Just watched 5 car loads of Law enforcement folks hit my neighbors house!!!!:clap2: I've been working a long time on this. He is the only one left. There were about 4 junk trailers with dopers living in them. None now they all burnt. (I know nothing) One left in a house that deals in anything they can. I hope the law got something. If that place goes up for auction:whistling: I may have to build another garage!!

My nephew was given an early medical discharge from the Marines last week and has been stationed near Ft. Worth, TX. So rode here to my place in N. Georgia on his was to northern KY to visit his 2 kids (living with his Ex). He's got a beautiful, copper colored recent Vrod. Thats likely the Harley I would want. Rode some roads around the area Saturday, most of which were visited during the Vogel rally and wound up in Helen for supper. Sunday he wanted to ride the Dragon. We took the ride up US129 past Vogel and straight up 129 to Deals Gap, got there just before noon and had lunch. I turned him loose to ride the Dragon and on his way to Knoxville and north while I tried a new road. The Fontana Road is the 'other' road which runs north of US129 coming to a junction at Deals Gap. I haven't ridden it before. What a treat. Its NC28 and runs all the way to Franklin, a 2 hour ride of mostly narrow 2 lane twisty slow road. There were a couple spots where it was 4 lane or improved, but not too many miles of that. A lot of NC28 overlooks the Little Tennessee River. At Franklin there are lots of good riding roads to jump to, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Stay on NC28 to The Highlands and US64 east, north on 441 to Maggie Valley or Gatlinburg, or US64 back towards Murphy, NC.

Anyone have any dealings with Ben's Outlet? There may be some good deals, but I am not familiar with them. RandyA http://bensoutlet.com/products

I'm new to the world of Ventures and have not found any place to buy parts yet. I have been on XS1100 for years and have sources for many parts in need. I know I can go through most online bike suppliers and buy OEM parts but where do you find the good deals on your parts. Is there a prefered parts vendor that most of you use? I'm riding a 83 Venture Royale

Here is a video of Deals Gap that Killboy.com did. It is the best one of te Gap I have seen. Take it full screen. [ame=http://vimeo.com/7862372]Following my BFF through the Dragon on Vimeo[/ame]

My grandson picked up a Kawi 1980 kd80 non-runer. Kinda proud of him as it now screams like a banchee. The question I have is.... it's a 2-cycle with an oil reserve crankcase like a 4-cycle... does it need a gas/oil mix, or use straight gas?? All my experience with 2-cycles deals with a mix engine...

I work as a pinstriper and patch sewer at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, Deals Gap, NC, on the corner of 129 and 28. The Dragon is open the 11 miles, 318 curves in TN - to all who may want to come and ride. You just have to turn around at the bottom (big parking lot before Foothills Parkway turn off) and ride back, since there's still a huge fence blocking the road that goes all the way into Maryville, TN. We're hoping it's open all the way before Aug. 1, so we don't all starve here. We have HP coverage, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and emergency vehicles on the spot, in case...well, you know... So tell your friends. Come visit...and say hello.

Well hello all! I just want to start a thread regarding a trip that Dragerman, Rob and myself are planning, it is just in the initial stages of planning right now. We are headed to Deals Gap on Sept 21. Any and all members in the area, or on the way would be more than welcome to join us. This is a Monday to Friday. I think we want to avoid the weekend. And we are also planning on riding the Blue Ridge on the way back to Ontario. I have talked to a few people, and everyone has suggestions and routes, things to see and do. So here is the place to put them. I think all who are thinking of going, should meet up at some point to discuss the details. The trip will be informal, and unrushed. So, who's in? I know I talked to a few about it at Carls weeks back, so get on board, and let's get this show on the road! Literally!

Gander Mountain here in Richmond has one of those fleece 4 way balaclava type hoods on sale for $8 (regularly $20). They also have fleece long johns, tops and bottoms, for $10 a piece. 5 below - here in Richmond has some of those small collapsible stools that fit in our saddlebags for $5. Nice little lightweight stool for cheap. Don't know if these deals are available in your area, but if they are you might be able to catch a bargain.

If you all will indulge me for a moment, I’d like to relate the latest entry in the Autopilot’s journal. Spent a few days in the mountains with my wife, celebrating 40 years together. Hard to imagine, sometimes. We did more stuff right by accident, than most do on purpose. Praise the Lord for that, ‘cause I sure didn’t have anything to do with it! Well, moving right along…I will likely draw some barbs for this but we were in the vicinity of Deals Gap and didn’t take the bikes on this trip. Given the road and driveway going to the cabin, it’s probably just as well that I didn’t bring them. I’m not sure I could have gotten the truck & trailer to the cabin from the road. Even if I could have, I’m not at all sure I could have negotiated that rutted up, washed out, rock, mud & gravel imitation of a driveway with either of the bikes. One side was literally 500-800 feet down the side of the mountain, if I dumped the bike, we both would be toast. It would be a month before anyone could find us, assuming they even knew where to look. I had nothing to do with renting the place and these little tidbits of information had not been clearly disclosed prior to our arrival. Needless to say, if I had arrived with my full-sized pickup with motorcycle trailer in tow, I would have been one un-happy camper. Now, the major secondary roads (129, 143, 28, 19, 74) in & around Robbinsville, NC, on the other hand, were phenomenal and I most definitely plan to go back with the bike(s) for them. I won’t be staying at this particular place though, you can be sure. Heck, I had to do a 3 point turn with my wife’s Ford Escape, as small as IT is, to get in or out of the driveway in one direction. Couldn’t do the Tail of the Dragon the day we drove over there. It was closed most of the day due to a fatal trike crash. 67 year old guy from Arkansas died when he drove off the mountain around mile 4. I was told that someone was taking pictures and he turned and waved to them. In just that bit of time he lost his bearings, lost control and that was it. The Dragon had claimed yet another. Prayers up, for the family. On a brighter note, I saw a couple of 2nd gen. Ventures up that way. One was a silver over (bronze?) They were 2 up on the Cherohala Skyway, headed toward Robbinsville. (I vaguely remember someone in the forum talking about going up there and having a bike that color, but I couldn’t find the post when I got back) The other was a blue over black….can’t remember exactly where I saw that one. (Think it was on 129 going to Deals Gap) I thought I saw a silver Venture, but I just had a glimpse and can’t be sure. Up there, even cagers have to pay attention to driving! These sightings would have been in the 6/21-6/24 time frame. The downside is that I ONLY saw those couple of Ventures. I’ve never seen so many Harleys in my life. They were everywhere! I was relaxing on a bench in Bryson city after lunch one afternoon, while the wife did a little shopping and spoke with 3 couples on H-Ds from Michigan. (Harley has a gorgeous black cherry color) So, that was our little mini vacation and 40th Anniversary, at least those are the main points . Not much to mark forty years, as celebrations go, but the fact that we made it this long seems to be an accomplishment, these days! One thing for sure....Me and a bike will be back! Ain't love grand?
