I just replaced the shift shaft seal over the weekend and it seemed to go well. I rode 40 miles to work today no problem. On the way home I needed to downshift for slowing traffic, and I could not push the shifter down to get into 4th gear. The only odd thing I noticed when putting the clutch basket assembly back together was that when I put the splined thrust washer on after the clutch basket, the place on the shaft where the thrust washer ends up has no splines. I thought that was strange, but I know I put the washer on in the correct order, after the basket but before the rest of the assembly. The clutch pull at the handlebar did seem not quite as firm tonight, but that could have been my imagination as I was looking for possible causes as I rode. Each time I could not downshift, I waited a few seconds and tried again and it worked. I upshifted with no problem. Any ideas?

Shifting w toe hard, heel easy

I have a 2000 RSV. Suddenly yesterday it was very difficult to downshift. Upshifting with my heel remained easy. Seemed to be easier to downshift if I was at lower speeds. After riding for several hours it worked back to normal. If it is a linkage issue any idea how I would adjust it? Doesn't seem that it would be an internal issue because I didn't feel or hear anything. Thanks for your thoughts. Bob -
I rode a 2007 RSV for aobut three years and was used to letting the engine rev up when shifitng, and that included down shifting a bit early, to keep the revs up when power might be neeeded. now that I have a GL1800 I find that I shift late in the RPMs and downshift before entereing a corner and downshift early when comming to a stop......... I wonder if I need to chage my ways.............. what do you think?

Hi, I am having excessive backfiring when I downshift, checked carb sync, ok checked hoses to erg and looked for leaks on exhaust and intake manifolds, bike runs great, idels good starts good, I've had bike since new, 105895km on the bike regular service, there where plugs on the egr but we removed them, and it still backfires, so I would like some response to my problem and Im sure someone can give me the answer, thanks for the help to come, I will look foreward to your replys, this has come on over the past few weeks, Thank You .." Mobile " ps: the plug removed from the front hose had a black layer of carbon on the top of it, and I wonder if that would indicate the erg is defective ?
