Hey guys, I'm looking for a tach for my Midnight and not sure what to get.. I got up all confused over the single / dual ignition thing etc.. What's out there that is bone dead simple to install etc? I had a small little digital tach thing that I couldn't make work as it required me to splice into too many odd wires to make it work (needed converter signal cables etc) Suggestions?

Well, my kisan chargeguard has apparently died. I've had it for 2 or 3 years with no problems on my Venture before it died. I've been installing stuff for the past 2months on Saturdays on my new to me, 05 vstrom, so I've had the bike in my Honda charger. I want an ammeter and voltmeter (digital), but I haven't seen anything out there. What do you guys use to monitor current draw/voltage? Doug

I am wanting to get a tach for all the times you need one to tune on your bike. I have one built into a multimeter that has RPM and a lead you clip on a plug wire. Problem is, the damn numbers are all over the place. It reads RPMs but one moment you think you are set at 1050 then you are at 850, 975,1300,1100, then it bounces to 800....I mean I am totally tuning and syncing by ear, cause who knows...drives me crazy! So I am in search of a tach like the one in my service manual...I have a 96 Royal Star XVZ13A. So please tell me...do all digital tachs bounce numbers around or is it just the format of the multimeter. I have read that people fuss about buying a digital and it cant notice when you adjust something or is to slow in putting a read out. All thoughts and info on a good one would be great! Thanks all!

My dear wife has told me to go out and get a new digital camera for fathers day. I have a top $ budget of $250 but the lower the better. I want something that's small enough to carry in the tank bib that I can pull out and shoot while riding, it's got to have a decent optical zoom for scenery shots without a lot of lag time between shots. I'd also like it to have HD video that is not time limited for shooting ride video. I don't take pictures of the night sky very often. I'd use it mostly for scenery, portrait, parts pics and video. The easier to use the better. My last 2 cameras were Canons A620 and a A570IS I'm looking for recommendations from experienced photo shooters or a similar to me novice with actual hands on use, please.

Digital Tachometer Question
EnJay posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm wondering what make/model digital tachometer is being used out there for diagnostics. I have an 84 VR MK1 and need to make some adjustments that require a digital tach. Before I make a purchase I would like to see what you guys are using and whether you like it or not. So; whatcha using? -

In today’s world of digital photography, I miss the art of taking a good photograph. I miss the expectant wait for the developing process to see if what I think I saw is what I recorded on the film. I miss the rules that have been generated over years of trial and error that hold true today as well as they did 100 years ago, and don’t mean a thing in the electronic world... I guess I just miss the romance of shooting silver film. So I drag out the old Nikon F2, and fire the shutter a half dozen times, get my fix, put it back into it's camera bag, and slip my digital in my shirt pocket…

Looking to upgrade my digital camera from a point and shoot to an SLR Digital, I hear a lot of good things about the Canon EOS Rebel. Any others out there that I should consider. Money is a concern, trying to stay under $500.00. I know we have a lot of camera buffs here and hopefully they can help me with this decision.

Anyone have the DGD system and if so, are you pleased with the way it works?

I've been reading the threads on voltmeters and have decided to put one on my 04 RSV. I've looked at the Kuryakan digital and am wondering what you are using and where you mount them on the RSV? Thank you in advance. Chris in Red Deer, Alberta

Any one have a recommendation for a thin style digital camera in the $200 price range. I would like to get one that has HD video recording capability. I am not looking for an SLR type camera, would prefer the thin style, retractable lens would be fine. We have a Minolta Dimage X1 that has quit working. Gary

I plan on converting my record collection to mp3s (ya not the greatest archiving way but better than never listening to them now) I see lots of software but how the heck to you get from 2 RCA jacks to a macbook? I dont plan on hooking up my stereo again but rather go from the turntable to a what? Do I need a pre-amp to digital converter? Can anyone recommend some hardware for a macbook?

I just installed the Argus Battery Bug and it works great. 100% battery capacity and voltage reads between 13.7 and 14 while running. Drops down to 13.2 when parked. At the same time I disconnected my Signal Dynamics charging indicator to be replaced by a digital meter. Here is where im seeing differences in the charging rate and where my questions lie. As stated, the Argus is showing full charging. This gauge mounts directly to the + &- side of the battery for a direct read. The digital gauge is wired to a ground and the + lead is tapped into the ignition wire under the fairing. This is where im getting a lower reading from the digital gauge. 12.9 while running down to 12.2 fully loaded with all switches and lights on. Yet the Argus BB shows the charging volts at the battery in the 13 range. Did I do something wrong here? Why would there be such a difference in readings? Is there a better place to hook up this digital gauge other than the ignition wire? Its the pink with yellow striped wire. My driving lights are also tapped into this line. Help!!!!

What's a good multimeter these days? Is there a better instrument than a multimeter? Prefer a digital readout. I had one and have been looking for it for a couple weeks now. I know where I usually keep it and where I had it last, but seems to have gotten up and crawled away.

Every winter, I get PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) bad, and end up buying bike stuff to try to satisfy the emptiness. So far this winter, I've bought: carb synchronizers (after endless questions here) risers and longer bolts all the hardware for the riser adapter doohickeys that hold the rubber fairing dampers in place a relay for my passing lights that I found wasn't installed a fuse block, since I'm getting too many wires coming off of the battery (Battery Tender, Stebel, passing lights, and I'm thinking about Gerbings gloves) vacuum brake bleeder (bought to synchronize the synchronizers, but will come in handy for brake bleeding, also) vacuum adapters and hose (also to synchronize the synchronizers) digital tach digital caliper (my analog caliper was fine until I saw the price of the digital unit on sale) 1" chrome 3-piece clamps and 1/8" x 1" aluminum stock for doing the crash bar reinforcement neck gaiter for colder weather bottom of a rollaway tool chest, to have near the bike when doing work 50mm bolts for the passing lights, to eliminate having them rest on the fender when splitting the fairing I've had the RSV on the Carbon One stand since around Thanksgiving. I think I need to take it down and go out for a ride the next time the sun comes out. I need a fix. This is nuts.

I was wondering around Wal-Mart today looking at clearance items. They had a Minnkota digital battery gauge for $9.00. It was designed to touch one probe to the hot and one to the ground to test a battery. I opened it up and soldered a red and a black wire into the right places, hooked it up to that worthless outlet under the seat and velcroed it to the tank bib. I now have a digital voltmeter with LED lights for $9.00. I had been wanting one so I could tell if I was overloading the system when I was using my electric vest and gloves with the passing lights but I didn't want to spend as much as a system like the Kuryakin costs. The Minnkota was built to monitor a trolling motor.

For those that don't know about this Uncle Sam is offering up to 2 coupons per household worth $40.00 each for the purchase of Digital to Analog TV signal converters. If they do stop transmiting analog TV signals next year and you don't have digital TV's you will need these converter box's to watch over the air TV. Even if you have cable they will come in handy for your analog TV's unless your cable company is going to provide a converter box for all of your tv's FREE OF CHARGE and what do you think the chances of that happening is? https://www.dtv2009.gov/

I will finally be able to share some hopefully great pics of our Ventures... we ordered this camera a few days ago and hope to have it in my hands any day now.. we bought a Canon PowerShot S5 IS / 8 megaPixel / 12x Optical zoom / 4x Digital zoom. I may have have to get a degree to use it, but it should do the trick.... We go to alot of Rallys here in Texas and have missed alot of good shots with the junky HP camera that we had, so time will tell.. does any one have one of these that can tell me anything about it???
