So I got the kit from SkyDoc back in Novemeber, I followed the instructions and upgrade the half disc to a full disc, and used the new spring while putting it together. What a difference!!! For about a week!!! Several of you told me including Skydoc that I'd be doing it again soon. Well pulled the trigger and ordered the new discs, to go with the upgrade kit. I'll pull it all apart and put in the other 7 discs, Grumble grumble grumble.

Ok- I have been a dabbler with Linux for many years. With the advent of Windows 8 I am much closer to dumping Microsoft in favor of a Linux box for our HTPC. However, I have not been able to find a Blu-Ray software program that will run under Linux in a SIMPLE way. I am talking load disc, click on an icon and enjoy movie. Anyone know of such a critter? It can be free or paid. JB

Here we go again, Charlene is having more surgery, on her neck this time, she has 3 ruptured discs, going to have 2 of them removed and have some donor bone, cages, a plate and 6-8 screws put in. This is one we weren't expecting but after she had her hip replaced and her spinal surgery she was still having numbness and pain being caused by the bad disc. She is going back to Emory Hospital in Tucker, Ga. They are very good at what the do, I highly reccomend them to anyone who may need any kind of orthopedic surgery done.

the frames at the sand blaster, and i just fired up the new motor for it. i bought a new 13 hp, 389 cc, overhead valve, electric start motor, from harbor freight. that along with the cvt, comet clutch, should set a cruising speed around 65mph, top speed around 75 mph. i'm using a zx-14 rear disc and caliper for the front brake and the original drum brake in the rear. it should stop good and run with the hardleys uo to 50 mph., with it's low weight of 275 lbs.. getting excited about getting my frame back so i can start machining parts for the drive train and get the motor mounted. i'm also going to 10" polished aluminum wheels with michlein tires to improve the handling. to finish things off i am going to paint it silver and blue clear coat to match my nomad. it will look original except for the wheels, disc brake, and fancy paint job. should be a real sleeper at the cushman meets. for all you folks that had and loved cushmans when you were young , they are still very popular. there are thousands of them around. check out some of the cushman sites. it makes a great hobby. there are alot of meets, and nice people involved in them.

I just changed out my rear brake disc this morning.. the previous 2 owners had gone metal on metal on the pads a few times, mostly because the inner pad wears out twice as fast as the outter one and yes, *I* even got caught like that on a road trip. I checked my pads and thought I had tons left.. but the inner pad wore out and I too found myself metal on metal on the inner rear disc. wow.. Bummer. Every time I had changed pads, I found the inner one tons thinner than the outside one.. Many of you had observed the same thing here. When I bought the bike, it was 2 years old, 20,000 miles on it and the rear disc was quite worn.. but wasn't something I really took notice of, the mechs told me "meh, seen worse but it's OK".. So I replaced the rear brake disc because it needed to be and mostly because I found a new one at a price you simply couldn't sneeze at.. I also replaced all the pads with the Double H Sintered pads from EBC. Last summer, when I replaced the rear pads, I did so with Double H Sintered pads.. I asked the shop to keep the pads for me for later examination. What was surprising is that there is no way to tell which was the inner and which was the outer pad, after 15 to 20,000 miles on them.. And I'm a heavy rear brake user because of the courses I do and the style of riding I do.. Well.. how about that.. And the pads were not even half used up yet.. But they were the same equal thickness.. Hmm how about that??? To me this is interesting. There is enough pad left to have finished off the summer on them easily.. What I will be monitoring this summer is how much brake disc material gets eaten up by the Double H pads. Someone had mentioned to me that you will sacrifice premature wear of the disc for using those pads. But you also get better braking (wow, I found that out on the way home today!) I have my shop note book of what and when I've done anything to the bike so I'll be able to keep a better record as to how much wear and tear is offered on the disc because of these pads. Based on what I observed on the first set of pads off this bike, I think I made the right choice.. However, your mileage and opinion may differ.. I'm not saying this is the absolute best route to take but it seems right to me based on what I saw and experienced.. I'll let you know if this worked out or not later this summer.. Field reports and such etc

Looking for a little help. I am going to upgrde the clutch on my 02 RSV with an used Barnett spring I got at a good price( $62 for the whole clutch basket assy with the Barnett kit) I was going to do the PCW Racing kit as it was cheaper untill I found this deal. Ive read a lot here about the PCW kit and understand that they are replacing the rear half disc for a full friction disc. So my question is are the guys that are using the Barnett kit doing the same thing? I dont recall ever seeing anything about that with the Barnett although I cant see where it would hurt, but matbe it isnt nessesary. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Hi folks.. I'll soon be installing a new rear disc and pads on my 2006 RSV.. mine is so badly cut into, there is a pronounced lip at the outer edge of the disc that now cuts into the new pads I install. Fun huh Once I have the new disc and HH pads installed, brakes bled and pistons cleaned up, what's the proper way of 'breaking them in'? A fast speed slam the brake on, or a slow long progressive application of the brakes or frequent on off applications? I recall someone telling me about not doing it a certain way to prevent 'glazing' the disc right away, thus defeating the benefit of a new disc.. Any thoughts on this? Hopefully soon I'll be all braided steel lines and the new rear brakes.. Thanks in advance.

Working on the brakes on my '87 Royale today. The rear pads were down so I replaced them. I also checked the fronts but they were O.K. I did notice on all the brakes that the calipers were partially extended and the pads were against the discs, making it a bit difficult to get them off the disc. Should they not be more or less fully retracted when the brakes are not being applied?

Well. I bought a $20,000 6 disc changer...It came with a really cool motorcycle, but quite frankly, I don't need it (the changer, not the bike). I want to sell it, but have no idea what it's worth. It's brand new, in the box, with 2 pieces that I assume are for the installation. One is a plastic piece and one is a very thick rubber boot that seems like it is made to go around the player. I don't want to list it on eBay until I know what it might be worth, any advice? Kevin

Nothing I mean nothing causes me more headaches and blood pressure then a stubborn computer. My daughters Dell desk top running Xp pro sp2 has crashed. We get the dreaded Unmountable boot error. The machine just runs forever trying to boot. Here is where we are. 1. I cannot boot into safe mode or last know config. 2. It's a dell refurb so tech support won't help not the original owner. 3. No I don't have a XP pro cd to use the recovery system. 4. The Cd rom doesn't work or recognize anything. 5. I tried booting with the A drive using boot files from another machine with no luck. 6. The only solution I have found is building those dreaded six floopy disc files that support xp pro sp2 from microsoft but damn if I can find working floopys around this house. I am up to 4 usable disc but the fifth one crashes. Three hours work and the trash can is getting full of bad disc. 7. All I want is to build a XP pro boot disc from a working machine to try a earlier restore point. She probably has a corrupted file on the HD.

I had to change my '99 RSV front brake discs recently and found that the right chrome disc cover has a weight in the inside. I have never really cared for the looks of the covers and was considering not putting them back on but the weight changed my mind. Does anyone know what purpose the weight serves and is it necessary?

Am looking for more pics from the 2007 VIP pig roast to put together a slid show. So, if anyone took digital photos, if you could put them on a disc and send them to me it would be greatly appreciated. Once I get the slid show put together, will send out a disc to everyone who made the trip. Will also send a copy to our historian. Thanks much in advance.

unified rear brake: doesn't touch front disc
Guest posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Okay, I've noticed after some pretty lengthy rides, my left front disc plate is cool as a ice on my 83 venture. First thought is that the brakes aren't working up there (the rear foot pedal controls both rear and front left brakes). Is there and adjustment in the system somewhere? I'm not familiar with these rear and front combined units. I tried finding it in the manual , but I see no adjustments. Maybe air in the line? Doesn't make sense. -
Has anyone had to return anything to MAW? I bought a rear brake disc for my '89VR from them about three weeks ago. Ran a couple hundred miles last saturday, and toward the end started hearing a clicking noise coming from the rear end. Couldn't find anything wrong on the side of the road, so eased to the house. Couldn't find anything then either. Today I got to looking a little closer, and half the rivets in that new disc are loose. move it back and forth and it clicks. I told Ya'll this thing was a money pit. One thing after another. Again, the bike has great potential but man.....By the way, I guess I'm gonna have to go with an aftermarket clutch spring. This one still slips, even though it's new. but if you dont crank hard on the throttle it dont slip at all. thank heavens the old wing never misses a beat.
