale-XVZ-1200-Box-of-Parts-C6-/400308631506?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3440f7d2&vxp=mtr Gary
  5. Just when you thought you completed your mental checklist of hazards: Inconsiderate / rude / inattentive drivers pot holes animals here comes one you wouldn't expect.... http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110829/110829_motorcyclist_injured/20110829/?hub=CP24Home
  6. Not sure how many F1 fans are here... my son sent me a clip on Ayrton Senna that was done on "Top Gear" a few years ago. I've seen the Senna movie and watched races when Senna was still with us. For those that haven't seen the Senna movie... watch it ! If you aren't familiar with Senna... watch the "Top Gear" clip. Amazing racer ![ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oLSYSJO5Ik&feature=share]Top Gear on Ayrton Senna (Full Segment) - YouTube[/ame] Cars of the 80's... turbo charged 1200+hp, no drivers aids, manual shifting, little aerodynamic downforce, mostly mechanical grip. Hamilton's comments are interesting. Drivers made more of a difference then. Now... best aero package and less of the driver. Summer break for F1 racing... 11 days to the next "fix".

Did You Know: DID YOU KNOW? http://www.rummelinsurance.com/media/images/dot.png At least 28% of all traffic crashes--or at least 1.6 million crashes each year involve drivers using cell phones and texting http://www.rummelinsurance.com/media/images/dot.png Cell Phone Use Was Reported in 18% of Distraction-Related Fatalaties in America http://www.rummelinsurance.com/media/images/dot.png 57% of American drivers admit to texting while driving http://www.rummelinsurance.com/media/images/dot.png You are 23 times more likely to be involved in an accident when texting and driving http://www.rummelinsurance.com/media/images/dot.png Texting while driving increases the risk of a crash 23.2 times higher than non-distracted driving. 8. I have a 08 RSTD, has anyone come up ideas to help with the heat on the drivers feet?
  9. Looking to replace the aluminum boards. For sure the passenger ones that look like crap with all the other chrome...then do the drivers to match. Any suggestions? Don't want to have to change the mounting hardware. Needs to be durable too.
  10. Ok, I was watching Brain Games on nat geo. They were explaining how the mind can only focus on one thing well and multi tasking. They did some tests and at some point explained that most accidents with motorcycles are cagers who turn left in front of bikes. The cagers are looking for cars and since they do not have motorcycles in their minds they actually dont see the motorcycles since they aren't looking for them, they are looking for cars and trucks. It seems to me if this were true the government would do a better job to educate drivers to look for bikes or place reminders at key intersections to get drivers into the habit.
  11. I have a guy who will make the brackets for fitting the Venture Drivers seat to a Tour Deluxe, Is there anyone out there that might be interested? The more I get made the cheaper it will be....
  12. Interesting read.... http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2011-09-11/uninsured-drivers/50363390/1
  13. Like it said, I have an 83 mk1 and the seat has started getting messed up from the heat and sun. Its almost like its melting and has gotten sticky. I like the stock seat but it really isn't too comfortable for a long ride. I'm a bigger guy, think 250ish so I was wondering if there is an aftermarket seat available for the first gen mk1s, would really like it to have the option for or come with a drivers back rest. Haven't been able to find any seat options so any ideas would be great, or any ideas about making stock seat more comfortable. Thanks for your time guys:bluesbrother:

  15. Watching this new show right now. These driver in India are NUTS. And they are not to the mountains yet. Totally insane drivers.
  16. Enroute to PIP and ...DOH! I forgot that I don't have my drivers seat tightened. Well, you can guess what happened. It's somewhere along hy 37 in Iowa! Looked, but no luck. At a rest stop now with free WiFi! Woo hoo! Any chance there is a spare 2nd gen seat on it's way to PIP? I have a couple seat pads that I can use, Dee says Thank God it was my seat and not hers LOL. See you all there Thursday or Friday!
  17. Hello All, We purchased our 2008 Royal Star Venture 2 weeks ago and have enjoyed our first few rides very much. However, I'm considering modifying or replacing the driver's seat. I'd like to sit higher and further back as I am quite tall (6'8"). I'm not as concerned about seat height above ground, as I am about the distance from my bum to the floorboards. My knees currently form about a 90 degree angle. Also, I find the front part of the seat that goes up and over the tank is uncomfortable. I would appreciate any suggestions for how to modify, raise, or replace the driver's seat. My wife is fine with the passenger seat. Thanks, allanj42
  18. I'm in a pickle. Got a new motherboard with one PS2 port and a bunch of USB ports. Also have a mouse and a keyboard with PS2 connectors. Do the math, pick the mouse or pick the keyboard, only one can be connected at a time. Boot up with either one and it works. The keyboard is needed to key in my login password, Unfortunately the driver setup that came with the MB does not seem to recognize keyboard tabs or arrows so I can't install the drivers that would --- hopefully --- allow the USB ports to work. Yes, I got a USB to PS2 adapter but neither mouse nor keyboard works when connected to a USB port. The Win7 Control Panel does not appear very helpful compared to the one in Win2K. Haven't found a way to see the status of any devices yet. Boot up and plug in the mouse USB and the computer says installing device drivers, as expected, but the install fails for reasons unknown to me. Anyone got any experience with this confounded contraption who could offer any advice?
  19. I just wanted to say thank you to utopia as well as everyone else who posted input about drivers backrests. Because of the input, I recently purchased a new drivers backrest for my 2005 RSTD. Installation was very easy. I did drill out the holes a bit larger. The backrest is very comfortable, I put on 1000 miles last week to and from Sturgis SD last week. Highly reccommend!!!!
  20. Anyone out there with a Midnight drivers seat who is looking to have Rick Bulter do his seat mod let me know as I'll trade you even up. While the Mrs loves her seat mod Rick did to the passenger seat I've found that I really prefered the firmer original drivers seat. My bike has the studs on the seats so will require the same when trading. Thanks, Larry
  21. Hello Everyone: I am looking to add a drivers backrest to my 2005 RSTD. Does anyone have one that they would like to sell? I thought I would ask first before buying a new one. Thanks in advance......
  22. Ok, I removed the passenger set to secure one of the HSH (Holy S**T Handles) and go to reattach the seat and I realize that one of the screws/bolts are stripped. I would be willing to accept the blame; however, it never tightened completed. Now I realize I can't get it back out again should I need to tighten the HSH again. That being said, again I would like to proclaim to the world my ignorance of all things mechanical. So now my problem is how do I get this bolt/screw without having to take it to the dealer and have him charge me for what they probably did in the first place. Or is this something that I am going to need help from a more mechanically apt and better stocked individual. TIA P.S. I was only able to take off the passenger seat because I happened to read in here somewhere that the bolts for the passenger seat was located under the driver's seat. P.P.S. I was also only able to remove the driver's seat through the gracious and kindness of another individual here who walked me through removing it on the phone - lol. Did I mention I am totally mechanically inept. It is sooo bad, that the Air Force almost did not let me enlist because of the mechaniccal portion of the ASVAB even though I scored off the charts on everything else. Again, TIA:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
  23. ...Phillips head screws? I know Honda did in the early 70's. The screws were getting rounded because many people did not use the JIS standard drivers on them. So, me was wondering about Yammy. Decent page on JIS - http://www.instructables.com/id/When_a_Phillips_is_not_a_Phillips/step10/JIS-Japanese-Industrial-Standard/
  24. Has anyone had an issue with to much SeaFoam fouling your plugs? I ran about 1/4 tank of fuel, and an entire can of SeaFoam to clean my carbs. Now my plugs are shot. I had to replace them just to get it to run. However, that being said one thing I noticed, is only the drivers rear cylinder was running. I could, and did, unplug all 3 other plug wires, and it ran. But if you unplug drivers rear plug wire, it won't run. After that replaced the plugs, with used, as did not have new. Will get new plugs today. It is running again. But, still seems to be a a bit rough. I know the carbs have never been synced, as the little brass plugs are still on the carbs. So, gotta figure this problem out now. Sheesh, what's next? So far, has new wires, new plugs-now a bit fouled, replaced the fuel pump and filter, replaced the selector valve on the tank, regluing all the plastic fairing pieces. Still needs the clutch bearing fixed. I am hoping this is not a money pit.

    Research

There is an article in todays paper stating the the provincial government is going to crack down on motorcycle riders due to there having been several deaths recently. Most of the deaths they refer to were caused by automobile drivers turning left into the motorcyclist or pulling out in front of the motorcyclist. I intend to send a letter to the paper and to the motor vehicles branch explaining that it is the automobile drivers who need to be cracked down on. Some time ago I saw a thread here which showed research into motorcycle accidents and the increase in the death rate was largely due to the increase in SUV's and high pickups on the road. I would like to use that thread but I cannot find it. Does anyone remember it and can you tell me where to find it. Thanks
