I need some help finding long distance touring tires. My Yamaha dealership swamped me into a Vons claiming they would rival Michelin long-distance tires. The michelins claimed double the usual expected mileage. That would equate to 40,000 k. I have since learned my Yamaha dealer may have totally lied about the capability of the Avon tires. Not wishing to rely on them for advice I'm asking here. The Dunlop Elite 4 tires seem to claim amazing range. What is my best option and does anyone know where I could get them installed in short notice.

I have ridden in a ton of charity rides, I always keep the same safe distance that I do while riding in traffic, because thats exactly what you are doing.http://www.tmz.com/2012/10/23/jay-leno-motorcycle-crash-accident/

Per the attached picture what is your handle bar spacing distance. That is at near the top which is the widest distance between handle bar opening around the nut that keeps the handle bar on. . Is it 11 3/8; or 12 1/8; or 13 1/8 inches. There can be other settings but I think these 3 are the most common. Working on a slight different design that will accomodiate various settings. Thanks.

I have a 99 RSV with 02 California sidecar, new to me as of April 2011 The bike had 14,000 miles when I bought it, and only 16,000 now. Friends are planning a 2 week trip to Arizona this summer, about 5,000 +/- miles, and I would really like to join them. They are driving new HD's. I plan on making several trips before this to get used to distance driving. (more than the 1 to 3 hour jaunts I've been on so far) So the question is...........and I understand there are many variables..........do you think the bike will make it? Thanks in advance! MJ

How much travel should the choke lever have. Mine seems to very short travel distance. It is enough to get it going whenbwarm outside but now that it is in the 40s outside I am having to hold a little throttle to keep idle up until the engine is a little warmed up. Got up today - it was six degrees (42 F)!!! It's STILL six degrees with a high of only 17 (63 F). Ugh. Guess most of our long day rides are over - as soon as it goes below 10 degrees (50 F), I'm way too cold to go on the bike any distance. May look into heated gear next year. Short rides are okay, under an hour max but all day rides? Can't handle it at all even with multiple layers and lots of leather. This summer was WAY too short.

hello everyone taking a test ride here my name is Vincent Owen i live in sw Ar. finally got another bike after many years 07RSMV replacing a Vstar 1100 kids are gone an were ready to try our first long distance trip to eastern Tenn. It was suggested that i post questions here about any suggestions on making our trip pleasant. We have seven days to travel an limited space as you all are aware of. Just wondering whats a reasonable distance to travel a day and not be wore out I know that will vary from person to person. Suggestions on packing etc. Also any great reasonable places to stay in the Gatlinburg an Pigeon Forge area. Anything a newbie tourer might need to know. Experience is the best teacher but often has the hardest lessons

Did you all know that "Madison" and "Mammoth" sound very similar when shouted over running motorcycle engines? We went to Gardner, MT for pizza...not fabulous...and apparantly liked the view so much we went back to Madison via Mammoth. So...after 9 and 1/2 hours we logged 300 miles. Awards for longest time making least amount of distance should be considered. Long distances get recognized, what about short ones? Oh and breakdowns don't count. Have a great night everyone.

Would somebody mind taking a photo and a measurement for me? I'd check my own but the bags are off and before I install them back on I'm going to make a little modification. Plus it's cold and dark out in the garage. I need to know the distance (of the gap) between the front of the saddlebag and the back of the bag guard/frame... in the vicinity of that little horizontal ridge. In the area where the yellow arrow is pointing in the following photo: Thanks folks!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Utopia-driver-backrest-/280551056609?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories Thought this might be great deal for somebody. Trying to find a 86 - 93 one but when I'm going any distance I have my bag back there and don't really need it.

I want a set of small ape hangers for my 06 RSTD because the wide grip of the factory bars don't work with my neck and shoulders. However, the locals are telling me there is no way it can be done. Does anyone know where I can get this done in reasonable driving distance from NWArkansas?

how about accepting Canadian Postal codes also? There are a LOT of us Canucks here!

I am a little concerned that some of the posts righting that the stoping distance are based on the tyres. My thought is that your stopping distance is based on not on your tyres, but the weight the tyres are carrying and the condition of the road at the time you knead to stop. I am one not to skid my tyres to stop the flat spot it crates is not one I want. The tyres I bye are for handling and distance do you agree.

I don't know if anyone else saw this or not but this ought to stress the importance of safe riding in a group (ie staggering) and maintaining a proper following distance... I think its amazing that more were not critically injured! http://www.komonews.com/news/local/59860797.html Hope they all come out okay.

What is the farthest distance you have ridden in one day? We went 700 and something from Cincinnati, Ohio to a town called Williams, Iowa this past August. That was the longest for us. We were tired, but because we stop to stretch our legs usually about every 2 hours or so, we really were not sore. Just tired, especially from the strong winds on I-80. Yama Mama

Back in the mid 80's, along the Blue ridge parkway(somewhere), there were 2 motorcycle only campgrounds. They were just off the parkway a very short distance. I believe one was called High County Cycle Camp. Was just wondering if they were still there, and if they are still open. Gil

I am mapping out a long distance trip for next summer - something I have not yet done with the 05 Midnight as yet. I have done all the bike service and added the new tires, bought some good sun glasses and............... It seems to me however - many of you have done this long distance riding thing already- so I was wondering if all you long trip experienced riders might help a newbie in this area. If there were one or two things you would do differently, or one of two things you would have taken along or adjusted or whatever - that would have made the long distance ride more enjoyable (safer, more relaxing etc) ...what would those one or two things be???

Anybody know where I can get hold of a Star decal for the back window of my truck? Yamaha used to make a large bumper sticker that said "Star Motorcycles". I have looked everywhere but can not find anything. I would like to have a fairly large one that can be seen from a distance. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I know I haven't posted much lately and I apologize for that. Most of you know that there has been a lot going on in our lives lately. After the passing of our grandson and upon Eileen's return home, we just needed some time to sit back and relax, reflect on things. The time has been good for us and things are getting back to normal now. Yesterday I got a call from my company to let me know that they are changing up our sales territories a bit. I previously covered OH, Western NY, Western PA, WV and Eastern KY. I am told that I will no longer be covering any of NY but have been given the entire state of Indiana. The net result is that I now have more customers and also a bit more distance to cover. I have mixed feelings about it. I do like Indiana and it will be a nice change to travel some less familiar roads but the increased distance is sort of a bummer. Not too bad though. There are parts of NY that I really liked and will miss. I always enjoyed the Finger Lakes area.

I have belonged to this site for a few years now and have met many of you and have long conversations with lots of others. So I value and respect the opinion of lots of you guys....heres my question....I am thinking about getting a 1994 Goldwing...can get it fairly cheap. Any experience with this year? I know the wing is a good bike but some years have their issues? Any input?....Im looking at it because we are going to be doing alot more distance riding. I know all about the Venture..like I said, I have been here for years. I have even rode some other members bikes....but there are no deals on Ventures around here.Im looking at a wing. Something? Here's a link to the website where I picked up the mesh jackets for Phil and I. Yesterday was the first time we worn them for any distance, and they were great. I am very happy that we got them. http://store.valueaccessories.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1644&MMP=1014317010

I just picked up a 1987 Venture Royale with a 2 person sidecar and want to change the sparkplugs, but can't seem to find a socket to fit the hole! I looked at it with a flashlight and the distance between the sprakplug and the wall is very thin. Is there a special way to get these out?

I'm from Alabama and don't mind having anyone know. I've watched threads appear and disappear and read input from many Ventureriders. Some, it seems that I might click with due to similar interests, philosophies, occupations, etc. and if, within reasonable riding distance would like to meet them or get together for a ride. But there are so many that do not list the state, so how do I know who is close in distance and who is not. Makes me wonder. Is there just enough distrust within the membership that it makes a person antsy about putting there state along with their city or is it site policy for the protection of all members, "just in case"?

Unless I'm blind (been told that a couple times) I don't see how to delete the classified ad for my Baxley Trailer. A very nice gentleman gave me some of this funny green paper and I let him take away the trailer. It was a good trailer but did not fit my needs any more. New owner can't ride long distance but wants to go into northern rockies so the trailer will help him do that. If someone could pull the ad for me or tell me how to myself I'd appreciate it. Thanks !!!!!!! :smile5:
