Is this oil ok to use in an '06 RSTD? I changed my oil using this oil and the bike seems to run just fine; however, a buddy of mine has got me paranoid telling me that diesel oils can cause damage becuase of the higher detergent components. Seems like a bunch of hooey to me but I thought I would ask.

I was just in Pep Boys here in central Jersey today and besides the usual Rotella 15-40 diesel (which I run in my RSV), they now have two different Castrol 15-40s (both for diesels) and for the first time I saw the Mobil Delvac 15-40 as well. A veritable potpourri of oils to choose from if you like running diesel oil, which I do. Anyone know if there are any significant differences among them or are they all basically the same?

Just tossing around an idea of upgrading to a 3/4 ton truck. I'm going to need one next spring for sure. I stopped at a Ford dealer and drove a F-250 with the 6.2 v8 gasser in it. Seemed like a good package for what little I drove it. I need the suspension etc. but I dont want a diesel. Wont use it enough as a workhorse to want to go full time diesel. I thought about the mileage issues etc. with gas vs. diesel. But adding a reliable 2nd pickup is another expense of licensing and insurance. Not to mention the cost of buying a good used 3/4 ton, would probly make it worth just buying a new 3/4 ton and having one good truck. So I guess I'm asking if anybody has any experience with the 6.2. My other option is going with a Dodge, havent ruled that out either.

Just a heads up for anyone with a diesel engine... It seems what the gov. did to our gasoline, they are doing to our diesel fuel. My injector pump on the 230 Massey freguson started leaking. I took it off and went to Mountaineer Diesel in St Albans WV. Can you guess what was the first words out of his mouth were? You got it... they are putting things in the fuel that are literally eating the inside of the diesel pumps out.... same as what ethanol is doing to all of our carbs... Who is making these decisions anyway? Going to cost me +600 for a rebuild and I'm seeing RED!

Ok it is time for an oil change. This will be the first one since I bought my 2000MM RSV. I went to wally world and picked up some Rotella 15w40 which is an oil many members use on the RSV's. I also picked up a couple of Super Teck 7317 filters. The oil cost $11 for 1 gal. While I was looking at the different motor oils I noticed a Motorcraft 15w40 Heavey Weight Diesel Motor Oil. The Motorcraft wa $11.50 for 5 quarts which is a little cheaper. Has anyone used the Motorcrft Diesel Motor Oil and if you did how did you like it?

There has to be an award for this goof!!!! I decided to go for a ride today and needed to fuel up about 50km's or so from home. When I stopped at the pump a guy started chatting to me so not really paying attention I filled my tank with Diesel fuel! When I went inside one of the young girls said to me "does your bike take diesel" I hadn't noticed the 3/4" Diesel letters on the pump or Diesel written on the nozzle cover with a black pen!! I owned a diesel Jetta a few years ago and always looked for the green nozzle and clearly marked separate pump. This one had regular gas on one side and diesel on the other. So need less to say panic set in.... I pushed it to the side and and got my hands on a gas can and drained it all out....took off the tank and got every last drop out. So if anyone is curious it took 21.475 liters (5.67 gallons) with the tank completely drained. One good thing.....I installed a Talon alarm last week and wasn't in the mood to remove the tank to run the wire for the indicator light.....that job is done now!! Just call me Dumba$$ Keith

Good help is hard to find. I finally found a partner to help clean up the property. He will work all day and still beg for more. Rarely takes a sick day and works for a six pack of diesel. Pictures later.

I have a Reddy 115000 btu "jet" type heater. Instructions state you can run almost anything in it. Kerosene, diesel, heating oil, jet fuel, etc. I have run it on construction sites using "off-road" dyed diesel, and one winter used #2 dyed heating oil from an oil tank I removed during a change-out to gas fired boiler. When using these fuels, it stunk bad on start-up, but was fine once the cone started glowing red. In this extreme cold, my 1920 vintage home with no insulation that originally had a wood stove in each room, the heating system was no keeping up. When the house drooped below 55F, I decided to bring this unit in the house and run it 15/20 minutes every 4-6 hrs or so. So, I purchased 5 gal of clear K1 kerosene. While pumping, first I noticed is this cost $1.20 a gallon more than on-road diesel. Then I also noticed a fairly new sign that stated "NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE. MAY CONTAIN OVER 500 PPM SULPHER". Now, up to June 2007, dyed off-road diesel was limited to 3000 ppm sulpher (I think) and highway diesel was limited to 1500 ppm sulpher. My understanding of the main difference was K1 kerosene had much less sulpher, so it did not stink when burned. SO NOW THE QUESTION!! Since current highway diesel is now limited to 15 ppm (yes, 15. No zeros) and even after paying highway taxes is $1.20gal less than the K1 which may have MORE than 500ppm, why should I not run the diesel? Or is it something other than the sulpher that is the problem. I know both my 2003 duramax and 1995 6.5 turbo have less (almost none) odor on the new-spec highway diesel! NOTE - DO NOT TRY DIESEL IN YOUR GRAVITY TYPE (WICKED) KEROSENE HEATER. I am talking about my forced-draft jet heater, which is designed to be tolerant of these different fuels.

OK, in reading another thread, I read that someone suggested using Rotella motor oil for diesel trucks in their VR. Is this a correct and proper thing to do?

Truckers strike starting today of independent operators. A few years back I almost bought a dodge cummins diesel pickup. I'm glad I didn't now the price of diesel is crazy.A man told me today the older models are not running well on the new low ash fuel. Good luck truckers and drive safe.Think I might top off my fuel tanks just in case the pumps go dry shortly.

I was looking through the 2008 Harley Roadking manual and they recommend (If Harley oil is unavailable of course ) Diesel motor oil. I just found this interesting.
