There have been so many good reports on the Deka ETX18L battery for my 88VR that I have searched for retailers here in Ontario with little success. One local supplier can get me one but at almost twice the US price. So, I just got off phone with Bohannon Battery Distributor in Florida who are willing to ship to me here in Ontario. Is there any reason why I should be leery of Bohannon or shipping a battery to Canada? Any advice appreciated!

Deka Battery at Oreilly Auto Parts
Hotrod posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had read a previous thread by flb78 where he had purchased a Deka ETX20L battery for our bikes at Oreilly Auto Parts under the Super Start house brand name.I have a 2007 RSV that was put into service in November of 2006 with the original Yuasa battery. It still started great and tested at 12.73 when checked with my volt meter, but going on 7 years old, I started getting worried about getting stuck in BFE and it not starting. Push starting a 1,000 lb. bike is not my idea of a good time.I stopped by my local Oreilly's to see if they had one in stock, and to make sure it was a Deka.I was talking to one of the guys at the counter and he told me they would match any competitor's price on a similar battery.Their list price was $101.I knew Walmart had an Everstart battery that listed for $81.88 and asked if they would match that price, and he said yes, they would call and verify the price.I got the battery with a 1 year warranty and with a core swap for $91.88.I hated to turn in a battery that still worked fine, but peace of mind is worth a lot sometimes.I thought I would pass this along to hopefully help some of our members save a little money,if in need of a battery, and thanks to flb78 for the initial info I used to save some money and buy a battery that I hope holds up as good or better than the original. -
Is this battery still the best choice? The connector looks like a side mount. My OEM is a top mount. I can get one locally from East Penn for $165cdn. I need to replace my battery and research on here seems to point to the Deka as the best choice, mind you most of the info is a few years old. Thanks.

Well here goes. I have been stranded several times in the past by batteries and don't necessarily mind buying a new one before it is needed. I bought my '09 RSTD in June of '10 and it came with a BikeMaster TruGel battery. I was looking to maybe get a Shorai, but they are so dang expensive. I ended up getting a YSS Shock and decided it would be a good time now to change the battery as the shock is easier to get to thru the battery compartment. I was going to get an Odyssey but I never did like how the posts are and it is usually a PITA to get the wires to be just right. I looked at some of the posts on this site and saw good info on the Deka, and considering the price ($90.95 to my door) decided to pull the trigger on an ETX20L from Bohannon Battery. I phoned them Wednesday and since they and I are both in Florida I got the battery on Thursday via USPS. The battery is very well packed with styrofoam: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7065/6885911518_6bd0bbb4ff_b.jpg The battery case on first inspection looks to be very well made and very sturdy: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7255/6885917970_5de955993c_b.jpg I like the posts; they look easier to deal with than the captured nut style on other brands and screw hole found on the Odyssey. I am not sure what the post material is, you will have to be careful not to strip them when they are tightened: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7240/7032017739_abe90d43ff_b.jpg The battery includes 2 bolts and copper washers. Deka has a very elagent solution to include the screws: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7253/7032016931_89f0fa3849_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7265/7032015837_b003a8c803_b.jpg Here is the Bike Master TruGel in my RSTD: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7075/7032018807_87a524119a_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7131/7032020597_9a5c264e65_b.jpg I never liked the case on the TruGel. It seems to be cheap and toy like and very plasticy, more plasticy than a plastic battery case should be like. Side by side I think the Deka has a much better, and more industrial construction feel to it: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7111/6885925022_f08531ea0c_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7121/7032023643_0f69efa292_b.jpg Alright, well let the flames begin. I took the battery and shock out last night. Going to put it all back together today. I will post a separate post on the shock.

When I took a ride the other evening, I accidentally left my running lights on and they are not wired thru the ignition switch on purpose. I have plugged up my battery charger that charges at 6 amps on the high setting and 2 amps on the low. I am currently on the high setting. Is it ok to charge a dead DEKA battery like this? RandyA

What the heck are these two little brass parts used for that came off the red cap on the Deka Battery All I used was the bolts like I always have in the past.

Deka gelcell delivered $99 I tried to start the Venture and nothing, not hardly a click. After a quick search I found that Skydoc 17 (Earl) sold batteries. All the reports said that the Deka was a good choice so I called and Earl had it in the mail on Monday. Wednesday it was in the bike and I was enjoying a short ride - would have been a longer ride if I didn't have this doggone flu. Thanks Earl

Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone on here has tried the MegaMax gel battery that is for sale on E Bay? It's advertised as direct fit for the first gen which sounds good but I'm just wondering if it's worth saving the $35 or so as compared to the Odyssey PC 680. Any insight you gentlemen have is greatly appreciated. I'm kind of a newbie to the first gen so go easy on me please. Thanks Big Mark

I am in the process of replacing my battery. I hooked up the Argus Battery Bug this past weekend and it indicated that my battery has 22% life left. The Bug's instructions say at the 10% warning alarm imminent failure at anytime, replace battery immediately. Anyway, I have been looking at the Deka ext20L. In the process I see the Big Crank ext20L appearing to be the same battery. Are the Deka and the Big Crank batteries made by the same manufacture in Pennsylvania?

Just got an e-mail from Joshua over at Bohannon Battery. They launched a new web site with all the info on the DEKA ETX18L AGM battery. Just about everything that you would want to know about it. http://www.etx18l.com/ Of course our member here Earl, aka Skydoc_17 is now carrying a line of DEKA's also but if you got questions before you buy.....this site should answer them.
