Yea I know over rated, to busy etc. I have done it once entering from the north up by the Fontana Dam I think it is. In October the wife and I have a trip planned to Franklin Nc for a week. I was thinking about mostly shorter day trip maybe 2hr to somewhere shop etc then maybe an hour over to some other littel town and hour or so there working our way back. I was thinking of up 28 across the Cherola to Teleco up to the Dam area and then down the Dragon. If your riding the Dragon do you prefer making the trip from the north side or the south?

...was finding out that all retailers in Western NY and SW Ontario are no longer carrying replacement soap and filters for the Mr. Clean Autodry car wash system...and I know this because it seemed like I personally checked out all of the retailers myself...whew. Apparently, I had enough stock on hand not to realize that the product was discontinued last year sometime. Dam, I hate it when a good product is discontinued...(can anyone say, yeah me too, like the 1st gen Venture was too?). Sooo what are all you users going to do? Are there retailers I don't know about? Yeah, yeah, I know about Amazon and eBay....groan.

The previous owner removed the cowling/vents that are in front of the driver's legs.. he said they are something to heat up the user's legs. They were included with the purchase, just not attached, the bike is also missing the front lower air dam. I have never driven another 1st gen other than this one I got off ebay less than 1 month ago.. No owner's manual either. What is the purpose of these vents.. I'm wondering if these are used to cool off your legs? I could get an air dam off ebay,... they're a bit pricey , but there are a few on there.... just not sure if I'm missing something I don't have or better off without it. I live in South Bama temps are peaking at 90+ now, the heat off this beast is a bit much on the legs right now, but maybe I'm just a light-weight.

Not a favorite, just a road report. Ride: July 2009, Friday, PM Gas Available: Accross from the casino soon after picking up US 93 south. Direction: South Avg Speed: 75 Flora: Low desert Fauna Encounters: Bat(?) and knee meet. Knee 1, bat 0. Subjective Temp: Balmy. [i live in Phoenix, AZ] Road Condition: Very nice. Once out of the mountains, arrow straight. Well marked. Got to the dam around 9'ish. Went right on through. No backups, but steady traffic in both directions. After the dam, first 15 miles are under construction with no passing and a 55 limit. No dirt. Smokeys Seen: 0 Cars Passing Same Direction: 2 Cars Passed Same Direction: maybe a couple, but I think 0 Cars Passed Opposite Direction: trickle I lucked out on this road after crossing the dam. Once on my way, I was second in line behind a truck that was doing 35 mph going up the hills. After about 10 miles in the construction zone, I had to pass him. So the cars behind him were held in check and I had the road to pretty much to myself. Thankfully, none of the headlights behind me was a smokey. Would have been very costly had one been behind me that wanted to pursue. BTW, My brother-in-law did the dam in the early afternoon in a truck with a one hour wait.

Not a favorite, just a road report. On the map, this is the road from Overton to the dam that is nearest the lake. Ride: July 2009, Friday, PM Gas Available: Accross from the casino soon after picking up US 93 south Direction: West Avg Speed: 55 Flora: Low desert Fauna Encounters: 0 Subjective Temp: Warm. [i live in Phoenix, AZ] Road Condition: Poor, Fair, then Good with intermitent sweepers and a few tighter corners. Top one third, out of Overton, there are three places down to dirt. Each one maybe 1/2 mile long on average. Next one third, the road becomes fair with older center reflectors. About two thirds of the way to the dam, the road becomes good with new center reflectors all the way. Good signage for direction to the dam. Got to the dam around 9'ish. Went right on through. No backups, but steady traffic in both directions. Smokeys Seen: 0 Cars Passing Same Direction: 2 Cars Passed Same Direction: 0 Cars Passed Opposite Direction: few BTW, Overton is a hole. Move on. Present residents excepted, of course.

After a search by home land security we were allowed to go across hoover dam. It was a sight to see with lots of traffic both vehicle and foot. They are building a bypass road and bridge that will cross the canyon about 500 yards from the dam. The two sides of the bridge arch support are up and most of the road on both sides are done

I'm starting to plan a trip out west for hopefully next spring or fall. I live in N.C. and want to spend about two weeks in the Las Vegas area. I'm planning on hauling my '93 VR and 2 Shadows. I thought maybe shipping the bikes and flying out, or maybe a train could take us and the bikes. Just started looking and wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with doing this. I may just drive and haul them myself. Anyone done this lately? Also anyone who lives or has been out there and could give me suggestions? I know of course we want to do the Grand Canyon and Hoover dam. How far is Yellow Stone? We don't have to stay in Vegas. We want to travel around out there and see the sites. My daughter went with a friend when she was 10 ann says we have to see the pink sand. Anyway, anything anyone can tell me wll be more than I know now.

So, I get a new pair of Avons Venoms put on. Love 'em, feel great all the way home from the shop. I decide I might as well clean the beast, so I get out the Mr. Clean Car Wash and scrub it down. (By the way, don't y'all just love that Mr. Clean?) I am admiring the new rubber when whats this? a dam defect in the tires? Looks like a tiny slice in the edge .... WTF.... I'm pissed... store is closed... I'm ranting and raving... when I look closer,................ its the dam SNAKE HEAD trademark molded into the tire ...... HAD TO LAUGH!!!

If anyone is crossing WashingtonState on I-90, a good side trip is from Moses Lake, Wa. ( about mid way between Spokan and Seattle ) take a side trip north to Grand Coulee Dam. The Dam is a great destination if you have never seen it. Also, the road runs thru whats called the " Dry River Valley. " Check this link: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&=Dry+Falls The Geological formations here are really Fantastic scenery This valley was formed by a Massive Floods, about 10 to 15,000 years ago. There is No River flowing thru it now. Or, from Spokan, take Hwy 2 too Grand Coulee Dam, then south on 155 to Coulee City heading badk to I-90. Also, if you are in Seattle, and want to take the Long, Slow Sceinic Route to Calif. ( Assumeing you are not in a hurry ) From Port Angeles Wa. on the Northern Coast, take U.S 101, west to Forks Wa. then follow the Coast Route U.S. 101 all the way to San Franscisco. ( If you are an Aviation Buff! be sure to visit the Old Naval Air Station at Tillimook Oregon (Aviation Museum ) and a side trip to McMinville Or. to see the Spruce Goose if you have never seen it ) This drive would take about 3 days, to a week depending on how many stops you want to make. Be Carefull!! you will see lots of Deer !!
