I have noticed in the past that several members are or were active duty military. I have a couple of questions about dealing with the VA. When I was in the USAF, I had surgery done on my knee and my miniscus carteldge was removed. The VA filed me as less than 10% disabled. While I do get to go to the VA clinics and they have done a follow up surgery, I am needing surgery again. The surgeon even says my cartiledge is gone and I should be on disability. Unfortunately for me, the nearest hospital is New Orleans. After Katrina, the hospital was damaged beyond repair. They are currently using Tulane Univ. training hospital but are limited on the number of days they have access to the surgery. Presently, I have basically additional floating bones in my knee area that keep floating into the joint area and creating a rather electifying experience. I am on the list for surgery to remove the particals as I am "too young" for replacement, but have not been scheduled. And truthfully, not sure when it will happen. My questions are: 1. How do I get the VA to upgrade, my disability - I have tried being reevaluated, but they just touch my scar and say nothing has changed. 2. How do I get the VA to move me up on their schedule, I have been waiting since Halloween and jonesing to ride my bike. TIA Joe

An "interesting" way to say thank you to the troops. Our very own Alice in Wonderland, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, the darling of the Tea Party and a possible contender for Office of the President in 2012, plans on introducing a bill to reduce Department of Vetern Affairs budget by 4.5 billion dollars. To do this she wants to: Cap increases in DVA health care spending. Reduce veterans disability compensation Off-set disability payments by the amount of compensation received in SS Disability Insurance payments. Guess she is tired to just paying lip service to the Veterans.

I wrecked my right knee back in Jan. of 06. Lost my job because I was no longer able to perform my duties. Left one followed soon after. Needed to get a lawyer in the beginning of 07. I'm still waiting. Had to go back to school to make a career change because I can't do the kinds of work I have always been able to do before. It really suck going back to school with ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ond another reading disability I can't pronounce. At least school will be over as of the end of this spring semester. Been putting applications and resumes in here and there, but so far, no luck. I've had to pass up to many jobs due to my work restrictions. How much trouble do you think a guy could get into if he didn't stay within his restrictions? Almost had disability go through, but they decided going to school was the same as working so I was denied. Has anybody else had to deal with similar things? Should dealing with the lawyers and insurance companies really take this long?

Well, we haven't divorced yet, but we have seperated. Liz is still in Tennessee, I moved down to Hinesville Ga on saturday. All the grandkids are now within 10 minutes from the house. The 7th is due in about 3 weeks. Maybe now I can start making some of the M&Es. Liz and I have split on pretty good terms. We decided that a 25 year friendship was worth more to us than a one year marraige. She is still one of my best friends, we just couldn't live together. Different priorities I guess. I am also now medically retired. The cardiologist finally said no more work, so I now have a social security claim and a disability claim working wth VA. Meanwhile, short term disability thru the job. So at least I'm not broke. Yet.

After three and a half years of not working, that ain't real easy! As some of you know, I hurt my back at work in October of '04 (2 weeks after buying my house!) and the last day that I worked was the day after Thanksgiving '04. After a year and a half of therapy, I let the Doc cut me in May of '06. He did a fusion and some other stuff on my back. I was on disability until July of '07 when I was released by the doctor and I left UPS. Since then I've had no income except from roommates that I took in to help with expenses. On disability I was making less than half of what I had been earning. It seems that the more you earn, the more you are hurt by disability, because they have a cap on it. Today I started training with FedEx Express as a courier. The lifting should be a lot less at FedEx. This is the air division, not the home dlivery (or ground). I can lift up to 70 pounds, I just can't do it as repetitively as is required at Big Brown. (What can Brown do TO you?!) The good news is that now I have an income again , the bad new is that this is really going to cut into my riding ! I guess there won't be anymore staying on line reading this stuff til 3am, either! Y'all think of me in the next few weeks while I'm in training! Oh Well, at least I can ride to work. I rode today with massive thunderstorms coming in, I decided that I needed to start the legend early (even if only in my own mind!).
