Hey Guys, This is just a learning exercise today. I've been searching for specific info on the timing of the 1st Gen, particulary the 84 since that's what I've got. If I understand correctly, our V4 is an odd fire engine, meaning that the cylinders are not evenly spaced 180 deg apart like the typical inline 4. However, when looking at the pickup coils on the inside of the left cover (see the pic I found and re-attached) it appears that not only are the banks separated by a prescribed angle, but each cylinder within the bank appears to also be separted by a smaller angle. My search leads me to a 70 deg angle between banks, but what is the separation angle between cylinders on each bank? Why would the mfg have chosen that timing, and is there some benefit that escapes me? Thanks all!

Like many, I noticed my water temp gets very close to the redline before the fan kicks in. Once it does, it cools down nicely but I feel more comfortable with the fan coming on at a lower temperature. The thread for the switch is 16m x 1.5. Using that info, I did some searching. I found a good cheap alternative on ebay that switches on the fan significantly earlier than the stock one. The one I got was from a 1988 Chevy Sprint, part number Beck Arnley 201-1367. It is normally open. Opens @ 185 Deg. F; Closes @ 194 Deg. F Fits in with no problem and works like a charm. Fan comes on a lot more but the water temps don't get over half way up the temp gauge. It cost me 5 bucks plus shipping. Just cut off the connector and add a couple of flat, male connectors and they will fit right into the stock harness. Here's a pic; http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/m/mkooBtkIH-fJevn12Jx82sQ/140.jpg

Here's my new custom seat. The materials are easy to find and assembly is about 2-3 minutes. Just kidding, Had my seat Down to Rick getting the "Butt Butler" treatment and the weather here in SE Michigan was pretty darn good for early April (70-80 deg) I just couldn't let it set in the garage. Alittle hard on the tailbone but I got in about 70 mileshttp://venturerider.org/forum/picture.php?albumid=634&pictureid=3949

Last night I was at a meeting till 10:00pm. The meeting was held in a back room of a bar that is sometimes a "biker bar" Once I came out of the meeting and saw my poor old scoot, I was floored, it was vandalized. My nice burgundy venture was now covered with white stuff. I didn't even recognize it as mine at first. But since it was still 45 deg when I left the house, mine was the only bike there. All of the other wusses have already stored there bikes for the winter. Upon closer examination my poor old scoot was covered by about a 1/8 inch thick layer of................. ......................... frost. I had to bum an ice scraper to clear the windscreen to be able to drive home. It was Ma Nature that vandalized my ride. By the time I got home the temp had dropped to 31 degrees. I'm not sure what the wind chill is for 31 deg at 80-90 MPH. After the last couple of days I am convinced that Ma Nature is out to get me.

OK, took first ride today with the new jacket. 48 deg. when left, 51deg on return home. 2 hour ride. Jacket, with T-shirt, and one fairly heavy cotton shirt on under the jacket. Verdict is-- Stayed perfectly comfortable, not cold, not hot. I will estimate that if I replaced the cotton shirt, with a Wool shirt, the Jacket will be good down to about 40 deg. F. Below that, I would need the electric vest. So, I'm very happy with this jacket. Fit is a little tight, but thats what I like, I hate loose fitting clothing. The Armor installed in Elbows, shoulders, and back, Seems bulky when putting the jacket on, however once under way ( a little navy talk there ) I don't even notice it. Arm movement seems good. My chest measurement is 44 inches, I got the Medium size.(( 44 )) ( this per suggestion on the " NewEnough " website, where I ordered it from ) They stated that these jackets run a little on the large side. I would have to say this is the most comfortable I have been at 50 deg. with just one jacket on, over an average wgt cotton shirt. Also, the new Hot Grips, with 40 gram thinsulate gloves worked just fine at 50 deg. I tried them last week, same gloves at 33 deg. F. and I would say my hands were getting cold. However I'm not in habit of rideing in that cold temps, so won't worry about it. If your in a motorcycle supper store, and they have them, try one on.
