I just bought a 1996 Royal star classic, only issue is a popping noise only on the Right Aft cyl or #3 Happens shortly after engine starts to warm up 2min popps at all ranges of rpm but it does NOT back fire (loud bang) Where should I start looking first - vaccum - carb sync ? Thanks Pete ptynning@msn.com

I"m doing the clutch slave cyl and figured I'd tackle the gear indicator issue while I was in there. Mine reads 4th gear for everything except 5th That part was not really planned cause I didn't even realize the switch was in there!! Anyway, I did the testing as per the manual and I guess the switch is bad. Any body got a GOOD shift indicator switch they want to part with? How much is a new one here in Canada? I really dont' want to try building up the contacts with solder like I read in one thread...I"d rather just change the switch. If I go ahead and do the slave cyl. and put the cover back on....do I have to order another gasket and crush washer to do the switch later or can I just re-use the "new" ones I would have just put in?

Yesterday I got ambitous after I got home from work, and went to working on the Venture out in the shop. I have ow got all the engine covers in place, shift linkage installed, carbs mounted and hooked up to the cables. One question, I am getting rid of the Yics chamber. I didnt have any vacum caps to put on the tubes coming out of the engine. I just the rubber hoses down and used them to cap of the tubes by connecting them to the one next to it. I read a post here somewhere where someone else did the same thing, my question is should the be connected to the cyl beside it or the opposing cyl. or does it really matter. Also I cant find the wire leads where the neutral swithch and the oil pressure/level wire plugs in to the system, where can I find the leads that they plug into..................I have looked and looked but cant find them and dont remember where they should be.:confused24:

I swapped wires on the coil and still had a dead left cyl. Does anyone have any pointers on how to drop the rear cyl. coil packs so I can check the wiring. Is there a test that will tell if the ignitor is toast?

Hi all, my question is why would my #1 cyl run cooler than the rest of the other cylinders? Had the carbs sycn., with the engine warmed up cyl #2,3,&4 runs about 185 to 200 degrees while #1 runs about 170. It idles ok, runs revs up ok. I have not done anything to the carbs. The cyl takes longer to warm up than the others. I have put new plugs and caps & sycn the carbs. Any suggestions or leave it be.

83 venture, long time in rebuild, 84 miles on new plugs, 29mpg , feels like slight miss at idle, runs fine otherwise. Run 1/2 can seafoam/full tank in this 84 miles. Refilled 2.9 gallons and add second 1/2 seafoam, but have not run anymore yet pics of plugs cyl #1 nice tan, came out slightly wet cyl #2 hardly any coloring cyl #3 hardly any coloring, came out very wet cyl #4 vary carboned My read of plugs, please correct me if you believe otherwise #1 about ok #2 super rich, likely not firing much-likely flooded #4 too rich Due to my concern of flooding, I rechecked float levels-mark with blue tape, bike level on lift. All seem ok to me Due to #4 to rich pulled diaphram, pic of carbon on slider Closed #4 idle screw 1/4 turn, all were set at 2 turns out. At a loss what to check next, reading on needle shim mod, but if I am too rich, seems pulling slider needle out more would be going in wrong direction-is this correct? Have not rechecked other diaphrams, but there were no holes or other problems during assembly. It is possible during assembly, diaphrams were not seated in grove correctly. would leaking diaphram cause my symptoms?

Hi, I have had the front brake lever / master cyl assembly off my red bike to fit a new sight glass. The brake worked fine before this, so I know all is well except that I have let a bit of air in up top. After re assembly, I have air in the system and soft lever action but I know its all up top at the reservoir end. Whats the simplest way to re prime the master cylinder in this case? (Sorry for what might be a well addressed question, but I am under the gun a bit as my temporary permit for this bike expires after tomorrow and I have to get it to the inspection station before then or legally it becomes a paper weight. They seem to think front brakes are important.) Thanks, Brian H.

Hello, I've about had it.... Started out with clutch/ slave master cylinder and a stuck shifter problem... Clutch and shifting problem seem to be pretty much resolved, but in trying to finish up the job I'm having a terrible time with the bleeding. I've reverse bled the clutch about 5 times.Tried it the standard way several times, also left the clutch lever tied down overnight... What happens is I bleed the air out, pump the clutch handle about 3-5 times and by then the pressure is so hard I can only move the lever about 1/2 inch. Rebleed and same thing......over and over and over...:bang head: I've taken the master cyl. apart and put it back together twice...Followed the diagram exactly..same thing...Slave is new and work fine..... Push rod from slave works fine, clutch is good.....I've run a very fine wire throught the pinhole in the master cyl.... What the heck is the problem here??? I need some new answers or suggestions... I'm all out of ideas??? Clay

Looks pretty good and if that is the true mileage it ould be a heck of a deal. Clutch problem could be the master cyl or slave cyl. Only a short time left... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-1984-Yamaha-Venture-NO-RESERVE-03-136_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6718QQihZ013QQitemZ230238626987QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
