Some of you who have been around since the early days will remember Dan Lowery. Dan was one of the original officers when I started the "Venturers" site. I honestly don't remember if he ever joined this site or not but he and I did remain friends over the years. We rode together a couple of times when I lived in Dallas. I got word today that Dan passed away on January 9th which also happened to be his birthday. Dan was a good man and will be missed by those who knew him. Please say a prayer for his family and friends.

They announced that he died this evening (Friday). After watching him on Dallas, never could watch I Dream of Jeannie again, kept waiting for him to stab someone in the back on Jeannie. But will miss him on Dallas (TNT), first season, he was his nasty old self.

I can get Avon Venoms for about $160 front and back on amazon. Wondering if there is a brick and mortar store that will match these prices? I'm in Dallas.

As some of you know, I haven't posted as much over the last few weeks as I normally do. There is just way too much going on right now and it just seems that there are not enough hours in the day. Hopefully things will get back to normal in the near future but until then, I apologize that I'm not doing more here. As those of you who attended the Cody rally know, Eileen and I ended up cancelling the trip. We were really looking forward to it because due to my own illness over the past 3 years and other family illnesses before then, we have not done a decent bike ride in several years. I sometimes feel that we should just give up and sell the bike. I'm NOT going to do that though and will just hope that next year is finally back to normal. Whatever normal is now. Some of you know that Eileen lost her mother and her sister to cancer over the past 5 years. She took care of both of them during their illness and in fact we had built the little guest house so that her sister could live out here beside us and Eileen could take care of her and spend time with her while allowing Connie to retain some of her independence. It was a very difficult time for Eileen but she did well and it was something that she had to do. Almost immediately after Connie passed away, we found that Eileen's mother also had cancer. It wasn't as emotionally draining but still bad and then she passed away about a year later. Then of course I had my own ordeal wth the nasty disease that the intitial treatments and then complications last summer pretty much took away two more years of any real riding. We though that this summer would be ours again. It was not to be though. We find out a while back that Eileen's sister in law, her brothers wife that lives in Dallas, has cancer. This is the only adult member left in Eileen's family and Dolores is more like a sister than a sister-in-law to her. She has spent the past months going through all the usual treatments and then various clinical trials but basically, nothing worked. Eileen ended up going to Dallas during the time that we were scheduled to be in Cody so we had to cancel that trip. Then we had planned to go to Vogel or Big Tom's WNY rally this weekend but that's not happening either. Dolores has made a turn for the worse and they have basically given up on any treatments. She was in the hospital last week while they tried to stabilize her and basically just make her more comfortable. She is back home now and it is just a matter of time. Probably only a few days. It's really sad because this lady is only about 48 years old and has always been very health conscious. So, Eileen is flying to Dallas again tomorrow in order to be there to help her as much as she can and basically just spend a few final days with her. It is going to be a very difficult time for Eileen as well as her brother in Dallas and their two sons. The sons are older now, 19 and 22 I think but still taking it very hard. There is nothing that anybody can do but I simply ask that you keep Eileen in your thoughts and prayers and that Dolores will find some comfort and peace in her final days. Again, I apologize that we have been MIA from all the regular events this summer but hopefully things will be better next year.

Hello boys and girls! I'm in Dallas, and it's time for my 17k mile service. I got an outrageous quote from the dealer that I can't afford, so I thought I'd ask for some help here. Wondered if anyone was local-ish, and wanted to come show me / help me with my service. I do not know much about working on my RSTD, but I need to start learning. I can provide food, drinks, cigars (if you're so inclined) tools.. etc etc, but I just need someone to show me the ropes. I'm in South Arlington. Please feel free to PM me, or reply here if anyone is interested. I'm free most weekends. AJ

Of course not, but one would have to wonder why they are playing on Jesus birthday... I really feel for people that "have" to work on this day, and I, refuse to leave my home and cause someone to have to work on this day to provide me a service. Therefore, after much thought, I wish the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys end up in a tied game... Probably won't happen though as the cardinals are leading 14-0 at the end of the first quarter... but wouldn't that be something?

A seven year old boy was at the center of a Dallas County courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to the highest degree reasonably possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with the child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Dallas Cowboys professional football team, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

Picked up a 1999 RSV about a month ago and have been slowly learning about it. I am considering either the Stage 1 Exhaust Mod or the Bub Sleepers and was wondering if anyone in the Dallas area has either that I could hear first hand. Also, it would be nice to meet other RSV owners in the area.

How about taking the high road in this contest; Have to take it a little bit easy Ken8143. I mean, how unfair is it to have a full blown battle of wits with those who are unarmed and defenseless? Kinda like those two people from Elizabethtown,Pa who walked into a bar. You'd think one of them would have seen it. I hear this really happened in Elizabethtown PA; Ken8431 was out for a walk and comes to a river. He sees Dallas on the opposite bank. "Hey buddy!" he shouts, "How can I get to the other side?" Dallas looks up the river then down the river and shouts back, "You ARE on the other side.":rotfl:

I know this is short notice, but the little lady and I are leaving Dallas for a place just south of Branson, Mo. tomorrow (Friday) morning. We are vacationing for the next week and wondered if anyone local to that area would like to get together. We will be in Ridgedale Friday thru Thursday then heading to E.S. to hook up with the gang there. Weather looks like it is clearing up there, so some good riding and eating may come into play.

I just finished having my master cylinders rebuilt, new clutch discs installed, new brake pads, new valve cover gaskets, and the carburators inspected on my 86 VR. Also, I had the carburators synchronized. At cruising speed, the bike seems to run just fine. However, the bike does not idle down properly when stopped. As I am down-shifting, you can tell the bike is not idling down as it should. When I am in first gear and stopped, it wants to idle at approximately 3500 rpms. "Way to fast". I think it is supposed to idle between 950 and 1050 rpms. The guy that performed the repairs indicated he checked the throttle cable adjustment, thinking that might be the problem. However, it was fine. Now, after hauling the bike back to Dallas (approximately 120 miles) and reviewing the VentureRider website, I now see the Yamaha Service Manual is incorrect when describing the procedure for "carburetor synchronization" based on the correct use of different adjustment screws. If the carburetor synchronization was performed as indicated in the Yamaha Service Manual, would this create the excessive idling problem I am experiencing? Also, those living in the Dallas area, do you know of any good Motorcycle Shops (independents, etc....) that would perform another carbuertor synchronization if this was the problem. Yamaha Shops that I have spoken with in the past will not work on my bike due to its age. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Allen S. Dallas, Texas

Just a thought, but my band is playing in Dallas this Saturday night (2/9) at the Skillman Street Pub from 9-1. Just thought it may be an opportunity for some of our members to meet. It is just north of 635 (LBJ) on Skillman. Address is 9220 Skillman. I would like to meet some of you folks from the D/FW area.

I may be in the market for an enclosed trailer large enough for the 2000 RSV. It will be mainly used for my band's equipment, since Ventures do not require trailers like some OTHER bikes. However, we could use it in case of long vacations that don't allow the extra time for the entire journey to be taken by bike. Anything out there? I am in Dallas.
